GTA V has gone gold.

I love Western and RDR bored me to tears. I stopped in Mexico and don't recall a freaking thing about that game. Not a single memorable thing about it in my humble opinion. Rockstar's been slipping lately. Come to think of it, I haven't played a good R* game in ages.

What decent games have you played recently? From any developer?

Duuude.

RDR = best R* game yet.

I want Michael dressed like the original Alan Wake

I'm just glad that I won't see several Niko's running around. Hopefully everyone is pushed towards creating their own unique avatar, rather than trying to make characters from GTA or other games. The way this works seems to imply that you aren't going to be toggling sliders, and changing shoulder width etc. It's better than having presets, but it'll mean that everyone has to create a grounded character (so no Hulk's, for instance).
That's a good point, probably just as well. Still I don't think anyone's going to run out to buy the collector's edition just so your character can kind of sort of look like Niko.

What Rockstar has been able to get out of these consoles is incredible, I get all misty eyed when I think about what they will be able to accomplish on next gen hardware.

This game will receive a 96% Metacritic and all the score won't count for shit because of how predictable games writing is. I'll wait 2 months after launch to see if NeoGAF approves of GTA V when the dust has settled and the hype is gone. No other way to find out its true qualities. I'm still scarred from GTA IV and didn't like RDR either.

Then don't fuck with Rockstar. Simple as that really.

It's old, but still beautiful. Shows the recreation of the Salton Sea below. And "Love Mountain" or whatever that thing is called... the multicolored hippy thing on the ground positioned beneath the wing on the right.

.

I wonder if you'll lose health swimming in it with out proper gear.

Weird, so you don't play as Claude or Niko but you can choose them as parents for your custom made character? Yeah no thanks, I will snap up the special edition though.

The way they word it is that by choosing your parents you can use the gene dominance thing to zone in on which parent's appearance you favor more. So if your father is Niko then you should be able to have your avatar look like him.

I hope there's a parent option for Max Payne and Mona Sax....

I find GAF's hate for GTA IV baffling.
GAF isn't a person, it's over a hundred thousand people. And if you were able to do a poll, I bet the majority of members would say they liked it.

That said I think it was pretty awful. It looks like Rockstar may be redeeming themselves with this game though. Forgive and forget, or at least forgive, that's my motto.

Have they explained anything about the wanted system yet?

Be awesome if you could go out to the country and commit crimes in smaller towns with little risk, but perhaps a heavier presence in following days should a civilian witness you.

The majority of posts I've seen concerning GTAIV on GAF have been filled with vitriolic rage (hyperbole!!), so I dunno what you're talking about.

Yes. It's a 5 star system now. Cops uses line-of-sight. Masks hold notoriety. Stolen cars hold notoriety.

IV aged poorly and did so rather quickly; that's the source of most of the hate in my estimation. At the time, most everyone thought it was the bomb.

Recently someone here posted that all the GTA IV 10/10's spoiled him on trusting reviews, and that he now only trusts Classic Game Room; I fired up CGR's IV review and, sure enough, he says "the best most amazing game I've ever played" or something similar, right on queue. So that was funny.

At one point I played IV for like 14 hours straight, which is still a personal record. So while I no longer think it's "omg awesome" (not even close), the general "IV sucks" that permeates many IV discussions is pretty silly, imo.

part of me still can't believe the game looks as good as it does, especially after a recent playthrough of GTA IV. the difference between the two (as far as we know so far) is quite staggering

Yeah, GTA IV had it's issues certainly, but it was by no means terrible. In fact, its hard for me to go back to SA and VC after playing IV.

Anyway, can't believe this is out in like 3 weeks. Current gen is certainly going out with a bang.

Exactly. It was really the first open world game of this generation, and it was great at the time. It's only in hindsight that it was shallow, but many classic games can be viewed this way.

sweet downgrading my preorder to special edition then, I wanted the special skins, but if they are just some suggested genetic curve to a default character, meh I say, meh!

IV aged poorly

How so? I'm still playing it to this day [doing a final playthrough right now], aside from the character models and on-foot controls pretty much everything in the game is still lightyears ahead of any other open world sandboxer out there.

The Salton Sea is not poisonous. It's just nasty and reeks.

Right on. IV doesn't suck, but it aged poorly, and had a lot of bad gameplay decisions that stand out for being notoriously bad. If it weren't "GTA" and if it didn't get perfect scores from every outlet, then it wouldn't get the harsh criticism it does. I do think that it deserves a lot of that criticism for taking some very notable steps back from the previous game. The mission variety in IV is also very poor and once the "new game" glean rubbed off, you can see through to a very bland set of missions with almost no variety.

That said, I loved IV when it came out. I ended up not liking it as much as time went on, and I've been replaying it recently and having a tough time playing through it. The lack of mission variety is what's really getting to me and I have very little motivation to do anything. Right now in the game I have no idea what my objective even is.

When I was playing GTAIV again I started to get a little less hyped for V, because Niko controls so poorly and the graphics (on consoles) have really aged poorly... I started to worry about 5. But, then, I booted up RDR last night and the graphical issues from IV are gone, Marston controls much better, and the environment is awesome.. So if they could achieve RDR just a year or two after GTAIV, I can only imagine what they can achieve a few more years late.

Edit-

Just looking up some stuff about RDR, and realized that the voice actor who played Landon Rickets, Ross Hagen, died in May of 2011. Sad

The bike looks good. I couldn't help myself. I had to get the Collector's edition. even thought it's a bit too expensive.

I will double dip when the PC version comes out so i went with the standard edition. Game already is expensive as fuck, normally games from my local store cost 60€ ...this game however costs 69€ the special edition would cost 85€.

Yeah no thanks.

I still play it too (as recently as a few days ago) so I'd rather not detail the reasons. Let's just say I can appreciate why people don't like it.

GTA Online introduces a new spin on traditional character creation with the hereditary-based creation system. Select your character’s appearance by choosing your parent’s heritage, then use the gene dominance meter to dial-in which parent your appearance favors more. Additionally, you'll customize your character's daily activities - everything from family time to illegal work and sports to couch potato hours all have an impact on your character’s appearance and skill set (and you can always rank up your skill stats more via gameplay).
Nothing short of spectacular, can't wait to get my hands on this. So does this mean we'll have a "family" online when we're not doing activites?

I think its probably a combination of 2 things.

1) People who really hated something are more likely to comment on it than people who were neutral or liked it.
2) Confirmation bias where if you really like a game, posts where people hated it will stand out to you and will be more memorable than posts where people who had neutral or positive things to say about it.

I say meh as well, the good news is we'll be saving a ton of money!

Another day of watching the trailers for GTA V. I just need to get the calendar turned to September already!

The outfits are alright. But for me, Michael will probably always be wearing the grey suit like Vincent from Collateral and Neil from Heat. Trevor has to have the Love Fist shirt. Not sure about Franklin yet.

Oh come one. That's some Ocean's Eleven, George Clooney, coolness.

Whenever I have to plan a heist, Michael will be dressed like that.

The black pulllover is cool but the cloak is too long. Michael is more Max Payne-style.

This is the only outfit I won't use, the others are well done. I

It looks stupid, Michael MUST wear a suit.

That's a pretty early shot. Graphical fidelity has been tuned back a bit, you can tell mostly on the shadows. Those spokes tho .. for riding down Mt Chiliad

I hope the in-game special and collector's edition extras are available for purchase separately either at release or later on.

It probably will still be at the Rockstar Warehouse at the very least- this happened with GTA IV & MP3 Special editions.

I paid off my CE for the 360, but I'm still torn about which platform to dedicate time on. I like the feel of driving with the 360 triggers, and got the Key to the City there, but I hope both versions are nearly identical.

Most if not all the in-game perks and unlocks from collector's editions/preorders were always released after for RDR and Max Payne 3. I would bet the same will happen for GTA V.

First thing I do when I get a bike : MT.CHILIAD. I hope we can still jump with the bike and improve the speed stat.
