Chappelle walks off stage

This is not a surprise. At the height of his fame, this is the kind of stuff that led him to back away from the show. I went to a show he did here in Orlando years back and he joked that he went to Disney with his kids and even Mickey was saying "I'm Rick James BItch" to him and his kids. Obviously a joke, but as soon as he walked on stage, people started shouting a bunch of his jokes and he really seemed irritated. The venue we were in was pretty small, so I can't imagine what its like in a bigger venue.
 
I really don't like people who continue to disrupt a performer even after the performer's asked them to quiet down. There are points in any given set that you're supposed to react, but usually during the set itself isn't one of them. Even if I had gone to this show, I wouldn't have thought bad of Dave for doing what he did because different performers have different tolerance levels.

My guess is...People were yelling "im rick james bitch" and other various lines from his show

People beg for him to come back, but its ruined by douche bags who feel like they need to yell a line from his show...thinking they are the first person to do so..seriously people?
 
He's even spoken about this on the show. I can picture him just walking down the street and some random person comes up to him and says "I'm Rick James bitch!", while he's like "seriously WTF I got my kid with me".

This shit it the worst. People just regurgitating humor because they can't think of something funny themselves. Hell, even happens on GAF. Just go into any thread that vaguely sounds like a South Park joke and you'll get eight posts about the episode that mildly references it.
 
Not surprised at who created this thread and I'm not surprised at the backlash.

I like how DC is the one who decided he wasn't going to put up with yelling and heckling so he walked off stage and somehow he's the one who had a meltdown...not the idiots yelling who ruined the show for everyone else.
 
I am still surprised he didn't walk off when he came to knoxville awhile back. The people here were fucking awful. As if i couldn't feel even more ashamed of my city.
 
I love Billy, but they're not the same style. Bill's a hair-trigger, and the audience, while behaving similarly, was a completely different crowd.

I'm so tired of entitled assholes thinking that, because they paid money for a ticket, they're allowed to dictate what they get. You want Chappelle's Show bits? You have the goddamned DVDs. He's not going to do them differently. And then you have the nerve to get upset and complain because he doesn't want to deal with your unruly ass? Ugh. He stayed on there longer than he should have. He tried to get them to pay attention. They didn't want to. Joke's on them- he still got paid.

Don't defend the audience. Don't shame the comedian. One was trying to do the right thing for the other- the other just wanted to throw a temper tantrum.

I don't blame him and i wouldn't of blamed him if he walked off during the show he did here.

Hecklers are fucking shit bags. They are almost Paparazzi level scum.
 
Saw him in Nashville in June. He was awesome and the crowd was awesome. At the end of the set, he started to hang out and just chat with the audience, but then someone yelled "I'm Rick James, bitch!" and he was like "Alright, that's my cue to leave."
 
People at comedy shows who talk are fucking dumb asses. If you want attention then go to open mic's. If you think you're funny then open fucking mic. Don't go to a show, hide in a crowd, and try to get a cheap laugh.

Easy tiger, hecklers can get a comedian to crack some funny gags too. Some stand ups can make a heckler feel like a right dickhead sometimes. Frankie Boyle is pretty good with hecklers amongst many others. They should be able to handle it.
 
I don't like Chappelle's comedy, in general. But I'm 100% with him here. He tried to be patient, tried to wait them out, tried to play their game, and so on. Eventually, he just gave up and hung out for a bit. Then he left. Fair enough!
 
One of the best nights of my life was seeing Dave here in Cincinnati. It was his first show back from Africa and he was amazing. We were seated right next to the stage for some ungodly reason. Waiting for the show to start, some guy was seated right next to me, shoulder to shoulder, I look over and low and behold im sitting right next to Ken Griffey Jr. I kept my cool and just gave him a nod and let him and his wife enjoy the show. When I say I was right next to the stage, Dave was ashing his cigs on my tables ash tray. Amazing night filled with tons of laughter.

I've seen a variation on this routine and its great "The black man in me was offended. How could you be saying this Kramer? But the comedian in me was going 'Damn, Kramers having a bad set tonight. Dont let em get to ya Kramer!' "
 
He did what he should have done. What is he supposed to do? Confront the hecklers the whole time?

Why not just walk off stage and put the blame on those that wouldn't shut the fuck up?
 
I went to the first stop of the Oddball Fest last week and he was funny but at this point he is definitely not much of a stand-up comedian. He made me laugh, but it was mostly just talking and observing and responding a bit to the crowd. One guy was going to be tossed out but he told them not to do it and kinda segued it into a bit.

Towards the end of his 45 minutes, he thanked us jokingly for sitting through it since he'd only done 11 minutes of actual material. He talked about how he was legitimately going crazy for awhile but stressed it wasn't due to drugs (not sure I believe that personally).
 
I caught Chappelle in 2010 at the Comedy Cellar in a surprise performance, and various drunks kept shouting RICK JAMES BITCH for two hours. He was furious.

What is needed is some hard ass volunteers to go pour drinks on people's heads and toss them out of doors.
 
If anyone next to me was yelling during a comedy show I would tell them to shove it, and I'm one of the most passive people around. It's not a sporting event, it's not a concert... you are there to listen to someone tell jokes. How does yelling at the comedian ever cross anyone's mind?

Exactly. Yelling does not increase a magical comedy meter.

He probably didn't do his material because people won't shut the fuck up. I notice that in a lot of his recent videos there's a lot of people talking.

I don't use twitter as much as the kids, but I don't think Joe Rogan was the one who tweeted that. I believe it was tweeted "at" him.
