This. I haven't been able to login at all today. They need to sort this out. The hardest thing to do in this game so far is getting passed the 1017 boss. And that's when the game can even load the world list.

Wish we could get placed into a queue when trying to log on. I wouldn't care if I was 10,000 in the queue as long as I didn't have to keep trying to connect and relaunching the game. I should never have taken my headphones out. I knew it might knock the sound off but I did it anyway. Fucking sucks.

Yeah, pity warriors instead. Mantra seems powerful enough (10% extra healing for everyone around you for 15secs?), that I'm probably going to have to level pugalist to 42. It's the highest shared skill by far. No idea why they made it level 42.
The boss intros are always cool. I really hope no one gets the bright idea to rush me through em. Of course i'm usually tank anyway

There is also an NPC sitting away from the main group that you can talk to, that will let you leave.

Whoa dude, how did you move the chat window? I can move everything in the HUD options screen except for the chat window. How did you move it into the far bottom left corner? Mine, at any resolution, is about a couple dozen pixels from the corner and it's ugly.
Every 5 levels you get new class/job quests, which reward you with new skills and familiars. Level 15 should be pretty major for ACN playstyle.

Yeah totally, I never had this problem in other MMOs. I'm reloading the client every so often because it's giving me a "cannot load group NA/EU". Been trying to get in on and off for about 3 hours now.
Got the 90000 in Cutter's Cry. Makes me want to cut myself...

After trying for close to four hours last night before I logged in, I'm not even going to try today, especially considering maintenance is tonight anyway so even if I did log in I wouldn't have long to play.
Here's hoping things are improved by tomorrow but, considering they're adding servers but no mention of actually fixing the over-loaded ones, it doesn't inspire much hope.

You'll get the tank pet for completing the level 15 class quest. After that though there's really nothing other than level 20 when you can stack 2 Aetherflows.
Essentially, I hope you like Ruin lol.

I'm about to hit hour Seven of using the autokey macro for login (including moments where I had to restart client), and all I have to show for it is that I've knocked out a few episodes of Luther, and have had some dinner.

I definitely think this depends on whether the traffic's due to the holiday weekend or more and more people resorting to idling rather than logging off and thus invoking Tragedy of the Commons. For whatever it's worth I do think the day the Early Access ran out was marginally better than before... only to go completely insane with the weekend. Though as long as people start (over?) on new servers or better yet transfers are allowed AND we get a real idle timeout then things will probably be much smoother.

I mean, I'm enjoying my class. Kind of wish there was more variety, but it is what it is. Can't you combine multiple classes to become something else?

Sigh, I wish there was a fix for these crashes. I even set my CPU back to stock to make sure it wasn't some odd OC thing, nope didn't help.

At level 30 you can become a Summoner (DPS) or a Scholar (healer). Before that though there isn't much going for it.
When I play Arcanist I usually grab Aero from Conjurer and Thunder from Thaumaturge and just stack dots. But yeah, there isn't all that much variety in Arcanist. I actually prefer to heal on that class than DPS.
I've occsionally had a problem where the mere presence of an installed OC utility caused a couple of things to crash in odd places, even if the utility wasn't actually doing anything.
I was getting that same issue but upgraded to the latest Nvidia beta drivers and it hasn't happened since. If you haven't tried the beta drivers yet I would give that a go.
I'm only level 10 now, maybe I should switch classes.
Actually, can you even switch classes? Or would I have to start over as a new character? And if I do end up going that route, have any recommendations for a class that is a bit more varied and "fun"?
This is completely true and I will find out tomorrow morning. Either way, I am not completely bothered due to focusing on other things. I managed to hop on last night for a bit and do a run on Satasha with a friend and two randoms hanging outside the cave. It was really fun and I want to do more group caves. Final fantasy XI was the last mmo I grouped in and bothered making friends in outside of real life people. Despite this having easy soloing, I am connecting with random strangers and gaining a friends list. Outside of the login issues, it really is the first mmo to captivate me since XI came out.
You can switch classes. In fact I believe level 10 is when you get the ability to do so. Just go to the guild for the class you want and talk to the receptionist. The rest is intuitive from there.
To be perfectly honest if you want variety I feel Arcanist is the right place. In early levels you can DPS, Tank, and heal adequately and at least for right now Arcanist is the only class that branches off into two jobs. One being a DPS (Summoner) and the other healer (Scholar). So there is your variety.
You can become any class on the same character. The primary reason to have an extra character is to be a different race.

After level 10 and doing the level 10 class quest you can change to any class you want by applying at the specific class guilds in the three cities. You can do everything on one character, aside from the first main story missions (which don't change that much and ultimately join together to one big storyline).
You could try leveling Thaumaturge in Ul'dah and Conjurer in Gridania, and then you can equip some skills from those classes on Arcanist and vice versa ... practically building yourself some nice setups. Especially Conjurer is recommended for better healing abilities and Protect and stuff.
I you feel comfortable doing ranged damage after starting as an Arcanist, level Archer a bit.
All the classes are boring until they get more of their toolkit rolled out in later levels.
The login restrictions are so tight because of the duty finder queue putting a lot of strain on the game servers. More servers allows them to splinter the duty finder server off and they can ease up on the restrictions across the board.
