Microsoft Is So Sorry About How It's Treated Xbox One Fans So Far

My guess is that the whole Adam Orth thing didn't phase them much because they didn't see the whole 24 hours requirement being the same as "always online," or all the restrictions as DRM when they still allowed (sharply limited) resales and the like. I think they genuinely believed there was nothing wrong with their approach, and that assuming they were being dishonest actually gives them too much credit.

That frightens me.

Yep. I still say Orth's arrogance in that whole thing was organizationally influenced. That's more than likely how microsoft's private face was; the fact that they were appalled when he showed it publicly just makes me realize how "two-faced," as others have said, MS was being.

He was surprised at the response because that's probably how they had all been talking internally for a while. Oh well ... Live and learn. I'll more than likely pick up a One, but it will be years down the road, after I see how MS has handled it.

The initial reveal still stuns me in that they thought their primary audience would be the most interested in TV functions. I watched it all on mute at work but all I can remember are images of Nfl and a middle aged woman talking about tv features. It felt like an informercial you would see on Sunday afternoon on a channel you flip over... Definitely the worse console reveal I can think of.

Hryb said he'll embark on a cross-country tour this month, making stops in U.S. cities to similarly assuage concerns about the next-gen console — just like he did at last week's GameStop Expo.

Those pre-order numbers and surveys must really be nowhere near where Microsoft want them to be. That's the only sort of feedback they understand.

You mean when they said they'd like to bring back the GOOD policies that they proposed???

I'm sure this has already been stated, but since when did Microsoft admit any of their policies were bad? They only ever said the messaging was bad.

So yeah, those "good" policies are, to them, all of their old policies.

Microsoft is essentially saying "We're so sorry that you just don't get how good it would have been", still not understanding why their new takes on shit was awful, but instead saying "well, FINE, obviously you're not ready for it. Excuuuse me, Princess!"

Staying far away from this console.

Wow, pre orders must be dire if they have to go touring the country at this point in the consoles lifetime.

I can't believe how much they have spectacularly fucked this launch up. They currently make the Sony execs who launched the PS3 look like pr geniuses.

They only had to make a price focused faster 360 and they would have won. They completely lost the plot.

Larry is not even a gamer. Please.

I have no issue with anyone hating MS/Xbox after the crap they have pulled but this is just outright lying. He constantly talks about games on his podcast and even invites people on to his Battlefield server.

I was thinking similarly. I find it hard to be believe they would be doing this if they were content with pre-order numbers thus far. If pre-orders numbers in their strongest territory from the latter half of this generation aren't too good, it really doesn't bode too well for other territories that didn't support and buy the Xbox 360 as heavily this generation.

Microsoft managed to piss away the small amount of good will I have towards them. I will only be too happy to boycott the Xbox One.

Larry Hryb is PR poison to me after that incredibly arrogant E3 and the incredible Angry Joe turnaround he will literally never live down. Its like, just look at this fucking empty spinshit:

"We're very focused on what is right for gamers. Everybody at Xbox is a gamer. It's not like we just show up, do our work and go home. We want to make this the best game system that you are going to own for the next 10 years."

- You weren't so you're only focussed now because it hit your bottom line.
- I can almost assure you there will people that barely game outside of smartphones in all halls of Xbox.
- Other than Kinect's as of yet to be proved worth, they've failed to make the best gaming box.

But then articles praise him for taking 30 minutes of Q+A as if it was like Xbox Jesus descending from heaven and breaking bread. 3:1 PS4 is outpacing Xbone in preorders. Half an hour of work isn't something I consider fucking news or praiseworthy.

For me personally, I've seen the Xbox dance twice too many times. Bustling outreach to my interests in Year One, maybe two, then they shut studios, kill off alliances, chase the casual.

I actually liked Halo enough to buy an Xbox 180 but their attitude towards gamers for not accepting their bullshit just completely turned me off.

That and the fact that they've shown they have no interest in exclusives outside of Halo/Gears/Fable/Forza. They would rather pay for 6 month exclusivity (while also still releasing on PC) instead of funding true exclusives.

Yup, I rather have the old system.

Wtf, really? There are people out thare that liked the DRMBox?

I thought they were just being facetious with those silly remarks...

"We're very focused on what is right for gamers."

Ah, that is why they are forcing a abysmal 1,4TFLOP machine (which is not really enough for the next 1-2 years) with a build in TV Tuner and a fucking voice command gimmick on us. Because that's what gamers wanted.

What a blatant lie.

Wow, pre orders must be dire if they have to go touring the country at this point in the consoles lifetime.

And this is in the US, where the Xbox brand is king. Launch numbers will be fun.

Still can't believe they need an apology tour to sell an Xbox to Americans, lol

They were caught off guard with Sony launching their console this year instead of next so they had to do something to differentiate themselves from Sony and they thought 8GB of ram (Sony matched that unknowingly to all) and the Kinect/TV features. This is all obvious by the Wired video interview when the girl says they had only been working on the tv/snap features for 7 months at that point.

Hyperbole much? Sold out pre-orders in almost every major chain flies in the face of what you wrote. Ever think they are doing an apology tour simply because they want to change the opinions some people have.

I bet they were really sorry when they saw the initial pre-order numbers and the general interest towards Xbox One. I'd rather them adjust the price of the console to be more competitive in whatever way they can than some apology.

MS fucking over clients and now ask for forgiveness. No thanks. You will never get my dollars again, loved the 365 but with this dick move for xboned one they truly showed what a anti consumer company they are. Crossing my fingers that PS4 will sell twice the amount of consoles than xboned ones.

Sony seemed humbled very quickly actually. But they really didn't have much to fix besides the price point - which like Microsoft, they are kind of stuck with.
Uh that's not true at all. Sony had an expensive machine with no seriously compelling software till 2009. Sony was saved earlier on just by the extreme popularity of the ps2. Sony turned it around and had a change if heart on things which is culminating in the near flawless announcement to launch of the ps4. The Xbox 360 (if it didn't die on you) was a way better console till the last few years and then the Sony first party machine stomped microsofts software support.

We have to realize that there are some hardcore fans out there trying their darnedest to justify the DRM situation because of their love for Xbox just like people tried to justify the $600 price of PS3. Case in point: you can't.

lolol, it's quite astonishing they thought that product reveal was a fine idea. Your product has next to no tangible advantage or appeal compared with your competitor, conceiving such a failure on all fronts is quite amazing. They still can't give anything to why someone should pick their console over something else, because it's close to impossible, they really didn't think they need reasons to sell this to 'people', to make anyone want it, no plan, nothing. He should be sorry for themselves how astonishingly clueless they were/are.

Since Gaf is wrong 99.5 % of the time, I expect everything said in this thread to be the exact opposite.

Gaf said the WiiU would fail and it did. Also this ain't a Gaf thing lol. Look at the polls on different websites and surveys at games shows, amazon rankings, they all paint a picture thats pretty clear to see.

Let's get this clear right now. MS aren't sorry with how they treated gamers. They're sorry they didn't get away with it. Don't think for a moment that it won't be rolled out before the end of the generation or even next gen. One way or another, it's coming.
On the flip side of that, I'm sure there are employees who haven't been completely brainwashed by these unwanted policies and never supported them.

you guys are going OT, but all my games installed without need a disc, could shop around without being forced to buy DD only from xbox store and I could still trade them in to gamestop? Yea give me the old system.

Exactly. For some people, there is nothing MS could announce that they couldn't justify to themselves. Thankfully these people are in the minority.

I don't care about the policy shift, acting humble, developer out reach etc. Just looking at this past generation I don't trust Microsoft to deliver a good lifespan of games. Out of the gate the 360 was amazing but for me after say 2009 it just petered out. Sony just seems much more attractive with all their first party studios and weird experiments like Tokyo Jungle and the games from thatgamecompany that really appeal to me.

I kind of preferred it to the traditional system

but knowing Microsoft, games would just be rentals. People liked to compare it to Steam but my internet went down for a little over a day not too long ago, and all of my games were available for me to play.

I don't play games if I'm not connected to the internet, even if it's a single player game. If they weren't so harsh with the 24 hour check in or you're fucked rule, I would have been ok with it.

It's cute how easily you believed them when even their executives and PR people had no idea what they were doing. Every day was another contradictory message from Mattrick, or Nelson, or Spencer, or Whitten, or Harrison. One of them would say something and 2 of the others would try to clear it up by each saying something completely different, resulting in 3 confusing messages about 1 policy.

And this went on for just about every policy they had.

Lol at all the angry people over a video game console. Xbox One is going to be fine either way. Apology or not.

I can't wait to get mine at launch. Also LOL at the guy who said you can't preorder consoles, that you need to go inside a store and see it to buy it.
This, too many people seem personally invested in wanting the console to fail. It won't. To people that ditched MS after DRM gate enjoy your PS4 and great games. But the constant need to portray the Xbox One as the worst thing to ever happen is getting old. You can barely have discussions in X1 related threads without them getting derailed in the first 10 or so posts.

Yep. Arrogant as always, and in my opinion, still lying through PR.

It is currently a two and three faced division and company. The directors and managers have left. The CEO is leaving, and I expect this device to be sent to a slow death a year or so after Balmer leaves.

On top of all of this, the hardware is ~$150 too expensive for what you get. I would love to know their cost.

The next year or two will be interesting. I don't want exclusives bought, I want compelling home grown, like Sony.

Sorry Microsoft was basically all "fuck you if you don't like it" all the way past e3 until preorder numbers came in. This permeated through everyone in MS in their interviews so there is no way I will trust them. They still have that view internally and will try to push it again once they get a userbase.

"Citing feedback"

Master of understatements.

Aka Pre order numbers...

As soon as Microsoft saw those ps4 Pre orders they changed their tune...

It's not them doing what's right for the gamer., its doing what's right to make them money
