First ever DriveClub direct feed racing footage (GamesCom)

I think Driveclub (ps4 exclusive) looks a whole generation better than Lococycle (Xbone exclusive) therefore PS4 is truly the most powerful console out there! /s

Dory you have to take into account the teams behind the games, their pedigree, talent etc. Evolution has always delivered and I think DC looks mighty impressive and guess what? I also think Forza looks nice, just not quite as nice.

If you want to talk about Xbone next gen, we could also talk about dead rising 3! They're "aiming" for 30fps lol. Great example of what that Xbone gpu can do.

wouldn't really be fair to do that would it?

I think that both games look beautiful. Can't wait until NOV. I have both systems pre ordered on Amazon, and I was planning on canceling one of them. After seeing the recent KZ and Driveclub footage, I'll likely buy both consoles..

Good time to be a gamer.

It's amazing how people can deduce which game looks better from alpha builds in a youtube video. If you are going to be ridiculous and nitpick every little thing about each game, then at least wait for them to be released.

Why do people care about games they are never going to touch?
This.

I feel like all the Driveclub vs. Forza nonsense belongs in a separate thread.
Agreed.

Great post, wwas just going to post something similar.
As a fan of racing games in general, is it really impossible for people to like and want to play both?

Where are the direct feed YouTube links? Are they posted, didn't see them in the OP except for the ripped facebook versions which I don't think do the game justice going by this thread

we are just waiting for Sony PR to publish them

you know how good Sony's marketing is

It's not even close:

The thing that impressed me was the modelling of the commentators, although could do with some amped saturation to live with the overall sickly-sweet look to the game world itself.

Thread is all about that direct feed DC footage, can't wait to see something closer to 1:1 instead of the horribly mushy fb vids. People say evo always improve massively as they push towards release, the promise that this game could deliver so much more has me eying up rather expensive wheels...

Except we've heard "just wait until developers get a grasp of the PS3 architecture" for almost years" before they finally died down. Bethesda even saw its stock as a technical house plummet after Skyrim. I bet Violition is about to get the same treatment from Teraflops integrists because of Saints row 4.
Are you actually fucking kidding me? Is a PS4 a PS3 now or something? You know that the PS3 and PS4 architectures are nothing alike and you know why developers struggled with the PS3, please stop using false equivalency to try and make an inane point.

Call me naive but given that the unanimous consensus in all debates I've seen is that the PS4 enjoys a considerable technical advantage over the Xbone, I was expecting to see it reflected at least in the first party games

DC already looks better, but lets see what happens at launch... since now you are opening up and showing this has a lot more to do with PS4 vs XB1 and not much to do with DC at all, KZ and Infamous look a lot better than anything seen on XB1 so far.

I haven't really been following this much, but the recent positive impressions have got me interested. What sort of racer is it shaping up to be? I've never been that into GT-style simulators, I like 'em arcadey. Motorstorm was great, if Evolution are trying for a similar feel here?

Sim-Cade. Think NFS Shift but a better version from the sounds of it.

You're right. Next gen starts when Driveclub says so.

haha this is so cute! I hope you don't get banned or anything....

Anyway if you go back to the e3 and pre gamescom threads. I said Forza looked orders of magnitude better than DriveClub. But now we know DriveClub has dynamic global illumination, the environments are rich and casts real time shadows.

Forza 5 on the other hand has baked lighting solution and faked static shadows....

One racing games is pushing new technology, while the other is simply displaying last gen tech at 1080p 60 FPS, with AA...

Technically speaking DriveClub is light years ahead of Forza 5.

edit: That reflection tech looks great, first time I have seen it in a racer! Very impressive

Evolution typically dumps the AA on at the end of production. I have a feeling the image quality on DC is going to be massive by it's release.

I dispute that and it has half the frame rate. But opinions are just what they are.

And people are making fun of Microsoft for doing 180s? they should read some of the the Neogaf threads :)

Why does every Drive Club thread have to become a DC v Forza graphics thread?

I think it looks great, and I think Forza looks great. Why can't people leave it at that?

did you see it live or is that statement basing on gifs and vids?

Given Evolution's track record in the past with earlier builds looking rough vs the final mind blowing retail product it's probably better to compare when both are out. As for now this is a Driveclub thread and the "vs" crap with Forza should be in a new thread where everyone can argue as much as they want.

Call to Rushy: People are getting impatient and frustrated, let's see some 1080p footage please :D

Ein Bear needs to think of PGR's feel, EmptySpace suggests.

I just can't believe were doing this all over again :P So much crow will be served.

Side note, do you guys remember how much crap GOW3 got before it launched? I was thinking back on it, and that game was practically written off as an abomination when that demo launched. It was the laughing stock all over the internet. Then as soon as the game dropped people were speechless lol. I still don't know why people continue to doubt Sony's ability to make a great looking game.

GOW3 is the best looking game of this generation. I'm still amazed at how good it looks and how well it runs on the system. Remarkable.

Because 1080/60 is all that matters. Regardless of whether or not anything is in the frame to render. Shhhhh... just accept.

exactly, we should consider everything and how that taxes CPU/GPU: poly count, textures, lighting, framerate, resolution etc....

hard to tell which one is pushing hw further at this point. My opinion is that Forza looks like a HD remake of 360 forzas which is fine. Drive club is aiming for next gen visuals but still has some work to do.

Well in there current builds, I'd give the nod to DC simply for what it's actually displaying. And if it's anything like typical Sony, they're going to slap the post processing effects on extremely late in the cycle, and that's what literally ramps the graphics up to 11.

Yeah. GOW2.5 apparently. Some people said visually it just seemed like an HD gow2. Then the gametrailers 20 min episode hit and crow was served.

Oh yeah man, it was brutal lol. I'd laugh my ass off if this is a repeat.

So going off the theory that Evolution has yet to slather the post processing effects on, what would you guys say is missing, and how would that effect the final product?

Right off the bat I'd say they haven't used a finalized form of Anti-alliasing, I think they've got a placeholder in now. Probably a downramped motion blur as well.

Do we know if they are recording these clips with the PS4 recording feature?

Rushy, if you can please upload it to vimeo.com, YouTube is a piece of s lately. Also, very little compression on vimeo

One thing that I'm just noticing that is really breaking my immersion is a severe lack of tire marks and skidmarks being left on the roads. I hope Evolution plans to address that, as I haven't seen it mentioned at all in the thread or in the social pages.

Someone who uses Twitter please tweet Rushy re: tire marks. It'd be a shame for the game not to have any other than the ones that are already on the road.

.

I am a big fan of evo, and Motorstorm is my favourte IP last gen so i am sure they will deliver. But for now i'd rather be conservative.....
i also want to see more tracks to have a better opinion of the game. Hopefully some spectacular tracks are yet to be seen...
Can't wait for direct feed HD youtube footage though :)

AA, a dab of motion blur, and maybe some particle effects - the clouds of dust the cars kicked up in the gamescom demo looked a bit plain

because GT isn't on PS4 yet.

AA is a big one, yes. that affects the entire game

I'd really like to see some DoF or some other slight blurriness of certain car structures in the cockpit view. the forward pillar and roof along the edge of my FoV are never clearly in focus when I'm driving - focus is on the road and instruments. So it'd be nice if they were slightly less focused than the main road to try to replicate that. Dials and wheel stay in focus, though. just edge structures.

And I had mentioned earlier that it'd be nice if they did something to make the mirror images look a bit more like they're from a mirror. slightly darker, some slight aberration from non perfect mirror surfaces. all driving games that show rear view mirror images make it look almost like a pasted video screen on a flat, perfect surface.

What good are the graphics if it handles like shit? Which is why this thread has become a joke, people bitching about early builds of games not many have even played. That applies to both games.
