I have got to get on Stumptown. I am ashamed if myself for not doing it sooner. I even bought the omni on Comixology but I'm holding off to read it on paper. I've heard it's the superior way to experience the piece.

Stumptown caught my eye a few weeks ago. I'll probably grab both hardcovers when the second volume drops.

Forgot to post my Wednesday haul.

8/28/13:
Batman Superman #3. Jae Lee is really killing it with his art. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Greg Pak's writing. Pretty cool to see how Bruce and Clark met and I think this is the best issue yet, but it just hasn't "clicked" with me yet.
FBP Federal Bureau of Physics #2. I don't even have Collider#1 but will probably order it through Midtown.
Captain Marvel #15 (Infinity Tie-In). Jumped in blind and picked this up. Not sure what's going on with Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman (best friends, I guess?). This is a two-parter so it's not going to break my bank to pick up the second part when it's released.
New Avengers #9 (Infinity Tie-In). Wow, I'm really impressed. I think I'll have to start following New Avengers. Has it always been this good?
Thanos Rising #5 (Infinity Prelude). I'm really digging the back stories to Infinity.
Wolverine and the X-Men #35. Still behind; saving this issue until I'm caught up.

And my trade pickups:

Chew Volumes 2-5. I'm hooked. Went out and bought volumes 2-5. Already finished Vol. 2 and now I'm working my way through 3. :D
Batman: The Killing Joke. Despite knowing what happens in this story, I've never actually read it. Now's my chance.

I don't see how you can see that wall of FE covers and say "nope, not for me"

It looks wondrous!

If you pull DC, you're probably getting books. If you don't, or pull very few, I don't think that will change. But if pre-sells, interest in the books, scalpers on eBay and 2D reorders of the titles are any indication, this is going to be a bit of a blowout month for DC.

Sorry, "pull list", I'm all digital.

I guess my thing is I'm not all that interested in a bunch of one-shots not by the current creative teams, which also disrupt the ongoing stories in the books I am reading.

Come Wednesday, I'll be reading reviews of what does come out, but events like these leave me cold.

Speaking of this week, here's my list of pickups:

All-New X-Men #16
Avengers AI #3
Chew #36
Infinity #2
Invincible #105
Iron Man #15
Superior Foes of Spider-Man #3

The Star Wars #1
Trillium #1
X-Men Battle of the Atom #1

Do you remember the very first LIST of September?

Justice League of America #7.1: Deadshot (I guess that's gonna be some kind of prequel thing to Kindt's Suicide Squad run so gotta grab that)
The Flash #23.1: Grodd
Green Arrow #23.1: Count Vertigo
Superman #23.1: Bizarro (Sholly Fisch Superman stories are a thing I miss and you should too so GET THIS)

Speaking of this week, here's my list of pickups:

I wasn't trying to correct your terminology. Apologies if it seemed that way. No, what I was saying, is that based on the books that you listed, you weren't likely to be interested in the titles, because most people who are a "DC guy/gal", like Marvel guys and gals, are typically going to go in deeper than 1-3 titles.

I buy like 1-3 indie titles but I wouldn't classify myself as an indie guy.

So if you aren't invested in that particular shared universe, the event isn't going to be for you, outside the chance that you are really deep in Batman and want some of his villain tie ins, because those villains are awesome, etc. However, if you are into it, many of the titles actually are a form on continuation or are important to the book in some fashion. Off hand, Relic (for Green Lantern) and Desaad for Worlds' Finest come to mind. The writers of the Lantern titles have specifically said that Relic is going to be important for the Lantern titles in the near future.

That's the best way to do it, i'm probably going digital too just for Villain's Month. In hindsight i probably would have pre-ordered more books from dcbs if i knew they were going to sell for a decent amount on ebay, but OH WELL, the comic world keeps surprising me. I presume it's based on DC saying they weren't going to ship a lot of 3d covers out and people panicked?

I was a bit overwhelmed by what looked like random villain books to buy in pre-ordering.

They hyped the event at a retailer summit. So many retails got on board and sold their customer base on it. DC then went on to under print (or print as much as they could on the special paper that is required for the 3D covers) and not be able to fill the allotments that stores had ordered-slash-based the orders on the initial order retailers will do (sometimes kept at one copy and then adjusted upwards right before the deadline). They also seem to have based allocation on how many of a title the store was selling before. So if you normally sold 50 copies of JLA, they'd give you around 40-50 copies, despite having 100+ presells/preorders/pull lists.

This is the reason for some of the eBay nonsense.

I see Rafael Albuquerque is writing and doing the art for Legends of The Dark Knight this week. Is he doing a whole arc or is it a one shot?

Hi ComicsGAF. I'm a relatively new comics reader and I only get trades at the moment, but this seems like a good place to hang out. Hopefully I'll actually start getting through my ridiculous backlog soon so I can post more here.

Anyway, I've recently been buying up a bunch of Green Lantern trades; I already had Rebirth from a while back but I've decided to go all-in on the Johns era. I bought the trades all the way up to the end of the pre-New 52 (I hope that made sense) and realised that I'd probably enjoy the Green Lantern Corps stories from the same era. The Dark Side Of Green trade (issues #7-13) must be out of print because the cheapest I could find was £35, but I saw some copies going for upwards of £70 which seems crazy. Not that it matters because I went ahead and spent about £100 on Green Lantern Corps from Recharge all the way up to War Of The Green Lanterns Aftermath anyway. They all look great so I'm happy.

Hopefully I can rely on everyone here for purchasing advice in the future!

That's a shame. Had a quick flip through and thought the art style was really interesting.

It made me look up other stuff Jae Lee was doing.

Welcome! Most people here understand that sort of terminology so don't be afraid to throw it around. Green Lanterns certainly did have a phenomenal run. Almost ten years of stories. The current runs are quite good, too, so definitely keep an eye out for them (assuming that you are trade waiting them as well).

Thanks! Yeah I'll definitely be picking them up once I get through the previous stories. I'm interested in GL, GLC and New Guardians, but I'll probably skip Red Lanterns until the current run (Soule, Vitti et al) is collected, whenever that is, and go from there. I really liked Justin Jordan's work on The Strange Talent Of Luther Strode (still waiting on the trade for Legend!) so I'm curious about his New Guardians work.

Speaking of trades, Image seem really good at putting them out quickly. I've been thoroughly spoiled by how fast the Chew trades are released.

Image is good at a lot of things these days. I'd go so far as to say they're my favorite publisher right now. They take risks on a lot of off-the-wall ideas that the big two would never touch, and creators are flocking to them because they can retain the rights to their books.

Sometimes they feel like the delayed comic publisher. Saga's delays make me want to drop it, despite loving it (the most recent issue was quite disappointing after a three month wait), and I'm just waiting for Ten Grand to do the same to me. I'm glad I dropped Jupiter's Legacy after that hot pile that was the first issue. I realize it's not every series, but it has happened to me just enough to sour me. I do appreciate what they are doing though.

A lot of creator owned comics have experienced delays. I don't think it's just an Image thing.

It might be happening slower than I expected, but I do believe there's a shift away from the big 2 happening. Image is really knocking it out of the park right now with a huge variety of quality and innovation. Other companies also have some really good comics. Even if superhero is your biggest preference, there are other quality choices beyond Marvel and DC.

The very reason I trade wait most indie titles. Most of the time they aren't satisfying enough one issue at a time.

Meh I'll take delays once in a while for new, unique stories over the same old shit the Big Two shove out regularly.

For any of those interested in DCBS, I received my first shipment from them.

I've read some of the issues and don't see any wear or tear on them. I will probably continue to use them for the foreseeable future.

DCBS...there's no looking back. Of course since i don't have a comic store near me there is no temptation to buy books weekly again, just dcbs/online vs digital. I am very particular about the quality of my books and on occasion i'll notice a small crease or have some other problem, but dcbs has been very good about fixing the problem.

Image...delays...Mudman.

Mudman isn't even listed on their site anymore :(

We are getting a Multiple Warheads one shot this month though so praise be to Image.

List time~. For 9/4:

Avengers A.I. #3 (This book has been surprisingly fun, so far, and it has a pretty nice cast to play with.)
DC vs. Masters of the Universe #1 (I've yet to read the main MotU title, but with all of the positive buzz about it, I figured that this could be a nice jumping on point.)
Infinity #2 (This has been a pretty great event so far. Dat Hickman black magic.)
The Star Wars #1 (This will either be a fun little what-if story, or a horrid tale that will make me thank God that Lucas never had his way with things entirely. Let's find out. :3)
Superior Spider-Man #17 (Yay, 2099. :D)
X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1 (Reviews have been good, so I'll pick it up and see for myself.)

ermagerd merterple werherds.

One need only gaze upon my list to know my appreciation for indie comic books. They are the best. It's time to open your eyes.

DC

Detective Comics 23.1 Poison Ivy
Trillium #2

Marvel

Superior Foes of Spider-Man #3

Dynamite

Army of Darkness vs Hack/Slash #2 shway
Mocking Dead #1

Sheltered #3 (Image)
God is Dead #1 (Avatar)
Mouse Guard Legends of the Guard vol 2 #2 (Archaia) previous issue was stunning!
Baltimore: The Infernal Train #1 (Dark Horse) All aboard? Come on, guys, read something GOOD this month.

Man, that's really unfortunate. I feel like I don't really notice delays too much because I'm already waiting for the trades, but if I bought single issues I imagine that'd be really frustrating.

Having said that, some trades and hardcovers take ages to come out. The second Flash HC only released last week. I was also wondering why the second Dial H trade was nowhere to be seen, until I realised they were waiting to collect the rest of the series in one book. It's a shame it didn't last longer, but I hope it doesn't deter China Miéville from doing more comics work.

Don't do this to me marvel!

Alonso: It's just part of an ongoing dialog between writer and editor. Sometimes an editor makes a suggestion; sometime it's the writer. Dan had a very good reason to dust off Spider-Man 2099 and bring him back onto the playing field, and it fit into his long-term Spider-Man plans. By the time Dan's worked his magic, who knows -- maybe Spider-Man 2099 could anchor his own monthly series?

DC is by far the worst company at releasing trades in a timely fashion.

Oh fuck

I hate how Marvel is forcing Ultimate Fury like this, totally unnecessary.

I disagree, somewhat. It's always nice to have more non-white characters in mainstream comics, and honestly, the way they could've brought this into the 616 universe could've been a lot more contrived and stupid than it ended up being.

Having read that it'll be interesting to see what they do with Miles. Knowing Bendis either Aunt May is gonna have to raise another kid or Luke Cage better get some adoption papers ready.

I really don't want to imagine an even more hamfisted way of inserting the character into continuity and I'm saying that as someone who really loves Ultimate Nick Fury.

Action Comics #23.1 (Cyborg Superman)
Batman #23.1 (The Joker)
Batman And Robin #23.1 (Two-Face)
Batman The Dark Knight #23.1 (The Ventriloquist)
Detective Comics #23.1 (Poison Ivy)
Earth 2 #15.1 (Desaad)
Flash #23.1 (Grodd)
Forever Evil #1
Green Arrow #23.1 (Count Vertigo)
Green Lantern #23.1 (Relic)
Justice League #23.1 (Darkseid)
Justice League Dark #23.1 (The Creeper)
Justice League Of America #7.1 (Deadshot)
Legends Of The Dark Knight #12
Superman #23.1 (Bizarro)

Cyborg Superman is dope. I like what they have done with him; Out of all the possible ways to change a character, this is how to do it right without seeming forced.

Desaad looks interesting. He is a psychic vampire or something?

"Oh hey, Nick Fury is dead, but he holds a secret that we need to save the Earth! Good thing we have this dimensional portal thing, of which every super villain not named Paste Pot Pete has laying about! Oh, snaps, this universes Fury is black!"

Spider-Men 2 is still coming right? Will be interesting to see how Spock interacts with him.
