Random Person's Tumblr says anonymous Sega Rep says Yakuza 5 is never happening

I just don't understand why this has been a PS only series. They could have sold more if it was a multi platform series. What's with this desire to keep a game on one platform if you're a third party? Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

So no yakuza ishin for west too?

Ishin is even more niche than Y5, I highly doubt it. I don't think they'll ever localize another Yakuza spinoff game after the DS flop

And yet theres a fanbase for shit like this:

Fuck SEGA.

Incompetence. Incompetence everywhere.

No it wouldn't have.
It's a Japanese only series, and always have been.
We were lucky to get 5 of these games, especially after the first 2.

I've never been particularly loyal to this series, but I've picked up every one once they hit $20 new. I play for a few hours, enjoy it for what it is, and then find myself playing other games in short order. Still, it's a shame I won't get to continue this once inevitable ritual.

I blame Dead Souls. I love this series and was still on the fence about buying that game so it's not surprising that it was a sales disaster.

It's a game heavily focused on japanese culture, a country where the other consoles are not that popular (Xbox is dead and there isn't enough Wii Us in the market yet) and honestly I'm not sure if the western Xbox audience'll dig a game like this one.

How about the localization costs for a Miku game are a tiny percentage of a Yakuza game, especially given Yakuza 5 is reported to have double the content of a typical Yakuza game.

How about its because I'm calling SEGA out on their BS. If they said that I would have bought it but that was clearly not the reason the rep gave.

I know Miku has a massive fanbase even in the West. I didn't know the games had a bigger fan base in the West than Yakuza.

Well this is a kick in the nuts. I only really got into these games when I bought a PS3 last year and picked up 3&4 used. I liked them so much I even bought that awful zombie game new. Why not do what more companies are doing and make it digital? I'd still buy it just like the OP games. Then you can release it NA and EU, although you'd probably want a few more language options for Europe.

I beg to differ. 360 has a huge installed base here and that's a lot of potential customers.

How different is the American PS3 owner and the American 360 owner in terms of tastes?

I know 360 is dead in the water in Japan but its not here and that's just cause to port it to 360.

Put your money where your mouth is, people. Nothing is stopping you from using Twitter or trying to start a Kickstarter.

Money talks and Yakuza sells like shit.

This same shit happens with every Yakuza release. First it comes out in japan people over here are like gimme gimme. Sega says "no cant localize not enough sales". Fans get loud and outraged, bug sega and petition until Sega gets fooled into thinking there is demand.

Game gets localized and comes out... bombs. Sega says never again then the next yakuza comes out.

"How dare Sega not want to burn money for no benefit to themselves! How can they possibly know that Yakuza games don't sell in the west when they've only localized five of them before? Fuck Sega for clearly not giving a shit even though there are obviously enough people there who give a shit that they localized fucking Dead Souls."

did you mean "instead of maintaining a fanbase and being happy with smaller consistent profits, throw fanbases under a bus and desperately seek the budbruh money with a shittacular aliens game that cost more than localising every game they made for the last 3 generations and lets act like that's a sensible profitable business move"

Sega approached all the console manufacturers with the first game, only Sony was interested. I don't know if that means Sega was looking for an exclusivity deal or what.

I could make an argument that Ishin is more likely than Y5, not less. It's almost certainly a smaller game (less dialogue to translate), is going to look better, and will be on a far less crowded console. Still probably won't get localized though.

guys, my game won't come out so instead i'll hate on a different game because they are doing well.

Am I doing it right?

Can we stop this flamebait shit? God stop bitching about another game.

Well, you shouldn't compare Miku to Yakuza when Sega actually tries to advertise the former.
I don't think they've done anything for Yakuza since the first PS2 game. How do they expect the game to be successful in the west if they don't give a fuck? They should let Sony handle the game outside Japan.

Rip sega

Won't ever buy another game of yours after buying Yakuza 1-4, and even Dead Souls because I was afraid of this

Over 1.3 million people bought Aliens: Colonial Marines. How many copies do you think Yakuza 4 sold?

The amount of rage in this topic is kind of weird. It's a series that has a boatload of text to translate and that doesn't sell very well even compared to other niche games. There's no reason to blame Miku or come up with some other stupid conspiracy as to why they aren't localizing Y5.

We all know that Sega can't make money on their niche Japanese games.

But they need to shit or get off the pot and let a company like Xseed take a shot at it. There's money to be made here, and probably even with Valkyria Chronicles 3, but Sega is too stubborn to let one of their IPs leave the stable.

Ok, guys. Enough about Miku.

I tweeted Gio Corsi about it. I know there's like a 1% chance that does anything, but, maybe it'll plant a seed.

Should have never brought over that piece of shit dead souls game ugh...I knew the moment they announced it was coming that it would do nothing but harm

The Miku game fanbase is bigger than the Yakuza west fanbase? A crowd at a gaming expo doesn't mean much.
Well...maybe? Don't know if it's bigger, but they clearly make more money off of it. Otherwise Sega wouldn't keep bringing the games over.

I see a lot of people here angry at Sega and the Project Diva games, but what would you do in their position? They're either not making enough money to make the effort worth it or maybe even losing money on Yakuza in the west. You can't put all the blame on them for the game not being popular over here. Although, I personally think there's no reason the game shouldn't be able to succeed with the right marketing, but that's just me.

A Yakuza game for Xbox would sell like 10k in Japan and 5k in the West. Or something like that.

By the way, this proves that skipping a game because "it's about zombies" or because it's Eng dub only is a very, very bad idea that sends the wrong message. At the end Sega or KT are a bussiness and if a franchise that sells 20k drops to 15 or 10k, well, that's that.

Being a niche-franchises lover means you need to be ready to endure some sacrifices. It shouldn't be that way but this is how it works.

Well, you shouldn't compare Miku to Yakuza when Sega actually tries to advertise the former.

Sony skipped Demon's Souls because they thought it wasn't sellable. They're not going to touch a franchise whose last entry sold 6k in the first month. Hell, even Atlus wouldn't. And XSeed wouldn't take the risk either, this is another Trails in the Sky situation: huuuuuuuuuuuge script, and very low chances to make a profit.

Welp I guess it time for me to see Sega as a Sonic game only.

Who do we Twitter bomb to make this happen?

Try Sega twitter account and maybe Sony so that they can pick up the cost of localising it.

Japanese is not that hard, just learn it. Only took me ten years.

I can barely speak English, which is first and only language, let alone learning a new language.

Though I am pretty sure that I could somehow learn it if I try. :|

So does ps3.
.

Yes internationally PS3 edges out 360, but thats not the case here in North America. Not even close. The 360 base is too large in America to ignore and they passed on potential sales for the Yakuza series by keeping it platform exclusive.

Sega approached all the console manufacturers with the first game, only Sony was interested. I don't know if that means Sega was looking for an exclusivity deal or what.

That certainly changes everything. That's too bad.

Aaaaand this is why I always support my favorite game series by buying new.

Source: http://yakuzafan.com/post/60266209467/jujujuli-while-i-was-at-pax-this-past-weekend-i

What has buying new got to do with it? Yazuza is niche series with a higher than average cost when it comes to localization. Something like 70% of is dialogue and text.

The fact is the cost of localisation and general publishing is higher than sales, even if the game was digital only. If it was just a used games issue, we would never see a Final fantasty release.

Yakuza thread! Control F "Irish Ninja" not found! come on Yakuza needs your help :D

Not like they wasted money on a experiment lately on WiiU port...ohhhh

Release digital to reduce costs heck even release the HD collection to create a larger fanbase you already got the subs for it done.

I think digital is the only way that a lot of Japanese games will come to the west due to high costs.

Wow... that sucks for the rest of you. One of my favorite Yakuza games. The story was freaking amazing.

Those wanting to play the game should import it. I did and I don't regret it one bit. Especially knowing now, officially, that it won't be localized. It's not hard to play through and going by the little Japanese that I do know, and the cutscenes, I understood a good chunk of the story.

Now I can't wait to import Ishin! :D

i expected the "DD future" to fix this shit. whatever sega, yakuza and valkyria are the only sega games i would play. guess more money for me.

Never mind the fact everyone is taking the thread at face value without even confirming with Sega that this is actually their position. For all we know the thread creator could have mistaken a disgruntled fan for a Sega employee.

The Miku game fanbase is bigger than the Yakuza west fanbase? A crowd at a gaming expo doesn't mean much.

Maybe not, but I think it is significant the game drew a crowd this size when PS4 and Xbox One demos were just twenty feet away.
