New 3DS System Update (StreetPass Relay Feature)

The Xenoblade panel is beytiful,
if you move the camera to the right you can see Shulk and Fiora

Just keep using HomePass and eventually you will complete the map, don't ruin the fun! :P

Just today I found my first French, crazy! (also, about 7/10 red Miis, lol you people almost made me lose the boss fight in the shooter mini-game)

I have 40/51 now. I'll never get Puerto Rico

I too have a similar absences of France. Blue typically tends to be my common colour but I've not had more than 5.

32 pink pieces to go until I have all the current ones (that are available to Europe).

It feels so wrong doing this, but I guess its the only way I can get more than 1 streepass a month.

If it feels wrong, just set yourself to the NeoGAF MAC and leave it there. That way you won't get *too* many, but it's like the benefit of walking past an active relay.

I can't believe all you cheaters!

I've been averaging 2-4 StreetPasses a day now. I think the relay feature has really helped. I'm in Boston though and walk about five miles a day. If you're in a smaller town or don't walk a lot then I can imagine the annoyance.

Some of those achievements with the street pass are ridiculous though. I think one is like meet 100 people in a day or something. That's crazy.

Should have gone to PAX East. I was easily doing 200-300 a day there, no relays necessary. Even if you don't even buy into the event itself, just standing outside the convention center would have been enough.

The only thing tempting me to fake a relay is if I can get a Japanese MAC so finishing that damn Chibi Robo puzzle is actually possible.

Do I need to create a mii-avatar, in order to use Streetpass? Owned the 3DS for 3 weeks, and no notifications of any kind.

Yes, having a Mii is required, do that in Mii Maker first. After that, launch Streetpass Mii Plaza and follow the prompts to set which Mii will be your public face, then visit the settings to make sure SpotPass is turned on, then use the update icon to get the newest data (you might need to let the 3DS sit in sleep mode for a bit while it has Wi-Fi access after turning on SpotPass for this option to show - also make sure you have the latest firmware installed).

Do you have a router able to do DD WRT?

I have a Netgear WGT624 v3, dunno if that would work. My laptop's wireless card is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 6150. It would be ok if my stuff just cant do it, over that it can and i just am doing something wrong to not have it work.

Hey guys, I've been trying to get in on this since I got home from a vacation. Having more than a few problems, though...

I set up the attwifi network and assign a new MAC to my Local area connection (4E:45:4F:47:41:46). The 3DS can connect no problem, the Nintendo Zone icon lights up and I can access the Internet via the browser...

But I'm not getting any StreetPasses. Not with any other MAC either. What's wrong?

Are you sure you're changing the wireless MAC? Detecting Nintendo Zone is based on SSID alone, it doesn't mean that you changed the MAC.

When you put it that way, no, I'm not sure at all. How do I make sure? I've been checking and changing in Control Panel>Network connections>Local area connection>Properties>Configure>Advanced>MAC Adress (not sure about the English names of these).

Well, that, and I've been using that MAC Cycle.exe from gbatemp. Doesn't really help.

Oh, and now I notice that my connection is going haywire. Sometimes the 3DS won't connect to attwifi, sometimes it will, and sometimes it connects, but not to the Internet.

Oh, and for some reason I can't get my 3DS to connect to attwifi anymore...

That's not the right place. All that does it change the MAC address of your wired network port leading to your router/cable modem/etc.

Is there a Linux/Ubuntu method for creating a relay hotspot without an ethernet connection? I did it in Windows, but I'd prefer if I could do it in Linux.

Good to know, I also have a Linksys Cisco WRT54G v.3, and I heard those can have issues, but do they work?

That one works. With it you'll be able to apply a cron job where you SP 24/7 every 2 minutes. DO IT and together we can complete all USA regions!!!!!!

I can walk you through the process if you'd like

I need the remaining following USA locations:

Montana
Wyoming
North Dakota
South Dakota
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Louisiana
West Virginia
Vermont
Puerto Rico

Anyone want to help me get this? Change your 3DS location to that region then we StreetPass and change it again

Lol, no Japanese MAC address necessary: the Japanese are hitting up the same standard MAC addresses as everyone else to try to tag people from outside Japan, and they have more 3DS systems than the rest of us, so you'll easily tag people from Japan. I've noticed especially the MAC addresses for those attwifi hotspots in New York are giving me more Japanese miis than American ones.

Command prompt (windows key, cmd) then type ipconfig /all. The MAC you need to change (and should be changing) is called Wireless network connection (or similar). The local area is probably wired (so does not need changing) and the 3DS connects to the wireless connection (and sends the SSID+MAC of that to Nintendo hence why the wireless needs changing)

Chibi Robo puzzle??
Puzzle swap panel. To promote the eShop Chibi Robo game. Since that is Japan only currently, the puzzle is also Japan only.

I SP with a lot of people from Japan but I've yet to see that puzzle
Are you using a Japanese 3DS? If not recent update removed the ability to see puzzles you lack spotpass data for (you would see the puzzle named ??? but instead of pieces is a message saying something like "no data available").

I hate you sir :(
I'm sooo far from even completing half of it :/
I won't use the relay cheat though. I like going back to check on my Streetpass connections when they happen.

It really doesn't feel like cheating at all. You still have no control over who you meet and what puzzle pieces they might have. You just up your streetpass rate without having to move to Japan or a major city.

I'm still getting streetpasses the normal way too. It's making these games more fun and more valuable. It's not like stat padding imho. When I get a 'real' streetpass, it's just as pleasant a feeling. I'm limiting myself to no more than 20 a day, and I'm not doing it every day either. I've probably averaged seven or eight a day since starting. I'm still getting in the region of 3 real street passes a day on average too, I'd guess. Mostly from my wife and my colleague at work that has one, but still the odd random one here and there.

I don't get it. I thought I was supposed to set up a spoof connection via the wired one? In that case, changing MAC of my wireless connection won't help, will it?

Now, I tried changing the MAC of my wireless, and it didn't help.

aww i can't seem to get any Streetpasses by spoofing
i'm using the OSX method on an old macbook and can connect the 3ds to Nintendo Zone fine, even browsed through it for the first time ever
no green blinking lights no matter what MAC i enter though :(

I really wish someone would take 30 minutes and help me complete all USA regions...I only have 10 left.

All you have to do is change your 3DS location in Settings, then SP with me. Change it again, SP once more, etc.

I have 10 left and would love for someone to help me. I will also help you complete all of yours as well.

OS X method is pretty straightforward. Are you sure you're doing it correctly? Also, again, seeing the Nintendo Zone blink doesn't mean that you're changing your MAC or that it'll work. It's SSID based so it'll blink whenever it sees "attwifi" even if it doesn't get internet access.

Also, check that you're changing your wireless MAC. Check which one is the correct one with ifconfig in Terminal. Maybe you're using en0 instead of en1 or en1 instead of en0...

And since some people didn't know I have to ask... are you closing your 3DS? It won't StreetPass if it's open and the Home menu is on.

Nintendo Zone blinks, i can tap on it & browse through
i have full internet access on the 3DS, browser etc
3DS closed & on home menu with all games closed
double checked everything on the guides, everything seems to be working just no SPs

Check the en1/en0 thing. I think the GBATemp tutorial uses en0 but my wireless connection is in en1.

This is what I used
sudo ifconfig en1 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

To check if the MAC changed I used
ifconfig en1 |grep ether

yeh tried that, my wireless is en1 as well, can change it manually or auto with relaymyhome. ehhhhhh will try another method some other day. thanks for trying to help though!

I'm using the same method and have found I have to stop and start wifi on the MBP for it to work after the MAC change. Worth trying....

I would be forever grateful if you'd help me out by changing your 3DS region in settings. I am using the cron job so my MAC changed every two minutes.

Someone....anyone??????????

Connecting to the Nintendo Zone only proves you have the correct SSID. One of my Macbooks is more troublesome than the other for spoofing the MAC address for some reason. The join network trick on here seems to help:

Wait how does this "spoofing" work? Even if you make your phone into a hotspot, don't people still have to actually pass near you to Streetpass?

We've got the relay thing, where it hands off your Streetpass to the next guy to walk by a Best Buy or some such. Well, this makes Nintendo/your 3DS think that your phone is some Best Buy in Germany, followed by some McDonalds in Britain, a Starbucks in California, so on so forth, when in reality it's a phone.

Thanks alot. I'm such a 3DS-n00b. :)

Hi All

I have 7 USA regions left to complete. Would anyone like to help? All you have to do is change your 3DS region in Setting temporarily. I would truly appreciate it as I've been Street Passing every 2 minutes for 24/7 for the last 2 weeks. I haven't been able to play any games at all when trying to do this.

Montana
North Dakota
South Dakota
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Louisiana
West Virginia
Puerto Rico

Is no one seriously going to bother helping me? I've been asking for over two weeks now and have been helping others as well.

I've left my 3DS on for over 2 weeks straight with it changing MAC Addresses every 2 minutes to help other obtain all puzzle pieces.

Are there no kind people???????

No offense intended, but I hope people aren't helping with this. I find it way more interesting to tag people actually living in different areas. Getting tags from different countries and regions has been kind of... I guess exciting? It would be disappointing to me to keep tagging the same person but with a different 'home' each pass.

Are there no kind people???????

Surely, with that many question marks, people will now jump at the chance to assist.

Suggestion: maybe pick a new MAC (or set of MACs) just for those that want to help with region changing? Also probably gives you a higher chance of passing with those folks than using the relays everyone else is using, if they aren't helping with this.
