Today was the first time I played with a bad tank at Halatali. You know that lizard in the water that does lightning attacks? Don't go in it, I said.

"Tank rushes to the water*

Lure it up here, yo >_<
Heh, I remembered that, warned the other players to stay at the ramp when it heads towards the center, only for the Lalafell DPS (arcanist?) To head to the center AWAY from the ramp and get himself killed. Come to think of it, he died at the boss too.

Noice. What level do you even get a mount? I'm guessing a chocobo is first.

Yeah, you get a chocobo at around level 20. You can ride a rental chocobo at level 10, though. You need to join a grand company (lvl20ish) by progressing the main story, farming 2000 seals, and buy a chocobo from the quartermaster.

Downed Ifrit (hard) just before maintenance. It was intense!

On a random note, got my GSM to 50.

In your opinion, what is the best way to level trades, leve quests? Grinding mats that you can sell (crafting components)? Doing all the recipes once for the extra exp?

I've been trying to figure out the best way, and am running out of money lol

Just got kicked off, it was great experiencing the end of the server with you guys. It's a true shame that the server's didn't stay up longer.

In-game name: Basch Ronsenberg.

The earliest you can get a Chocobo and your rider's license (which lets you use any other mounts) is 20, but most people seem to get it around 22-24 because it has a story event as a prerequisite.

Am I the only one that loved this about XI? /Masochist

Me.

I made finding things like weird NMs and other little secrets feel extra special because you, they actually were secrets you had to find. Plus I don't really follow the philosophy that every single part of the map has to be populated with "exciting" content. Some times a road is just a road.

That's where I ended my play time last night. Got to level 23 and just started doing leve quests to get seals. It's gonna take awhile to build up 2000, though. But I gotta get my Chocobo.

Doing trade levels, handing in HQ items gives you a fuck ton of extra experience (you get 200% bonus on top of the experience you get for completing it) it really helps from my experience

Sweet just got home and finally have a night to play FFXIV!! Gonna pull an all nighter the second I get on!!
Just kidding, but I really hope this update addresses some of the server capacity issues. I doubt it would address most of it though :(

I was considering adding a poll, but I decided against it because it'll remain there forever (can't remove it).

Can't you put a cut off date on the poll so you cant vote after a day or something?

Either way, this thread will be done in a few weeks anyways. We can always SS it in 10 hours for posterity.

It's a bit faster to get to 2k seals through FATEs in my experience, but it shouldn't take that long as long as you're working toward it.

Lol 3 min away from maintenance, we began the Svara boss fate and it was bonkers. We only pared off 1/4th of its health before the time, so I actually abandoned the fight and ported back to Dragonhead for sanctuary. In the end I waited out the end of the boss, got silver and 10k exp anyway XD I feel sorry for abandoning those guys.

I had more trouble telling people to not attack the fucking lizard when it had blaze armor up. Tank proceeds to attack repeatedly until dead. =/

While leves do give a crapload of EXP, I suggest you save them for your gathering classes.

Crafting will result in 3-6k EXP per synth, whereas a gathering node could give 0 exp. I went from 40 to 50 GSM in a few hours just synthesizing the same item over and over again. It was really quick and easy.

My Miner is 43 and crawling along. My suggestion for DoL classes is to do leves and use GC exp manuals to make things go faster. The GC manuals are also available for crafting professions but I don't really think it's necessary.

Yes, but the poll and the results will be there forever. It's kind of a distraction.

Agreed, it made the game feel like a real world that had some uncharted parts.
I was worried that XIV had become one of those MMORPG where you're given a bunch of quests in one area (and thus explore every inch of it) and then you get the quest at the end there which sends you off to the next zone only for you to rinse and repeat this process - which makes the game feel like a game, like there's nothing for you to discover yourself. But after the early (pre 10) quests it seems to be deviating from that cycle somewhat, which is good to see.

Yeah, XI really gave you a feeling of having a home town and neighborhood, because it took so long to explore out from town, and the leveling/partying system and delayed access to fast travel meant that your leveling would slowly move you out further from town. When I hear Bastok's music, and the wilderness music around it, it really takes me home.

FATEs and hunting logs are typically faster and you don't have to spend your allowances. Even around level 20 you should be getting around 100+ seals per FATE which doesn't seem like much on its own but considering how great they are for gaining experience it definitely adds up especially in areas where there are 5-6 FATEs that spawn close together.

Also if you have any gathering or crafting jobs unlocked, make sure you do the supply and provisioning missions every day. Those are probably the easiest source of seals, especially if you can get HQ items to turn in. Plus they give quite a bit of experience too.

Honestly, I feel the same way about Ul'dah and Thanalan.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't really have an interest in the gathering aspect, is it required for the crafting? So far I've just been buying materials.

I should also mention that I'm not level 50, I've just been crafting while waiting for duty finder (dat dps).

I really like the crafting.

Bastok's music always reminded me "Hey, you're getting close to Bastok, isn't there anywhere else you could be right now to get away from this dump?"

WINDURST HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES!

Guildhests give an EXP bonus for not dying/little deaths, is this not the same for dungeons then?

Honestly, dungeons just seem way more exciting (new locations/cutscenes/lots of loot/lots of challenge) than FATEs, which are usually just brainless spamfests in the field.
The latter might offer more convenience for getting EXP fast, but I'd rather go slow and steady and really enjoy dungeon running.

Agreed. I'm one who enjoyed the party elements in XI so I really enjoy the dungeons. FATE spamming is the worst. I'm sure the developers didn't intend for so many people to just train FATEs but instead to do them while you're doing other things (quests, hunting log, etc.). Coerthas Central Highlands being the biggest offender.. its too easy NOT to do a FATE train there.

I really like the crafting.

If you can fund your craft with just gil then more power to you. Leves will indeed give you a ton of EXP.

Coerthas has a lot of issues with pacing. There's a lot of gaps in the questing and progression of the zone that leave you with little to do there to get EXP. With the high number of FATEs that happen there it almost seems intentional.

Still salty about being called "Lastock" everytime conquest results rolled around.

I'm really impressed by how pretty Thanalan actually is. I got the impression it would seem quite baron and dull before I had the chance to visit. I'm leveling THM there now, having lots of fun, and I can't stop taking screenshots.
