Pretty self explanatory. Some bands take a while to build up to their full potential, while others nail it right out of the gate.

My pick:

An absolute classic in my opinion. So many memorable songs, a distinct sound, it's just fantastic. I really haven't listened to much Killers after Hot Fuss, but damn I'm glad we got this album.

So GAF, let's see your picks.

There's quite a few, but for the moment I'll go with Alt-J's "An Awesome Wave". That's a pretty damn good effort for a debut.

Please Please Me - The Beatles
Stone Roses - Stone Roses
Definitely Maybe - Oasis
The Smiths - The Smiths
Badly Drawn Boy - Hour of the Bewilderbeast

Sure they share similar genres but each one are pretty seminal albums in their own right. All are quite influential too, maybe not so much Badly Drawn Boy but its an equally assured beautiful debut

Wu Tang Clan enter the 36 chambers. Album literally has only great songs.
Nas Illmatic is a feat that will never be matched.
Both are tied in my mind.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Devin Townsend - Biomech/Ocean Machine (it's his first solo album, but he had already done an album with Strapping Young Lad and Punky Brüster and that Vai album)

First 5 that came to mind

Nirvana - Bleach
Pearl Jam - Ten
Bruce Springsteen - Greetings From Asbury Park
Tom Waits - Closing Time
Nas - Illmatic

Some of my favorites:
Pearl Jam - Ten
Kendrick Lamar - Section.80
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
The Doors - The Doors
Nas - Illmatic
Kanye West - The College Dropout
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Television - Television
Bauhaus - In the Flat Field

Good kid Maad city
Uhm, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City is Kendrick's second album. His debut, the amazing Section.80, was released a year earlier.

That's not even close to being their debut. Colors is their fourth album for crying out loud.

Many people don't count Section.80 but I can see how some would. I personally consider it a mixtape regardless of his affiliation with top dawg ent. ironically I consider so far gone drakes debut album even though he didn't release it under a label until later with most songs gutted.

Does this count?

It's like she exhausted all of her creative power on her first album, but every single track was a potential single.

Jagged Little Pill was her third album.

Agreed with the posts re Pearl Jam - Ten and Foo Fighters.

Blackened Sky by Biffy Clyro is pretty great too.

my bad, missed the debut part.

I love that album...but it's the fourth one they made (fifth if you include their cover album).

edit: nvm, dat edit

double edit: There have been some amazing debut death metal albums, such as:

Morbid Angel: Altars of Madness

Entombed: Left Hand Path

Autopsy_severed_survival.jpg

Autopsy: Severed Survival

Illmatic
Enter the Wu-Tang
Ready to Die
The Chronic
