GTA V has gone gold.

Birmingham?!?!?

Not to far but for obvious reasons he doesn't deal with fresh faces or over the phone & as I posted yesterday he reckons this launch is locked up tighter than a ducks arse meaning up to now no sign of early release, which he can't remember the last time he didn't have a title early.

Just gotta wait for the txt.

Haha reminds me of when I was living in Leicester and used to get games and DVDs weeks before they were released from the likes of Another World and such. Getting Vice City that early was fucking awesome at the time.

I have never been lucky enough to receive a game early. Being in the midwest US sucks for the early releases, or having the local "mom and pop" stores release them.

We know the shape, we know the locations, we know how locate almost every location. Rockstar revealed 2/3 of the map, including Los Santos and the North, via the blueprint map.

You should go read some pages of this topic.

And, if nothing else, the basic outline is shown in an achievement picture.

The almighty chicken nugget with feet.

It's strange- earlier years, I would've went wild trying to find it early, hooking up with a connect that used to sell games in the Mall Parking Lot.

I think I'm getting old. I'm looking forward to getting out to GameStop early, chatting with other Midnight launch devotees, and preparing for the madness of that night.

How does the PSN preorder work for this game? I'm on the East Coast, and I don't really want to have to stay up until 3am to start the download. I don't care so much about playing when the clock strikes 12, but I'd like the game to be ready for me in the morning. If I just leave my PS3 on all night, will the game start automatically downloading once the file goes live, or will I need to get up in the middle of the night to add it to my queue?

Me neither, but I've played enough games to know that the feeling of needing to get the game early is just that. Once you're playing the game, it's all good and I have never regretted having a game on time. I've learned to just be patient, having the game early does not buy much in the grand scheme of things, does it. but a couple of extra days of playing a game that you'll play for years.

Do you have PS+? I'm not sure how PSN pre-orders work (this will be my first, as well) but, I'm going to set mine to automatically update overnight, in the case that it goes live at midnight.

15 minutes until new GTAO preview and most definitely new screenshots!

I was down in one of the main electronics stores in Denmark and asked the worker there if it would be available on release day without a preorder.

He said yeah. Depending on what console you play on.

I told him PS3 he said: Yeah sure you'll find lots.

OH SNAP BOMBA PREORDER CANCELLED

I do. As long as GTA gets added to my download queue once it goes live then all should be good. I'm just asking if it will do that, or if I'll need to go into the store once the file goes live and add it to the queue myself. I do not want to wake up on the 17th to find that there's still an 18gb download and 8gb install separating me from GTA V.

Some surprises, yes. But no big surprises such as big hidden cities/islands.

Yep we knew the outline since the Los Santos blueprint reveal + the gameplay trailer.

Would love for things to go back to that age, publishers are a lot more vigilant now.

I had no idea there were cinemas in the game. One of my favorite parts on GTA4 was going to watch the comedians in the clubs. Cinemas with full length movies will be awesome.

Not sure if you'll get full length movies. Probably something closer to RDR, which were pretty funny.

Yeah, hella lackluster.

Yep. Even Gaf barely changed. The thread about it is like 2 pages. At every other major reveal, it'd be blowing up with new posts every second.

I posted this in the oher thread:

Couple tidbits --
  • We've known you need to deposit cash to an ATM to secure it, but we didn't know that you can pay for purchases with a debit card. So you don't need to visit the ATM to go make a purchase, and hence, endanger your money.
  • After finishing a mission, your crew votes on what mission to do next from a playlist -- or jump into free roam.
  • Missions can range from 2 players up to 16. But, from what we had seen previously, there are solo missions available in Online as well.
  • This demo was being played on the Xbox 360

Red Dead had a cinema as well but since back then many films were very short, R* didn't have to do much. I wonder if this they really did do like an hour or at the very least 30 minute film from the GTA V world.

I think this is the first we've heard about having movies in the game (or did they say during the previews that you can see some of the old Vinewood movies that inspire Michael?)

I was thinking there might be five to ten 5 minute films that spoof real movies that have come out recently. Would be great if it was like that.

This was the first mention we heard of movies and confirmed doing drugs in Online (with game altering effects).

Was really interested to hear about XP, more details on vehicle/property ownership, information about the character creator, and so on. But those will probably just have to wait.

So close to this game... probably shouldn't expect much. Can't wait for the OT.

Anyone who expected a ground breaking IGN hands-on with tons of new detailed information and facts whether the 360 or PS3 is the superior version does not know what a hands-on is basically all about. Of course, IGN is full of hyperbole and they are the last you should take seriously, but they give their own view of the game without almost saying anything informative. They can not go and bash either one of the versions for a poor framerate if they have been invited by Rockstar. That is like opening all the presents on a birthday party, except you are not the one who's birthday they are celebrating.

PSA for anyone preordering through PSN. I just chatted with a customer service rep who told me that the download must be started manually once the file goes live, even with PS+. Wether or not this is just a case of a misinformed customer service rep is unknown, but I'm not going to take any chances. Guess I'm off to preorder a physical copy.

I think people were just expecting more information than what we got a month or 2 ago with the GTA Online reveal and GTA Online previews. I'm not looking for tear downs or criticism of the game or for FPS battles, but obvious things like "how do you create a character" or "how do you purchase property." These were questions from day 1 of GTA Online... and for an exclusive preview, IGN covered almost nothing that wasn't already in the reveal a month or two back.

Sure, it's IGN.

But, sure, this is gaf, we can criticize IGN as well.

So I have to be awake at 12 and go to the PSN store and download it?

If so that's fine.

Rockstar gave a statement on this a few months ago. They feel that gamers in general should play their game without knowing every little detail, whether that is property purchasing, character creation or more side activities. They encourage the gamer to find out everything on their own, so if they would allow IGN to write a hands-on by explaining the details you want, it would totally contradict themselves. I know how you feel and I agree with you in certain ways but the sense of stepping into the game without knowing the majority of it is definitely something more developers should revert back to.

It's supposed to go live at 12 PST. If you're on the west coast then yeah, this isn't a big deal. Unfortunately, I'm not, and staying up until 3am so that I can start downloading something that everyone else in my timezone got to start playing 3 hours ago is not something I'm interested in.
