Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

Just open up Content Manager on your Vita and connect via WiFi to your PC. Then open up the music or video app on your Vita and select your PC. From there you'll see your media files (just make sure that the CMA app settings on your PC point to the correct folders.)

For videos only MP4s will work but I've tested files up to 1080p and they playback smoothly without drops. But if you have a slow or busy network the Vita might take a while to cache the video and the app will just appear to freeze (just give it some time). Also I think the app needs your memory card space to cache videos so you'll need some free space on your memory card.

No need to use a cable unless transferring large games since those take a long time over wifi. And yes, your PC does need to be on for transferring and syncing to work.

Thanks for your reply.

It's kinda pointless to stream stuff when the PC has to be on, no? I might as well use the PC itself to listen to music and watch videos. It's good to know that content manager can work through wi-fi on PC though. I've been using the PS3 all the time and it's just annoying when you need to have a cable all the time. I might try it on the PC next time.

EDIT:

Oh, top page!

Buy:

Killzone
Virtua Tennis
Soul Sacrifice
Unit-13

So I stopped by GameStop today to put some more money down on the Jack Skellington Disney Infinity figure and decided to check out the Vita kiosk. They had quite a few games but I mainly played that picture platformer game. From the videos that I saw, it looked pretty boring, but actually getting some hands-on time with it proved me wrong.

Basically, you take pictures of the area to progress in the level and get these little sparkly things. For instance, there would be a square block that I would take a picture of and then "release" the picture by pressing L so the block would be in a different picture so I could get to a higher point in the level. The game was a lot of fun and it's definitely on my radar now. However, I can't remember the name of the game. Would someone help me out here? Thanks.

guys what is the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection like on the Vita?
Not perfect but pretty good. Textures have been downgraded for the Vita but you'll only notice during cutscenes and first person view. MGS2 runs at 30 and 60fps depending on the section, while MGS3 runs at 30 I think. Both get slight frame drops occasionally but it's miles ahead of the 3DS version. The biggest concern is probably the controls. No pressure sensitive buttons like the DS3 so things like interrogation have been mapped to the rear touch pad, and item/equipment select both require you to touch the corners of the front screen.

Overall I'd say it's still quite good and very worthwhile if you want to play the games on a portable.

I've put about 3 hours in Persona 4 GOLDEN and have some criticisms...

Okay don't get me wrong, I love the story so far, the characters are great and I like the dialogue but I'm wondering if things improve because:

1. Their is WAY to much dialogue. I have 3 hours in and I literally feel like i've moved my character a total of 20 feet.

2. The save system...I don't have 30 minutes at a time to play typically. Does it eventually open up to where you can save whenever you want? Can I just power my vita off and will it pick back up right where I was? (it did this when the battery died on me).

I really hope it gets better because I barely feel like I'm playing a game, feels more like an interactive story / anime than a game. Don't get me wrong, I AM enjoying it but just hope the above criticisms improve as I play more.

1. What will happen is you'll have large bouts of game play (dungeons) with very little dialogue or cutscenes, and then large bouts of cutscenes. It rotates between the two pretty frequently.

2. I don't remember if there was a quick save feature...

Have you had your first few battles yet? Once you get rolling into the combat, you'll find the daytime world opens up a lot for you, giving you a lot more choice in what you want to spend your time doing. There's still a lot of dialogue and character interaction in the main story, as well as a lot of other characters that you can invest your time in getting to know. Stick with it, things do open up. And besides, most of that dialogue is pretty decent.

As for the save system - you won't be able to just save wherever you want exactly, but a few locations are available (at school, at home, etc). You don't need to switch your Vita off, why not just put it to sleep and come back?

Okay yeah I had no idea that pressing power puts it to sleep. Does it still drain the battery? Sorry I'm new to the Vita, still trying to figure the ins-and-outs of how it works.

Even if your Vita shows low battery warning and then shutdows itself it will still preserve your "snapshot" for days or even weeks without recharging.

Typically i do the full shutdown of my Vita only when new firmware is released and all other time it's in sleep mode.

I put about 20 hours into P4G but I think I've decided I'm going to restart on an easier difficulty. Went for normal initially, might just go for very easy tbh.

The sleep mode of the vita is its best feature. By far.
Use and abuse.
Never could have finished P4 or many other games without it. My typical session is 20/30min long, so it's a godsend.

Yes, that's exactly how it works. The battery keeps pretty well, too. I've heard stories of a fully charged Vita lasting 2 weeks on sleep mode & still having over half battery left. Protip: press the PS button before you put it to sleep. It pauses whatever game you are playing in that exact spot, giving you a second to get yourself ready before jumping back Into the game when coming out of sleep mode.

What Vita games are you guys looking forward to the most?.

Valkyria Chronicles Origins
Valkyria Chronicles 3 HD
Valkyria Chronicles 1 Vita
FF Type Zero Final Mix
KH BBS Final Mix
Actraiser Rebirth
Einhander HD
U.N. Squadron
FFXII HD
Persona 5

*Smiles blissfully* dont ruin it for me

I don't think it's worth it.

If you have problems with clearing dungeons just do additional session of grind and you will be fine.

And the game is super easy after first two or three dungeons even on hard.

Battery drains in sleep mode, but EXTREMELY slowly. Even compared to 3DS sleep mode(closing the cover) Vita sleep mode lasts exponentially longer. I once put Vita to sleep at 98% battery power, 2 days later I turned it back on and the system was at like 85% power. Just crazy. I didn't have any of the wifi stuff like Near or cloud uploads on though, which might add an extra hit.

So yea, embrace the sleep mode, in fact the only time I have ever powered off my Vita is when I hit the shop download bug forcing a reboot. Just tap the power button to enter sleep and charge when low on juice.

Sucks that Ys got delayed to November. Was interested in trying it out. Never played Ys before and that looked like a good starting place. How are the ones on PSP, might just play those first to make up the difference.

def the reason i use my Vita so often. i'm in & out of shooting my way through 18 holes in 5 seconds.

I tried to get into P4G but I couldnt. I thought it was boring. I played for about 3 or 4 hours then called it quits. Not my cup of tea I guess.

Don't all handhelds have something similar ?

I remember abusing it on PSP too - altrough i lost a game there a few times since it didn't last more than few days.

All great.

Most would probably recommend Oath of Felghana(remake of Ys 3) first to jump in. They all play slightly differently but are all solid action RPG's. Ys 1/2 is pretty old school where mechanically you just scrub and bump into enemies to attack which takes a bit of conditioning. All games have strong hit and run pattern recognition tactics for many encounters, particularly bosses. Equipment, leveling, some sidquests, etc...

Oath in Felghana has more platforming with direct combat and unique attack abilities and magic giving it a more Metroidvania vibe using those combat abilities to help navigate new zones and revisit old locations to make new discoveries.

Ys 7 is more action focused with barely any platforming, but the combat is very strong and visceral.

And I suppose if you really want to get into the series from the beginning, Ys Origin on PC(Steam) is a prequel to Ys1/2 with similar mechanics to Oath in Felghana. No PSP port of that one though.

Just so you know, Celcetta on Vita is a remake of Ys 4 and will look the prettiest. But it really doesn't matter where you start from. The stories have very minor links besides sharing the main cast of characters, each essentially just has them travelling to distant new lands and stopping some new evil. Pretty self-contained stuff with only minor conversations, banter here and there reminiscing on prior adventures where appropriate. Just nods to fans, but nothing pertinent and usually rare.

Ys Oath and Ys7 are fantastic games. Some of my favorites for the PSP. Fast-paced, never stop moving action gameplay

Awesome thanks for the information.
Think I might just grab them all at this point. Been wanting to jump into this series for awhile.

Which is the best one to start with? Never played any of them

They are different enough games that either is fine to start with. Each is its own adventure with no ties to overall story so doing it chronologically isn't a factor.

7 is more RPG-based as it has more towns, shops, equipment, and even gives you party members to switch to on the fly. It's still a 1 character action/adventure game though in terms of combat with new things like parries and rolls.

Oath is more classic style Ys. You get 1 main town and go off to several dungeons and combat is more restrictive as your only means of defense is simply running or jumping out of the way. But because of the animations, the game feels more tighter and precise. It's more RPG-lite as the upgrades to weapons and armor are few but meaningful and xp system is very simple. Not doing enough damage to a boss? Go grind and gain a single level. 1 level is a big difference in terms of damage output.

Ys 7 has more dialogue and story, while Oath has significantly less. May be a good or bad thing depending on the person you are.

So go with whatever seems more intriguing to you based on the descriptions I gave.

What exactly makes the Vita screen look so good? my phone's display has higher ppi and resolution but dat OLED still holds its own.

So, Helldivers sounds cool and very tough.

- Cross-play between PS4/PS3/Vita (cross-buy not yet confrimed)
- Randomly generated levels
- Like Magicka, you have to input different commands in real team to use abilities
- Friendly fire is always on and reloading works properly (unlike most games)
- Enemies spawn infinitely

Described as 'almost comically difficult'. I like the sounds of it.

I dont blame people for getting tired of P4G...the game takes 5+ hours before it stops holding your hand.

Im about 20 hours in and about to
rescue Kenji? from tha suana dungeon
and I still feel like it hasnt opened up all that much more.

The characters and dialogue are great though.

Honestly the game gets easier as it goes on. The first dungeon and its boss can feel pretty hard on Normal for a first time player. But everything else after that really starts coming into place. Normal actually felt too easy for me after a while and I wanted to switch to a harder difficulty, despite the fact that I was worried it was too hard at first.

The game isn't that difficult, and the latter half is a lot easier than the first half

Cheers all, didn't know it got easier as it went on. Will press on so.

Think of it as an iPhone/iPad, you don't turn it off, just put it to sleep. Depending on your WiFi settings, the battery holds for 7-14 days in this state.

dunno but it's just the regular Samsung super amoled+ many phones use it nowdays, and while oled advantage is blacks I think true hd IPS screens are look better for colors.

Yes! that's the one! The one bad thing, and when I say bad, i mean BAD, about the game was that the framerate was terrible. Anytime you collected a large amount of those things, the framerate would drop. When you get to the end of the level, a whole bunch of them come out of nowhere and you absorb them for no apparent reason. That would be cool, but the framerate is at its worst when this happens.

I don't know how they compare on the BoM, but IPS screens are a good alternative to OLED. Maybe it's a possibility should they ever make a Vita revision.

Just finished breakquest extra evolution. Originally only downloaded it to have a quick look, but for some reason got sucked in. Completed all the levels (still have 18 balls left, didn't need to spend anything), but it's only showing 98% complete

What are some of the best VITA PSN games? I saw some that looked interesting like:

Doodle God
Mutan Blobs Attack
Some Ninja Rabbit game?
A-Men

Its hard to judge by the reviews because I honestly don't think I've ever seen a game with less than 4 stars...

Is there a list of the best PSP games to download and play on my Vita?

Only issue is, I'm stuck with the Australia PS Store, I'm not sure if it differs too much from EU/US stores at all.

But I'd like some more PSP stuff.

What I have so far:

- Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
- YS Seven
- The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
- Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Edition
- Lunar: Silver Star Harmony
- Power Stone Collection

Any recommendations - RPG, Racing, Fighting etc. As long as they're good! :D
How's power stone?

I'm not one to really go for the super-violent stuff, but there cannot be enough good things said about this cover art.

This is amazing.
