GC: DriveClub gameplay

Nothing from the videos shown so far is indicative of the reveal trailer.
Single car on a track? come on. I know its a different game mode but this was just a bad decision for a show floor outing.
Coming from the devs that brought the fun of Motorstorm I can't see what the point of this game is.

I like how the wheel doesn't just clip through the grass, very nice detail. I still don't get why direct footage has yet to be put up. At this point I'd say the new Forza still has the upper hand.

I'm glad some of you guys are impressed by this. I keep trying to be, and it never hits me. It just looks like any other bland car game. The environments still have flat branches for trees and ground textures that look like they need some TLC. It doesn't scream next gen to me; the cars are well modelled, but we already have that on PS360 - in fact, going by these off-screen videos, if you told me this was GT6 I would absolutely believe you.

And I haven't heard them say anything about any gameplay hooks; in fact, everything they've said in presentations and their literature has had me convinced this was a hardcore sim racer, until I saw GAFfers talking about this being an arcade racer?

I dunno, I'll be getting PS+ so I'll check it out first hand, but this looks like it's setting up to be your prototypical gap-filling forgotten launch title.

looks quite good, but i question why we still havent seen any tracks with the huge vistas this is what this game is supposed to be all about.

Here is where too much developer freedom can become a problem, who really asked for this game?

Eight years later this is what I wanted

Can someone please show me examples of this terrible aliasing that I'm somehow not seeing?

I hope you guys don't mean dynamic shadowing resolution while comparing it to games with a prebaked solution...

flat branches? It has the densest forest/trees that I've ever seen in a racing game, right at the beginning of the video. And the textures look pretty great too. Agree the car (singular) doesn't look amazing but perhaps they haven't focused on that just yet?

Not sure yet on the gameplay - I hope it isn't mostly time attack with targets to beat along the way. That looks fun but could get old really quickly. But I'll give evo the benefit of the doubt on that one - they did a good job with async multiplayer on Motorstorm RC. and for demos at shows they'll want something simple and immediate for a quick 2 minute demo for consumers.

Looks cool, wish they'd just release a direct feed gameplay vid already though. None of the detail really comes through in an off screen vid.

This new track is much prettier than Scotland (no surprise lol), hope to see some PGR style city tracks next :)

That's exactly what I was referring to - watch that scroll by, the foliage all looks pretty flat, like I'm looking at geometry, not deciduous plant life.

I have to say, Evolution so far have really not helped sell their games appeal. Why release a demo with only one car on screen and no car audio? The vehicle sounds are one of the most important things. Whoever decides these things at Evo seriously needs to have a shake up and reconsider decisions.

It does look massively improved though. Graphically there's not much I'd pick at it beyond the odd bit of aliasing (expected) and unfinished frame rate.

I think we can safely put the "it looks like PS3" game behind, after this footage. This could easily be the racing game with best looking environments.

And no, it's not not just "Better capture". Framerate is now pretty much rock solid, which wasn't the case before, there were reflections on windshield, which wasn't there before, shadows don't look like messy garbage anymore, and the textures look much higher res on the road and the surroundings.

They still need to do something about aliasing at the very least on the road lines, if not anything else. It looks like road lines are not part of the texture but rather some kind of overlay, and they get aliased more than the texture underneath them. The need to supersample just the lines, or something.

Windshield reflections have been there in the some of the earliest pictures they released.

To me, on a technical level, it looks about the same, the difference is that the scenery is prettier on this track.

Are you expecting individually modeled leafs or something? How is this not impressive for a racing game?

And the sheer variety of trees there is too.

Some Forza 5 for comparison:

And PCARS

The hate for this game is just... lol

I really don't think it's fair to judge considering we are 3 months away from release. E3 was 35%, this is more like 65%.

Evo are probably at 90-95% in-house.

I like how the steering wheel has 360 degree turn.

Glad someone mentioned it!

I hate how in most console racing games the steering wheel barely moves and does so a second late. In Forza 3 drifting in cockpit felt weird because you'd start moving the in one direction while the steering wheel pointed the other so it felt like the car was being pushed.

Just came home from the press day at GC. Game looked better than Froza imo, thanks to the gorgeous lighting. The framerate didn't bother me, but some slowdonws were annoying.

For now i'm really looking forward to this one, even though it's worrying me that they only showed time trials so far.

I just hope they didn't overextend themselves with stuff like volumetric clouds and their lighting solution. It looks nice and natural but must be costing them so much while games like NFS: Rivals don't have to take the hit there. I gotta admit I wish they'd continued making atleast one more Motorstorm racer but I'll most likely still get this at launch. Where are all the PGR fans? They should be eating this up because it seems a lot like that!

Mapping 900 degree turn to the joystick movement would result in something much more annoying.

So this will be packed in as a starter version, right? Will this be a "social" racing game, as in "customize your own car, do your own paint jobs, check out friends' cars, meet up with them" and stuff like that, or will it be a standard multiplayer racing game?

If it's the first, I so want a APB style "design your own decals" mode :/

This looks great, and we're still a few months from launch. If this handles like PGR like some have said, I'm pretty excited to get the Plus version to try out, even tho I'm not a big racing fan.

It really is bizarre but then a lot of people for some reason got butt hurt over the fact that its runs in 30fps and not 60 and I don't even think that's been confirmed yet.

The game runs at 30 and they said they are trying to get to 60 but not making any promises. Since it's no longer a launch game, maybe they are going to be able to pull it off.

People are super vocal about hating this game for some reason though. I don't really understand. It's a new IP and Sony is giving out the trial version for free for everyone to play and get a real impression on. Wait and see before you hate!

Maybe I'm not as hardcore as I would like to believe. I've been playing games for 25+ years. I've played many modern PC games at 60 frames per second and many console games at 30 frames per second. I honestly cannot tell much of a difference. Especially when it comes to watching a video of gameplay.

Fun games are fun. The only time I don't have fun in a game is when there is a framerate that is not consistent and drops to 10 or 15 frames per second. That is when I notice and it starts to ruin the fun for me.

Driveclub looks good to me and even better since it's a PS+ download and upgrade situation. I'll absolutely download it and if I have fun with it 30 FPS or not I'll upgrade it. I know some of you can tell a discernible difference between 60 and 30 frames. I can't.

is the game not running on ps4s at gamescom? couldn't they just record directly on the ps4 and upload the video? i don't understand why it seems like they have to find a way to provide direct-feed video.

A driving game that at last pays as much to environmental detail and bringing life to the circuits. For so long we've been stuck with clinical tracks that are devoid of life.

I would like to see this track at night though.
