Or, an item that drastically speeds up Mounts temporarily. Like, I dunno, Rapid Radish, doubles speed of mount for 5 minutes.

pretty much. i don't need my chocobo to tank. i need it to nitro.

and to fly.

Is there guild housing yet? Would be a damn shame if it isn't a guild airship.

Fates are excellent and my favourite thing to do. You actually get to experience a quest with others, as I usually just solo the quests and pug for instances as I don't have friends who play this.

How long is the cast time?

Also, it's still not really on the healer since we have no stuns (unless Thunder works in this situation) and the only WHM ability with stun is Holy.

Final Sting's cast time is pretty long, about 5 seconds maybe? Plenty of time to stun. Even if we focused on the bees in the trash pulls in there, even going all out we couldn't kill both two bees before one would Final Sting. The ones that spawn during the boss fight have less HP but you have to move around a lot more in there. Yes, the DPS need to focus on the bees, but the tank needs to be ready to stun as well.

game needs faster mounts.

wheres my knights of the round chocobo.

I want a ride-able transforming Arc mount (that you get from fighting him, because whats better than a giant transformer from another planet that is now under your control? Also considering it's flight from its home planet to merking little Yans, it should be a pretty fast mount. Not to mention that he could be a magitek creation, so they could work it into the plot.... aww who am I kidding. We will never see that summon anywhere again ).

Is there a way to check where the next story quest npc is? I was too low at that st. Something Church and now I forgot what zone it's in.

Ah, good to hear you're enjoying the game.

Got your PS3 issues sorted out afterwards? :)

That's pretty forgiving if the cast time is that long. For PLD/GLA you have stun every 2.5 seconds and you can hold your stun on MRD/WAR just for that attack and have it up before the next group comes in. Do tanks get another stun in later levels to help mitigate attacks?

It should be in Drybone, though I'm not sure which NPC you should talk to around there. He's most likely either inside the church there or right outside. Check your map as well to see if there is a story quest marker in the area.

I'm thinking of running my first dungeon as DPS instead of tank, simply because I worry about the responsibility of being the tank, when it's likely the other people in the party aren't familiar with the dynamics. I think it'll just be too much hard work :v

I've done the first two as a tank WITH the controller. You should be fine.

No, but MNK and DRG both have stuns and should use them on things like this (if high enough level to have them).

is there really any reason to do low level dungeons unless required? Seems like an utter waste of time. most are boring... and loot and exp is crap.

I guess you are quite limited on stuff to do on your 2nd/3rd classes...

kinda wish there was an item that lets you reset all sidequests.

You can get the achievement to fully explore the area.

That's...something? :(

you get that on your first time though lol.

What are achievement points for anyways?

Are there titles or w/e with stat boosts in this game?

Not really a fan of how the game has tutorials for only like 60% of the stuff...

And random tutorial on a quest gimmick when i had a quest with this gimmick 20 levels ago.

You get bonus experience for running it with someone new, you can get decent experience per kill for your level, and I think you also get bonus experience for running one with a new class/job. I'd have to check about the last one, but I did get like an additional 2k xp and 200gil for running Ifrit last night on my THM.

Casual tanking observations as a lv50 WAR who runs dungeons nearly exclusively with pugs and some friends here and there (haven't finished story yet, and dungeon wise, finished up through Darkhold, haven't attempted Vale; have yet to do the first 8-man trial. I guess being in a FC would help with getting quicker runs set up without being pug shy, :X). Experience: Paladin tank in WoW, 25-man Sinestra just before I quit.

- Made it to lv50 without knowing I could take Provoke as a cross class skill. Frankly, I'm surprised WAR doesn't have an equivalent skill. I suppose it would have been useful, but nothing bad has happened without it yet.

- Some PUG healers seem to really, really hate AoE tanking. I assume they really don't like using their mana, or stressing over using too much of it? I'd much prefer having control over mobs through tanking than having to CC a ticking time bomb. I'm rarely in danger of dying, and the few times I am, it's at the first pull of a dungeon where it appears the healer choked from the big damage spike. I've since rectified this by communicating better at the start of every run, and asking if the healers prefer sleeping or AoE tanking (no surprise, they prefer CC; I find it a snoozefest, but can't argue with making it easier on everyone involved, :-/ )

- BRD and WHM produce the most threat. BLM are a distant third, unless they get some lucky crits. Every other DD class doesn't register. Yes, I know this is a terrible generalization, and I also know that this all changes with a core group of players who you're comfortable with or know what they are doing, but this is my experience from running with pugs. A single BRD can rack up so much threat that I won't have time to get a Maim > Storm's (whichever) off. Nobody waits for sunders anymore, ha.

- Really dislike the Heavy Swing starter on every combo, and it's the one thing I have to plan around on every pull. Tomahawk > Flash > Overpower (if I can sneak one in before all the CC) is just barely enough to keep a BRD off the first target. Heavy Swing just feels like a waste of time, especially when breaking CC targets. Better hope the rotation lands on Skull Sunder or Butcher's Block, otherwise I'm wasting TP on a measly Tomahawk, :-/

- Not sure why beginner guides talk up the Bloodbath ability (25% of damage done is returned as health). It's pretty terrible and useless as a tank, as it doesn't heal enough to make an appreciable change in my health before a healer's Cure or Cure II overtakes it. Have to pair it with Unchained or Berserk and do a full three-hit combo just to make up for half an attack from a boss.

- Off GCD stun is great. The 30 second cooldown is not, and makes the stun kind of a joke. If it can't be used consistently, then I can't rely on it, which then makes it a moot point on whether or not I use it.

Will probably get to 50 Paladin as well just to have experience with both before I commit to Darklight gear. I'm expecting Paladin to greatly outshine Warrior at end-game though, as the benefits of Warrior tanking don't really hold up well. AoE tanking is pointless if most classes don't have AoE damage (besides having better control over the mobs, but like I said above, I'm sure most groups will prefer CC). More health doesn't mean much when it's not paired with better defenses. Haven't done the math, but I'd wager Paladins have greater Effective Health which is what matters in the end.

All that being said, I much prefer playing MRD over GLA; it's just more...fun?

Somehow I managed to not get it in Satasha. It looks like I'll be getting it on my Archer when I level him up for Black Mage.

As for Achievements, yeah they're pretty meaningless outside of a few that supposedly grant you certain titles, vanity items, etc. Achievements, in general, I can take or leave, although for MMO's I find myself drawn to them more than console games [since I tend to spend more time with MMO's, and thus, run out of things to do in-game until new content is added].

Can anyone comment on the Chocobo skill tree? Can you fill out all skills eventually? Or do you have to pick/choose?

Beats me lol. Got my chocobo and was like "yeah, ok, whatever." I'll care when I can have my path companion from 1.x back, or let my goobbue be a companion at least. I don't care about a smelly bird. Plus, ain't nobody got time for levelin' chocobo, especially since you can't get on a mount while it's summoned.

People think the FFXIV world is small? Really?

Maybe it's because I don't constantly spam teleports, but the world seems pretty big to me. I don't understand how making it larger would make it better.

I don't think you can reset the tree currently which is a problem, I think. The other issue is that you won't have enough to fill more than one tree. I've been doing Healer as a result as that it seemed to be the most useful overall. I hope there's a way to reset it though.

I'm hoping they either implement breeding, or more companions.

Glad someone screencapped this for pugsterity.

For some reason I can't find any info on the Arcanist guild. I think it's located in Limsa Lominsa. Some sites showed it in the lower Decks of the city, but I'm not finding it on my map. Strangely, Arcanists guild is the only guild that doesn't have its own page on the FAQs/Wiki, or any of the sites that show the guild locations.

Is it not a full guild? Should I be joining something else anyways? (Currently level 13).

EDIT: Nevermind found it. Like an idiot, I was on the wrong level. Got turned around. Still curious about the above stuff though.

holy shit at the Temple of Qarn. Talk about a bump in difficulty. I ended getting a time out on the last boss with a duty party.

I don't think its small.

Compared to some other MMOs it certainly isn't 'big' though. One you get around lvl 30 and have a grasp of where everything is and how its all connected it definitely seems that the change of perspective catches some people. I like how its all connected personally. It flows.

I cannot play as my copy is still in transit i think. Its been like that for does I think SE is having the post office ship it by boat which well take for ever to get to Hawaii.

I am so expecting a longer maintenance duration than what they officially announced.

Well an earlier maintenance actually ended a couple of hours early, so anything could happen!

I'll probably not try and log in until a couple of hours after, because there'll still be some congestion from everyone trying to get in.

I liked the Sunken Temple, if only because the first boss is a wake-up call for party communication. No brute forcing through that in silence! Compared to Longstop before that though, yep, especially between the final bosses, there's a jump.
