Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

I bought mutant blob space thingy and thought it was decent, but is it without getting about the blob for PS3? seems like more of the same without the bonus of putting it on my vita

Buy Marvel (duh!)
Mutant Blobs thingy

absolutely Spelunky next week

SFxT if you already have Marvel

I don't mind double dipping. Stuff I'm really excited about I'll get - FEZ, Hotline Miami, FTL and Rogue Legacy etc - but when Rogue Legacy comes to Vita you know I be all up in that!

Borderlands is one of those for me - I SHOULD like it - I like unusual and brave art styles, I "like" FPS games and I like RPGs. I find it intensely boring though - I think it could be a good fit for Vita and I really hope it does well for everyone involved.

Overall a good conference for me (across all platforms) no 'MEGATONZ' but a steady flow of interesting stuff. As for Vita? Everything I wanted yesterday was pretty much delivered - I never expected something to blow my mind - but I got:

Memory card price cut
Remote play demo
Football Manager
Rogue Legacy
Starbound (I think that was Vita as well?)
Minecraft

Brillz.

It was Shahid confirmed a Vita release on the Blog. Between Starbound, Terraria, Mincraft, BL 2, Rouge Legacy, Spelunky, Fez, and the Rainbow twins (Moon & Skies) I will have enough game content to last me a good long time. Vita had a great show imo, my only genuine gripe is now 64gb memory card.

I was more than pleased with the entire Vita showing yesterday.

I really don't see the need for a 64 gb card and I had to delete like 5 gigs from my 32 last night.

Of course I didn't want to do it, but it's not like I had been playing those games or thinking about doing so in the near future.

64 gb is needed

if i cant play any game i own at any time without having to do some kind of stupid cloud sync or local data transfer BACK to my memory card first, the system is garbage to me

almost daily i get random urges to play games.. some that i havent touched in ages. Like AC3 Liberation i finished the story mode then just last night i was like damn i gotta get more trophies in that game! and i fired it up and started playing again

if i had to connect my vita to my PC to restore the save i would have not bothered out of frustration

i need my library 100% available 100% of the time, because you never know when your gonna wanna play it

Killzone gets a $5 discount for the digital version here in Asia. ($34.99 vs $39.99)

Bodes well, sir. Bodes very well.

They don't play real sports on your side of the world.

The locals don't accept such low game score tallies. Dopamine and beer.

I might learn to like the game, but no promises. Speaking of which, any word on a New Star Soccer making a Vita appearance? Unless I've missed something.

Bought Guacamelee, Tales from Space, UMVC3, and Divekick yesterday for less than $30. Oh, and Darkstalkers for free as part of PSN+.

Jesus, those memory card price drops couldn't have come at a better time

it's not needed.

what happens when you fill up your 64 GB card? Releasing a 64 gb card doesn't alleviate these problems.

What about your steam account when your computer is full? You ultimately delete things from your hard drive, whatever the size of it is.

You don't NEED your library at 100% of the time. That's just you wanting you cake and eating it too.

If your reasoning behind thinking a system is "garbage" is actually what you've stated above, then by that rationale every console is "garbage".

Space fills up and you make room. I can understanding people wanting bigger memory cards but it's hardly a necessity.

I'm not sure you need to be a fan of FOOTBALL to like FM. It's a fantastic management sim in its own right - also has some of the most amazing fan stories you will ever read. EVEN better than EVE online.

Dunno if I need to go that deep down the rabbit hole! Perhaps this more, uh, streamlined version is the better option. Lord knows there's enough to play as is.

well i havent even filled my 32 card yet

so my hope is there is a 64 gb card by the time i do

and a 128 by the time my 64 is filled, etc

thats the natural progression, cards get bigger

obviously there will be limits out there, theres only so many games your gonna by over the course of a system

so im not expecting outlandish sizes like 2 terabytes

128 gigs is nothing

sd cards are available in that size all over the place

and your right i technically dont NEED it

just like i dont even need to keep old games once i beat them

but if its 11pm and im laying in bed and suddenly wanna shut off whatever im playing and pop in some Wipeout 2048 and get some SP races in, why the hell would i want to deal with a data restore of save files and installing the game again?

thats the whole point of a portable to me.. gaming on a whim

I'm well aware of the sizes of flash drives, SD cards, and the like. Everyone would rather have more choices than less and thus is life.

It's a convenience that is more important to some than others.

I would rather have too many games and not enough space than the other way around.

If you are gaming on a whim you should just plan your whims better or have some patience. Transferring saves to the cloud is not a long process.

You could also just purchase a second memory card.

Um wat is this nonsensical detritus?

"Have your cake and eat it too?" I've never read such ridiculous garbage in my life.

Vita's situation is unique in that:

1) its average game's file size is larger than what you'd find on competing systems where the card/HDD limits are similar (ex. iPhone, 3DS), so fewer games can fit on the same amount of space

2) as a corollary, larger file size means that re-downloading is a burden most of the time, especially given the ass-widening ISP bandwidth limits all throughout the world

3) the vast majority of Vita's upcoming library are digital-only releases, and even throwaway novelty games like Divekick are >1GB

I can name more reasons why what you said is hilariously misguided and should be ignored as such, but I have nary the time nor the will.

I thought the whole point of bolding one point in an argument was to refute that point.

but instead you decided to go off on a tangent. good job
I bolded your point that Vita owners who want a bigger memory card are entitled, and then offered three reasons why you are wrong.

Tell me where my tangent was again?

Tell me where my tangent was again?

You bolded
"You don't NEED your library at 100% of the time."
then explained how the vita situation is different than other consoles, but never refuted or discussed why you would need your library 100% of the time.

you then bolded

"I would rather have too many games and not enough space than the other way around.

If you are gaming on a whim you should just plan your whims better or have some patience. Transferring saves to the cloud is not a long process.

and then responded with laughs

i explained the want for a bigger card. my argument is that it's not a top priority.

It's silly to argue about. I can fill my 32gb with just repeatable games that I own. Don't try to discount how other people play games.

I really wasn't. I was merely saying it's manageable at it's current state. If the main focus for most people, especially those without a vita, is the price of cards and hardware then that should be their main focus. Introducing new SKUs just makes the cost of production higher.

Bringing the current prices down is way more important that introducing more cards at varying sizes

people need to stop stressing about the memory card situation. they discounted all of the cards to give room at the top for the 64gb. they are clearing out the 4gb stock at a lower price so that it can be discontinued. 64gb is coming.

what we need to bitch and whine for is 128gb memory sticks, since those are further away (or never coming).

Disagree.

People, like me, fill up their 32gb.
People, like me, have to juggle when they buy a new game (I just bought Muramasa; it's 450mb and I can't easily fit it. I have to wait until I finish P4G so I can claim 3.1gb back.)
People, like me, are more likely to buy the games they're thinking about if they can fit them on their memory card without juggling. I haven't bought Dragon's Crown yet simply because I don't have a 1gb to spare.
People, like me, get pissed off when they have to delete a game like SFxT as if we don't take the ridiculously slow backup method, we'll be downloading 180 different DLC items individually because the download list sucks.
People, like me, refuse to spend another $xxx.xx on a second 32gb memory card and juggle cards... I went full digital for the convenience... and when I had a ton of games I wasn't playing on my card, deleting things to make space (once I ran out) was easy. Now it's not. I delete everything I haven't been playing or have finished and won't be going back to any time soon immediately. And I have 480mb left and can't install the miniscule Muramasa.

So... while it's not necessary for you and people who think/feel the same as you, for people like me, we're going to be happy and more likely to purchase things if we have a larger memory card to use.
And the answer to the Steam question is "you install another hard drive." :P

i do the same things, but i would never buy a game i truly want from space constraints. i just have to prioritize.

if you install another hard drive, isn't that just like having another memory card?

i would think if size is your main reason for not buying a game then waiting isn't really an issue either.

just throwing it out there, dont let this beta turn you off ( if it does) to KZm... i find it lacks variety. only 1 MP mode and 1 map gets stale quick.

I was bored with it at first but after unlocking a bunch of equipment and figuring out how hacking works I've been playing it for hours. Can't wait for the full game.

Gonna have to agree with all of this, and then add a point to it:
4) the Memory Card size vs. price limit has a huge negative effect on total digital sales--I've seen and heard a number of people decline PSN purchases because their stock Memory Card is full and they refuse to pay SONY's disgusting prices for a larger one

A simple work-around to this whole issue already exists on Steam: the "Library" area. Every platform that deals with digital media NEEDS to offer a concise, snappy, easy to navigate library system that allows for one-touch re-downloads of their content.

Yes, the Vita has the "Download List", but because it only displays a few items at a time, is slow to load, and also includes PS3 content, it's not a streamlined process. I guarantee that people would be less likely to "hoard" their Vita content if they had access to a constant visual reminder of all the content they've purchased. Instead, people--much like myself--end up bitching about Memory Card capacities and the 100 icon limit.

I hope the Vita and its PSN Store will receive a UI update when the PS4 launches. It would be the perfect time to implement such a feature given the PS4's heavy focus on snappy multi-tasking and easy navigation.

Yes fuck that list. At least give the option to make add-ons and DLC excluded... navigating that list is a PITA.

It's not like Steam costs money, and it's library system is easy as pie to navigate, gives options to show installed vs all. It's not perfect (let me fucking erase something completely VALVE!!!)... but it makes the Vita system look like something from the early 90's.
