New Castlevania Still Happening, says VGC

You embedded the wrong tweet in your haste to be the first one to post this thread. Those of us without twitter can't see Robinson's reply.

I think this is the most difficult franchise for them to land a win on.

If they go classic 2D or 2.5D then it won't have mass appeal sales. It would likely please fans of the franchise the most though.

If they go 3D it will be in a weird place because something like a lords of shadow wouldn't fly in this day and age.

I know there's major souls like fatigue on this board but I do think that's the best bet for a new castlevania. Think Bloodborne with castlevania monsters, and a deep interconnected world with shortcuts back to earlier areas etc. Dodge and parry system, weapons to upgrade, various builds if you're more of a whip guy or more of a chain guy etc.

The other formula that stands a chance is a 3D game for cut scenes, epic visuals etc, but all the gameplay is still 2.5D. Potential middle ground.

I would NOT suggest a symphony of the night remaster or remake. Too many diehards will rip it apart…

Lords of Shadows 3 please!
Mercury steams latest game makes me 100% not want this unless a completely different studio with talent touched it.

Maybe the guys at NinjaTheory would want to finally expand their gameplay of DMC, but with their current visual offering. I think Hellblade 2 is a turd but the studio has talent… they just need to funnel it into a more action packed formula.

Agreed. Maybe make the combat more unique, but having a similar to Bloodborne level layout and progression. I'd buy it for sure.

The souls-like oversaturation would make that a hard sell anywhere. Nobody wants a 2.5D Castlevania. 🤮

Didn't like 4+ new souls-likes get announced at summer game fest? The last thing I want is another one in a castlevania skin. Wish they'd just license it out to Igarashi. Let's be honest, that's what everyone really wants.

I would love another LoS but after 2, and with the current Mercury Steam, ehh...

Bloodstained scratches an itch but I really love the characters and lore of Castlevania; it's just not the same, and I personally find Bloodstained's art direction to be garish.

A LoS 3 more similar to the first game would be welcome. The second LoS is a very, very disappointing game.
And that's exactly why they should abandon the LoS line of Castlevania and start something brand new. It has been tainted with two mediocre sequels.

As much as people like to rail on soulslikes, my SGF indie roundup threads barely had a handful of them this year. The popular thing continued to be roguelike, and a new spike in popularity when it came to the horror genre.

Maybe just increase the resolution and franrate.

Don't do an AI gloss-over like that Final Fantasy Tactics 'remaster'. That looks terrible.

The question is if they outsource this project as well (and if so, to whom) or if they gonna do it in-house.
