I've been holding off on buying Spelunky since it was released on XBLA.
Played the freeware game, and decided to wait for the inevitable Steam release. Then heard about the Vita release and decided to wait for that... hopefully there's not some other announcement between now and next week that makes me wait more.
i've tried holding off playing my steam copy but couldn't resist. I took a 4 day break from it but not it's a habitual.
my death in the alien ship was so tragic it's hard to put into words. i didn't know it was possible to lose 6 hearts from a shotgun in succession without a single shot being fired
stupid jump jet squares.
Flow chart of vita purchases

#3 Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3
#4 Spelunky
What this guy said. He's right on everything. The games are also really funny.
But might I add, if you're going to play the first game then avoid the Director's Cut. It shits a fair bit on the original version, so just play that instead. First two came out on the PS1, so if you're especially averse to PC gaming then that's always an option.
? Played through directors cut of 1 a couple years ago and never felt it did such a thing to my memories of the original. Looked and played great on iOS, solid voicework, helpful context icons to avoid constant scrubbing. What bothered you? I would argue the directors cut is the way to go myself. It has been almost 20 years since I played the dos version but nothing at all stood out as egregious or bothersome.
Stupid work. Why can't all the Gaffers just win the lottery, so we can peruse the internet, play games, and be on Gaf all day Work not only made me miss the Gamescom stream, but also all the excitement afterwards. Please forgive me, for I had 10 pages to catch up on. OH WAIT!!! I am now a member of the Elite Exclusive 100 PPP Club! Woo!
Now, where's the champagne flowing from Vita shaped bottles!?
With the store update, I got DiveKick and Dynasty Warriors Next. Allllso picked up Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus R, because, I am a Guilty Gear FANATIC. GGAC+R is siiiiick. Yea no online, oh well. Or no widescreen, I'll deal, as the HD ver for PS3 is 4:3 also. But being able to play the +R updates before all my friends? Priceless...I actually have both PSP GGAC+ and the Vita GGAC+R on my memory card at the moment. PSP version for practice on the road, as my area has a pretty strong GG scene (arguably some of the best in the USA, no foolies). The PSP version is good for that. But dat +R upgrade for the Vita...GLOB those visuals are crisp. Such a gorgeous game, plus all the +R add ons make it like a whole new game. +R marks my 6th portable GG purchase, 14th or 15th total.
DiveKick....is fun. Haven't done any online, but I can see how it would be a blast with real life competition. Didn't get through all of the "arcade" mode, because my download of DWN finished at the Badger.
Dynasty Warriors is a fun game, great for the price. It looks really crisp, and plays pretty well too. I would have liked more on screen chaos at a time, but what is there is pretty solid. Definitely worth the money. I haven't played a DW game since DW1 or 2 on PS2. Never really was my type of game, but Next has shown me things about it that I really enjoy. Might consider buying future installments, if my backlog allows it.
Oh, and I forgot to ask it before. How is Hot Shots / Everybody's Golf. It's not a genre that I love, but Amazon has and offer with a 16GB Card + DD Game for the same price, and I'm thinking on buying it. I have to say I don't have the money to buy a 32GB yet.
Mannnnnnnn. I just bought Divekick, downloaded it and it came to about 480 MB....but there's a Day One patch that adds ANOTHER 488MB. What the hell? This has to be a mistake, right?
So what's vitagafs consensus on the conference? 8/10 for me - lots of great games, price drop, awesome remote play. Memory cards still too small and expensive though
Solid 8 or 9 from me. I still haven't been able to even look in to the announced games beyond their actual names, but I am pleased with the list. never played a Borderlands game, it coming to Vita gives me mixed feelings right now. I guess it'll potentially be good for future titles.
Oh, and how's Dragon's Crown? And does it have cross save with PS3? And PS3 ports are also welcome suggestions, I'm more of a portable gamer than console, and I'll more than happily double dip on games I own
Cross save works very well, very easy. You choose one of 3 files to upload, then when you go to download the file, you choose what location you want it in. Easy, fast, painless. And it feels so great leveling up on the PS3, then transfarring to the Vita for all that item management on the go.
I didn't see anyone mention it, but I'll gladly take Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper before they stop Power Stone would be rad, but I think I'd be hoping it's the DC version the whole time and end up being disappointed
Getting Capcom games I don't even want makes me wish for Cannon Spike or a new one. Would be so good now since it predated the twin-stick shooter consensus.
I would LOVE another Cannon Spike. Plus having SF characters in a non SF setting would be could be great. Shmups & TwinSticks do seem to be much more popular these days than during the days of the Dreamcast, imo the KING of shmups.
I missed a quote somewhere, but to the Gaffer trying to decide on UMVC3 or Divekick....the answer is
Guilty Gear - if it's still on sale!
UMVC3. Hands down. UMVC3 and GG easily my fav fighting games, they are both fast paced, beautiful to look at, and tons o fun.
i was about to pull the trigger on DWnext but now that 8 is coming to vita ( a little unexpected imo) i think ill wait for that, as it might be closer to the main series than trying to reinvent for it for the vita as a stand alone game..
NLKS - screw framerate. its the price of my lunch - plenty of hours of strategy/action/sim enjoyment for that price
you can share herald colors, which is pretty sweet. i was close to getting all of them before i lost them...
...
but yea, in heroes and heralds mode (which not many play) the winning team (you pick hero or herald) for the week wins a color for a character that's random. each character has a gold and silver version (think of a character, then think what they would look like if they were T1000)
you can choose to share your colors via NEAR that others can download as well.
as for Spelunky, i didn't like it when I played it but watching MAN vs. Game on twitch.tv play it for an hour really interested me. The more I play it now, the more I like. I think I'd actually play it more if it were on Vita, so it's a no brainer
vita is 180 at futureshop right now, sold out online. i hope the lower price point helps with sales. i see all of the game/system bundles at 199 now too. not bad at all. it will be interesting to see if they bundle minecraft with it during the holidays. that will probably sell very well.

Forgive me if this has been answered or it's obvious and I've just missed it - Shahid's big game that we'll be playing for hours and hours was Rogue Legacy, correct?

True. Again, it's never been available on anything other than PC, AFAIK.
Sorta like when Minecraft when to XBLA, right? Could be huge, even though I couldn't give a flying fsck about it.

I hate Valentine's Day to begin with... but I really hate it in P4G... it makes me feel guilty and like a total asshole.
Oh, I thought it was a port of an existing PC game. I did some research just now and see that the PC game actually isn't out yet and that the Vita version is a more streamlined version (Classic mode only) instead of a straight port.
Walmart's bundle of 3G Vita + 4GB + 1yr Plus + Unit 13 = Pretty great. That's like a $130 Vita if you bought it separately.
Terraria is way different than Minecraft. Minecraft is open-ended and more about building, Terraria is about exploration and RPG elements (killing monsters for loot, crafting new gear). The similarity is the digging. Minecraft's kind of boring but Terraria is fantastic.
Wellllll, Terraria (console) has a more robust adventure mode than Minecraft (console), I've had a lot of fun with Terraria while Minecraft's never been able to get more than 30 minutes out of me. (Never bought it, but I have tried it.)
So does anyone think we'll be getting a redesigned Vita sometime sooner rather than later??
The Vita that was shown at the gamescom conference showed concave sticks instead of convex!! That's one of the biggest problems i have with my current vita, is that my thumbs will sometimes slip off in a frantic game.

Well, you can build whatever you want, but you don't really need to focus on it. Plus it's got an endgame... does Minecraft even have that sort of thing? Terraria is open-ended but there is an ultimate goal to work toward... bosses to kill, that sort of thing.
I pre-ordered it during E3 through Futureshop here in Canada, and according to their records it comes out sometime in the uncertain future (ie, not 2013). Sooooooo
Vita GAF: I'm about to ask you with help on my next game purchase. I'm looking at:
Spelunky
PixelJunk Monsters HD
Stealth Inc.
Velocity Ultra
Now, I already have the Velocity Mini and PixelJunk Monsters PSP on my Vita, otherwise I'd already have bought both... but I can imagine both of the Vita-native versions are substantially better than what I have on my 32 gig card already. Having just bought Need For Speed & DiveKick, and PS+ing Dokuro over, I've got plenty to keep me busy... but there are simply too many good games staring me in the face.

I don't like the way the Director's Cut futzed around with the structure of the story. The original has a hugely memorable opening and the most iconic opening dialogue I've heard in a game, yet the DC shits all over that by beginning with that unnecessary, newly added content and rewriting some of the script once you take control of George. That content where you play as Nico is utterly pointless and adds nothing to the game. There's also problems with the sound mix, in which some dialogue recorded specifically for the DC appears and sounds completely different in tone and volume compared to the original voicework. There's also less stuff in general to interact with, so the entire game is slightly watered down and streamlined to make it easier for the player to progress.
It's like when Lucas and Spielberg go poking around in their own material, changing things that don't need changing, just to suit their own personal interests. Don't screw around with a masterpiece!
7/10 - as an evil "i don't buy indie games for 10 bucks" monster not that much interesting stuff for me personally but at least stuff shown should move a few vitas
minecraft was fun for a little bit but terraria & starbound are the real solid titles imo. obviously i haven't played starbound, but having more direction & looty rpg elements is a big plus for me. make it portable and you've got a gem.

They're all good games, but Spelunky wins by a long shot. It's a great pick up and play game, challenging and very rewarding. Plus the random level generation keeps it being replayable pretty much endlessly.

Minecraft had become a lot more Terraria-like. With the advent of hunger both now require you to build and harvest crops, be they mushrooms or wheat or animals. Minecraft added two bosses, and randomly generated dungeon areas (nowhere near as crazy as Terraria's summoned boss fights and the main dungeon).
The upside is that Minecraft is still evolving and Terraria ended major development awhile ago.
