Not in this film, but Kanji and Misato have a pretty famous love scene around this time. Pushed some cultural boundaries when it happened. People not used to seeing pretty explicitly implied sex in animation. Nothing explicit. Rocking bed, some moaning and a cigarette afterward, but it was unexpected from a wide release non-porn show.
