GTA V has gone gold.

Do you guys think the Game exclusive special edition is worth it? The case and the blueprint map looks nice, but the DLC looks pretty worthless. I'm in two minds :/

I want the steelbook, the DLCs and the blueprint, so yes. (80€ instead of 50€) I already pre-ordered it.

Probably not. I'm still getting it though.
Was in the same boat as you. In the end £20 wasn't worth it for me although I did want the steelbook and blueprint map. Also considering it may be released on next-gen sometime next year I don't want to spend a lot this time round.

Right, I'll just place a preorder on the normal version then. £60 is quite a lot compared to the normal version for £35 on Amazon, I guess. Probably wouldn't have used some of the DLC that came with it either
(What is it with stupid 'stat boost' DLC? Who would possibly want that sort of thing?)
.

I know that R* has said that the difference between the PS3 and 360 versions will be negligible at best but I still wish we had some idea what to expect. Right now I have 2 seperate pre-orders. I placed one for the 360 LE a couple of months back and just recently put a second one down for the regular PS3 version just in case.

I got the SE for the PS3 so I am going to have to hope for the best since i have no choice :p

It's £25 more than the standard from Amazon and you're getting what I'd describe as trivial extras. Weigh it up. Are those extras worth £25 to you?

I know it's obviously far too early to talk about the next GTA games but if GTA VI was set in Vice City I would be more than fine with that and if GTA VII was set in San Francisco I would be fine with that too and if GTA VIII was set in Las Vegas I would be totally fine with that too.

Even though the series would be just revisiting cities it has done twice already I would much rather those interesting cities again rather than GTA Baltimore or GTA Philadelphia or whatever.

I never felt San Andreas (or the PS2) did San Fran and Vegas justice in the way a standalone game featuring only those cities (and better hardware) would have done.

It depends.
Since you don't seem to care about the extra clothes/tattoos, i'd say no.

Consider the fact that the basic retail already has a map (just not the blue print version) like any other GTA before it.

If you preorder (even the normal version or digital) you do get the BLIMP though.

Do we know if the normal map is in the Special/Collector Edition ?

Just pre-ordered the special edition off Amazon.

So I hear everyone saying the first thing they are going to do is take a bike and go to the mountains etc.

Anyone just going to play the missions?
I'm probably going to do that until there are some decent side stuff, which could be from the start but usually R* games take a few missions for that stuff to start.

I'll probably mess around a bit before I start the story. Not for that long, though. Just enough to get used to everything.

The first thing I'm gonna do is punch the first civilian I see.

Thankfully I'm receiving Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn tomorrow to make the GTA wait easier.

Yeah I usually just go right to the missions. Running around in the world isn't usually a thing I do. I'm guilty of just playing the missions to the end and go over to another game. Though in this game there seems to be ALoT of materiale to plat around with outside of missions so that might change .

Yeah I am going to follow the missions until I get to a point comfortable enough where I wanna start side activities.

This. I like to see where the story is taking me and start unlocking some shops and what-not before just exploring the entire map.

I'm probably going to complete at least the first story mission first, maybe the second one as well. But after that I'm going to find a Sanchez motorbike and I'm heading off into the countryside.

That's what makes GTA games so awesome. I genuinely want to explore their worlds purely for the sake of exploring them. I want to know what's around the next corner. I want to learn the layout of the streets. I want to memorise the map. No other open world games makes me feel like that. When I play Saint's Row The Third of Sleeping Dogs I never explore just for the sake of exploring, those cities are merely a backdrop to the missions and objectives.

Just plowing through the first few missions is mehh. The best parts of these open world games are the first 3 hours where you're dropped into a fresh new game world, and, in the best open world games, when you're still managed to be surprised by either a mission, an unlock, or a systemic event 25+ hours into it.

I also just can't contain myself to mission based structure when I know there's an entire map out there waiting to be discovered. The storyline can wait.

I get that.
Though you'll be forced to do some missions at least.

I'm at least getting a road cycle, somewhere. Mountains or not.

I need this fucking game.

Well yeah, I assume we're talking about when the game finally "lets go" of you, which by modern gaming standard should be about 2 hours in. That's why I've been hoping since the beginning that the game cold opens in the middle of a heist and teaches you on the move.

I always at least do the first mission before messing around. In most open worlds games, something "opens up" after you do that.

Yes it should be.
Special/Collector should have 2 maps, basically.

Thanks. That's great!

I'm going to play the missions, but I want to visit some of the world in my first hours. I'm probably going to do some missions, then free roam, then missions, then get another character, then free roam, the missions, then the last character etc. Depends of how they designed the first 3 hours. I want to take my time, not rushing the game.

Well, we know that won't happen, but maybe at some point.

Do any UK Gaffers know how good Game's online delivery service is? Pre-ordered the SE from them, want to know if it'll arrive on release day.

Anyone else have the feeling that 3 playable characters at the same time might be too overwhelming? I can already see most people just sticking to one character.

I'm sure plenty of people will have a favorite. But, it'll be interesting to switch in between characters often.

I can't wait. I've been replaying GTA4 without auto-aim and it's just been heaven. Headshots, bodies stumbling because they've been shot just an awesome strategic shooter if you can overcome some of its cumbersome controls.

I really wish you could shoot the gas tank of a car and have it explode.

Replaying the first part of a mission (driving to the fight) gets old quick.

No health items besides pickups can make long missions seem much harder than they should be.

And then I'll play Max Payne 3 and just be relieved on how much more fluid/cohesive/responsive this near identical (shooting/cover/animation/euphoria) system runs. I take that feeling and wonder what they are doing to improve the driving (which was already good).

I would say the best part is just after that, when you finally free to do what you want. Seeing the world for the first time is nice but ou are just seeing the small slices they want while the tutorial is going on. The moment after they have finally stopped introducing mechanics and you hope in a car thinking 'Ok, what's on the menu first'...THAT'S the best moment for GTA games for me.

Of course the last two GTA games spread the mechanics out for the first 5-6 missions so it blends together a little bit. It's all the stopping for prompts and tutorials in those mission I don't care for. Once that's over, it is fucking on!

I've had some good experience with them, I got New Vegas, Skyrim and MK Collector's Editions from them and I'm pretty sure each of them got to me a day early. I guess part of it depends on where you live and how good your postal service is though.

I heard all 3 characters aren't available from the beginning. Given that i'll probably complete enough missions when I get the game to at least have two of them unlocked.

This depresses me. Not because its far away but because I only have 2 weeks to finish the OT.
The tagline for the OT is gonna be "After five years on the east coast, it was time to go home" .....right? :p

or maybe "Daddies back, bitches"....that's a good one too.

Well, I live in Solihull, postal service generally varies a little. Orders from Shopto usually arrive a day or more before release (I remember Hitman came about 3 or 4 days early), while Amazon orders usually arrive on release day.

Kinda torn between sticking with my current order or switching to the normal Amazon version and using the Prime free trial. But dat steelbook, man. And it's GTA V.
