Chappelle walks off stage

He'd already asked the crowd before this (several times) to stop yelling and let him do his set, but certain people in the crowd wouldn't stop yelling. The owners of the venue didn't do anything and let a handful of people ruin the show for everyone. After nearly a half hour, Dave Chappelle said goodnight and walked off the stage (shown in this video).

He's been incredibly funny during his sets in the rest of this tour, so I really feel it was the crowd's loss in this case.

So...what the hell happened in the 20 minutes before this YouTube video started?

From what I've read in the comments

Edit: damn you East Lake!

I love chappelle but people are morons, and he always seems to have faith that people are better then they really are. I don't think he will ever learn to just say fuck it.

Just imagine how many times he has heard groups of drunken retards shouting out Chappelle's show quotes during his jokes and you'll probably understand the problem.

I would be extremely pissed if I didn't get a full DC set because people were probably yelling "I'm Rick James, bitch!" over and over.

Didn't we have a thread like this before? Also do your research before you open up a thread because of one video and claiming he isn't good. We get it, you don't like him, now how about you get over it and let others enjoy whatever show they like?

From the HuffPost link I posted, but yeah, reading comments on different peeps make it seem he did not handle it well.

My friend went to this. He paid good money and traveled a couple states away to see him. Said there was a bunch of assholes who wouldn't even let him speak.

Sad.

What is this Rick James thing?

I am Rick James bitch, one of the more famous skits from Chappelle Show. He got type cast with his own fuckin joke. Has to suck.

Wow Bad Boy .... hope your friend at least punched a heckler in the kidney.

I like Chappelle though.

You guys seem to be picking the comments that say it was the audiences fault.

Here is a different comment from article posted earlier in the thread:

The only thing is, the crowd wasn't the best but the majority of the crowd wasn't asking him to do his old routine... although to be honest the only things I heard being shouted out were, "I love you Dave!" People were excited to see him! He could've handled it SO much better instead of completely stopping the show and wasting our money! The bad heckling didn't start until it was realized that he was just going to smoke the whole time and make backhanded sarcastic comments at the audience.

Yeah I remember some standup he did where he mentioned how much he didn't enjoy people running up to him and yelling I'm Rick James Bitch all the time when he was at Disneyland with his family.

When you are someone who hit the fame and notoriety like Dave did though, there will always be people like this in the stands. As a comedian he has to find a better way to deal with the idiots. Chappelle show was to hot for his own good, obviously. He has to take his show by the balls and make these peopLe shut up through his humor and wit. I don't want to see my man end up some angry dude like Katt Williams.

Sorry that I even said their names in the same post that shit isn't right lol.

Katt Williams is angry because he's 4'11.

Er, if people are yelling shit at him it's a distraction either way. Watching a longer video right now and the "Love you Dave" stuff seems like a reaction from the people in the crowd who aren't shitheads realizing the show is being ruined.

What a weird thing to troll over, OP.

What have i done? I posted a video of Chappelle walking off stage. This is news and i thought you guys would be interested in seeing it.

I posted my opinion that i thought he didn't really handle it too well.

It's one thing to have a few hecklers that any good stand-up can disarm with some well placed insults. It's another to have a large portion of the audience yelling while you're concentrating on what you're doing. It may seem simple, but stand-up is still an act and requires memorization, timing, intonation etc. etc. etc. Fuck the audience, they didn't deserve Chappelle.

Not surprised a Hartford crowd would heckle a comedian off the stage. I thought about going but I hate large crowds and would get immediately pissed at the guy next to me yelling like an idiot. I have a very low threshold for that shit.

another video
Going by that video, with 8 straight minutes of being unfunny and commenting on how much money he's going to make... Yeah, Chappelle get off the stage

Apparently the heckling didn't start until Chappelle stopped and started smoking weed. The reason he started smoking weed is because he heard a few noises from the front row

More like you watched the video, saw what you wanted to see without bothering to read anything about what happened during the set and then decided to make another shitty "Dave Chappelle is sooooo overrated" thread.

From another forum.

So you know why one of the reasons Dave stopped doing standup and his show was people would go to his stand up shows and just shout catchphrases from his TV show at him? First ten minuets that's what people in the crowd were doing. After fifteen minuets of trying to get them to quiet down and getting a few jokes done he basically said "Screw it, i'm obligated for 25 minuets and once that's up i'm out" And started to talk to a few of the people in the crowd. After that people started to leave and boo. A few people who were walking past me were shouting "You Suck" And such. Most memorable shout from the crowd at Dave gave up was "I go to collage, I paid for this."

I'ts clear once he knew he couldn't get the crowd to shut up, any joy he had doing comedy was just sucked out of him and it really sucks to see that.

If anyone who works on the Tour or performs on the tour reads these forums. Just please tell him to not give up and I hope the other shows aren't like this. On behalf of CT I really am sorry. It's rare I feel ashamed for my home state but here it is.

Also I can't really tell from the video but these are probably decent size audiences. It's one thing to shut up a few morons in a small venue but the larger it is the harder it gets to control.

I did read into it before i posted. There are conflicting reports on it, but as Chappelle has a history of being a bit sensitive i would guess it isn't the audiences fault this time.

I could be wrong

You're kind of all over the place though. In your last thread, you praised him for being a great stand-up but attacked the TV show because you thought it was poorly written yet here you are now trying to back up your claims from the last thread by painting him as a bad stand-up based on your loose interpretation of what's going on in the video.

Sounds like you have some personal problems with the man. Problems deep enough that you've decided to start a grass-roots smear campaign against him. That's what it seems like to me at least.
