Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

Is Mortal Kombat any good for the vita, I enjoyed the PS3 version, does it have MP and all the dlc characters?

Yup. It has everything, and it runs great. The characters are pretty low-poly, if that bothers you. It runs at 60 fps, though, and there are a lot of bonus challenge towers exclusive to the Vita version.

Gravity Rush has such generous lock on controls that you are divekicking everything into nothingness. And the way you zoom around the world is still my favorite way of traversal in any game.

Any way you want to talk about poor controls, Ninja Gaiden Sigma has poor controls for platforming. Made infinitely worse with the final chapter (chap 19). I died more times getting to the boss than I did the entire game. And if you die at the boss you get to do the whole platforming section over again! At least the final boss was mostly fair, which is good considering you don't get any chance to stock up on health items since the beginning of chapter 18! Barring the gigantic dragon super than can destroy you of course.

I had to spam all my ninpo to get the last hit since I was down to my last bit of health but I did it. Ninja Dog, no more.

It's one of those games where mastering movement is critical to enjoying yourself. I know that sounds absurd, but the combat was frustrating me a bit too for a while, but at some point, controlling Kat clicked with me, and I just started to intuitively control her, with no more frustration. I learned how to use her combat skills while moving through the world, and that helped me with combat with enemies as well. While it's not perfect, I find the games controls and combat really exhilarating.

Oh, the controls aren't an issue for me. I feel like I have everything down fine (except the damn sliding). The problem for me is a) I find the combat annoying and frustrating (largely b/c there isn't much in the way of combat.. either dive or melee, and the melee sucks. If you dive, you often have to retreat immediately for many enemies, and the stunned period after a dive plus having to oftentimes turn the camera 180 degrees to be able to retreat in the direction you came from can be confusing and difficult), however, this has nothing to do with controls and b) the combat is repetitive the entire game it the frustration builds for me.

Either you understand where I'm coming from or you don't. If you think GR is great, that's fine; it's your opinion. I think it was a great concept that worked well at first but became frustrating and repetitive later on.

also, I bought Journey and Spelunky. Will go Spelunkin' tomorrow.

gravity rush combat was infuriating.

just wait if you try to decide to platinum it. gravity sliding is a pain in the ass

Its not that bad, I manage to platinumed it and I dont usually go for trophy hunting.

One interesting thing when playing gravity rush is that I have to play it standing to fully use the gyro aiming lol, I have no idea how I look when playing that game lol

You guys. Seriously, stop buying so many damn games xD

Never! I need to buy more Vita games.

My finish ratio on the Vita is actually pretty high, at least for games I have bought. Compared to all my other platforms it is superb. Sleep mode and the enjoyable hardware design really help. Scarce memory space also has me finishing games ;)

While speaking about it, I just finished GTA: Chinatown Wars. Was in the mood for some GTA so I finally did clear it from my backlog. I always liked the idea of a setting with asian gangsters and do like the idea of a top down GTA.

Unfortunately my expectations weren't met. The game has framerate problems while driving and the controls are really bad, damn Nintendo DS heritage. Everything feels clunky, especially the camera. Really happy we have a dual analog handheld now.

The writing and overall presentation suck as well as the characters. Game wasn't really funny.
Some smaller things also annoyed me like the AI or the PDA UI with its constant Emails you have to read.

The mission design was at least varied but the missing checkpoints in GTA games isn't something I like. The music was as expected from an GTA game very good.

Lol you win some you lose some.

I'm pretty sure he's just been losing at this rate!

It's like, if this is soccer it's Laughing Banana 0 - Discounted games 5.

Or if it's tennis, it's Love-Forty, Discounted games serving for the game two sets to zero :((

And I am *this close* to actually buy Machinarium too. If I actually bought it I think I am just gonna kill myself right now, hahaha....... *wipes sweat*

Any impressions on Floating Cloud God?

I liked the minis version. Seems like it would play better on vita with the dual sticks because the original only used O and it was firing off in a spread motion that you had no real control over. It's arcadey as you are progressing stage by stage getting as far as you can protecting your worshipers as they supply you hearts which give you kinda ammo but also double as your way of getting stronger attacks. And this can really only happen if you have a decent amount of followers otherwise your firepower won't increase since you slowly lose power with every shot.

All of this is based off the minis version, mind you. But I don't see why there would be a huge difference in the two.

At least in the case of Machinarium it's only a couple of dollars.

Gah another random sale that sets me totally off-course!

EDF! Hmm I really feel >< when games like this go on sale without PS+ discount :(

$15 would be awesome! (Or am I kidding myself)

ok guys - if i could pre-order one at full price which should i go with?

puppeteer or killzone:merc?

i really want both to support each dev, but i have such a killer back log right now and NEED to conserve some money.

any opinions?

Well that was enough Spelunky for one day lol. I am supposed to be asleep already. Still no one on my friends list playing it yet either.

Isn't this the old EDF? The new one launched recently in Japan, right? But that's for PS3. Is a Vita version in the works?

No word of a vita port. The PS3 version launched with so many bugs (actual bugs) that it was nearly unplayable and they've been scrambling to fix it since launch.

K.

Anyway, I'm part of the camp that finds the controls intolerable. Still going to power through it, though. Music is fantastic. Art direction is enchanting. And Kat is sex on stilts.

nothing wrong with playing while standing, when oculus rift become standard, we all probably be doing that. :P

I got problems mostly with the camera and not the controls, GR is a flawed game, very short and the combat is lacking and the side stuff are repetitive to hell but on the other side the flying is so great and very fun, the story missions cast and art style are awesome.

not sure if the shift from PS3 to PSvita is what hurt it, it clearly needed more development time (it's really like half a game) and less unnecessary motion gimmicks.

You can occasionally find the odd game.
I've never had any issues with the remenants of the community, at least.
Everyone I've randomed with was helpful and polite.

Hmm, you can chat? Oh, and does it support ad-hoc?

Also, just want to say all of you folks living in the US is so goddamn lucky. For instance, I have no way to buy PSN games digitally in my Vita without purchasing PSN pre-paid cards, and lately the economy is getting kind of rough with price increases everywhere that in order to get a 50 bucks worth of PSN code I need to pay around 57 bucks :(

...Well, I guess the fact that I am still single helps a lot, hahahaha.

Finally got to 2-1 on Spelunky...only to die about twenty seconds later. ARGH. Back to the beginning. :(

How many worlds total in this game?

If you have paypal check the buy/sell/trade thread here on GAF. I often see psn cards going for below face value on there, or you could make a request.

Killzone Merc.

There's a much much higher probability someone will buy puppeteer over KZ.

Like 70:5

KZM need a fov slider, I can't play it this way.

it's been ages since I played it last time but iirc 16(4 areas with 4 levels for each one) .

Can't you buy from Amazon? That's what I do mainly

Wow, I just beat Spelunky without using shortcuts on my fifth attempt. I've played a ton of the XBLA/PC version but I've never actually done that before. Crazy. Guess the Vita version is my good luck charm!

I'm gonna hazard a guess and say that your success is due to the godly Vita dpad.

How long does Spelunky last anyway?

Dude. Set up an amazon account with a fake US address and you can buy 50 dollar cards for 50 bucks.

I don't have paypal. In fact, and this may come as a surprise, I don't even know how to set it up *shamed*

This may also come as a surprise, but I don't even have a credit card :P So Amazon is a no-no for me. Besides, I don't even think they can deliver stuff here.... I think.

I've been wondering, is the Star Wars Pinball currently on offer from PS+ the standalone version or the DLC for ZP2?

It's for ZP2 DLCs.

Hmmmmmm.

I'm still chipping away at Gravity Rush, trying to get the platinum trophy. I completed the main story a few months ago, so now I'm working on getting gold on all of the challenges.

Definitely could have helped.

And...length doesn't really apply in this game. As you can see in my picture I beat the game there in 22 minutes...but you'd never be able to do that without playing the game for 10+ hours at least first.

Plus it continues to be extremely replayable after beating it. There's even a second, tougher ending to go after (that I've never been able to do).

So I suppose my question about EDF's online still alive or already died is getting no answer is an answer in itself, hahaha.
A month or two ago I tried at several different times in the day, and got no results. I see a bunch of gaffers jumpin in it now? Perhaps there is will be someone playing at least once or twice during your play time. I got a third of the way through pale wings campaign and stopped for a bit.

The game (EDF) is an absolute blast though. I can't imagine the fun in MP.

Amazon actually just sends you a code via email. But yea, it'll be difficult to buy stuff w/o a credit/debit card.

Maybe you can visit a bank to set one up. I use a debit card (but with a mastercard logo on it), and it costs me next to nothing. I just need a savings account at the bank.
