IntelliHeath
As in "Heathcliff"
I've probably said this five times already, but you can still hold me to it: I'd be very surprised if even one Brawl Assist Trophy was made playable.
I will do.

There is a Project M tournament going on at my college right now, and man is it a blast. All these years of Melee elitism have finally paid off! I made it to the Quarter Finals, but my opponent is going to be very, very rough. My wavedashes, SHFFL and other similar advanced techniques seem to be good, but I could definitely use some advanced combos for my mains if anyone knows any. Captain Falcon is my best character, with Falco and Marth as my other mains. Smashboards is down unfortunately ):
I REALLY am hoping that SSB Wii U plays like Project M or Melee, but unfortunately Sakurai hates competitiveness so it almost certainly wont. Such a shame, as if its anything like Brawl it will just be SSB Melee underwater.
"Surprise" might be the wrong word, but I'm honestly not expecting him to be playable (for a couple of reasons).Little Mac would surprise you?![]()

i hope pokemon trainer comes back![]()

He was the most labor intensive Brawl newcomer, so obviously Sakurai cares about the character. He had to design three complete move sets, and his team had to make three separate models with unique animations and voice work. He's not just going to throw all of that work away. I'd even say that Pokémon Trainer and Wario are the two most important, "major" Brawl newcomers. (Hell, Pokémon Trainer's one of the few new characters on Brawl's box art.)He was one of the quirkier characters, so I doubt we'll lose him. It would be incredibly strange to drop him at this point imo.
Is anyone here into competitive SSB? I assume the first month of the games being out there will be a ton of community ran tournaments, so I was just wondering how many people here actually do that.
I would. I think someone's already planning to do a tourney too.
but Palutena sucks.
I'd say that it's likely but not very likely. I always thought of assist trophies as "a step away from being playable characters". I fully expect some of them becoming playable, specially Isaac and Little Mac.
I hope Saki has a shot. Or at least a S&P/S&P2 stage.

I do enjoy filling out the Pokedex.![]()

Man you guys suddenly got all hyped up?
I really expect something this week maybe a foreshading of the next week for TGS
Andross:
Cons: Too big, lacks a body, and difficult to create a viable moveset for.
When I'm done/bored with spriting Pokemon characters. I can start spriting Smash Bros characters for you guys for fun.
Great post. Definitely agree about Waluigi.

You're lucky it's only 5 days...
Competitive Pokémon is way too fucking deep for me. I can't even attempt to try getting into it. I can manage 100+ hours out of a single player venture in a Pokémon game though... I do enjoy filling out the Pokedex.
I'm usually the best out of my friends in Smash but I would likely get crushed in a competitive match, haha...

New character is extremely likely for TGS, I think.Waluigi is totally something I could see being announced at TGS, what's the over/under we get a new character announced at TGS? Hoping we get something at TGS, I'd even be content with some 3DS Stages, considering I'm getting both versions.
Plus there's no one who represents the sporty side of the Mario series.
He needs his time to shine.
I don't hate Waluigi, but he's an incredibly minor character who has nothing going for him. It would be one thing if Mario Tennis and Golf were part of a "Waluigi Sports" series, but in reality he's just one of a dozen playable characters in those games, no more prominent than the rest. He's not the mascot of the spinoff games. Why must people hate Waluigi! Plus I await his Luigi colored costume. C:
Already done.Awesome, I'm sure sylveon will be added to the smash pokeball roster just for you.
Wait what? lol I wanna see this.I remember Sakurai seemingly lamenting Waluigi wasn't playable in his Dojo update. Mmm...
PEACH!and buizel
Mr. Resetti:
Why?
I don't know if "lamenting" is the correct word at all, but his update is one of the few Assist Trophy updates that does specifically note playability (or lack thereof rather).Wait what? lol I wanna see this.
The fact that hes an Assist Trophy means he wont be appearing as a playable character, but...
![]()
Waluigi appears nonetheless!
You gave me a good laugh todayGoing down the list of ATs and giving my general opinion of their likelihood of becoming playable. We won't have any new news until after the weekend anyways, so might as well quell the boredom with another list.
Note that I'm not using "dead franchise" as a con, as one could argue many mainstays of Smash are from those types of franchises.
Brawl Assist Trophies:
Andross:
Pros: Villain of a mainstay franchise in Smash.
Cons: Too big, lacks a body, and difficult to create a viable moveset for.
Chances: Slim to none.
Barbara the Bat:
Pros: Potentially quirky moveset. Also comes from a game that has a variety of music from Nintendo franchise, making it a psuedo-crossover.
Cons: Is fairly obscure, and was only released in Japan and Europe.
Chances: Slim.
Devil:
Pros: Potentially quirky moveset. Also a game designed by Miyamoto.
Cons: Was never released in North America. Sources for moveset inspiration are thin.
Chances: Slim.
Dr. Wright:
Pros: Hails from a beloved franchise.
Cons: Franchise is not first party, despite the character being owned by Nintendo.
Chances: Slim to none.
Excitebiker:
Pros: A classic series that is widely known. Was in consideration to be a playable character for Brawl.
Cons: Can't jump.
Chances: Slim.
Gray Fox:
Pros: Undoubtedly popular character from a popular franchise.
Cons: Is a secondary character from a third-party franchise.
Chances. None if Snake doesn't get in. Still slim to none if Snake does return.
Hammer Bro.:
Pros: More interesting than your average goomba.
Cons: More boring than pretty much everyone else.
Chances: Slim. Sakurai wold be nuts to include fodder enemies as playable.
Helirin:
Pros: None.
Cons: It's an inanimate object, lets move on.
Chances: None.
Advance Wars Rep:
Pros: Lots of moveset potential. Several characters can represent the series.
Cons: The game is a modern war game with guns.
Chances: Slim.
Isaac:
Pros: Incredible moveset potential.
Cons: Nothing that stands out at the moment.
Chances: Decent.
Jeff:
Pros: From a beloved franchise and has interesting moveset potential.
Cons: A secondary character, with Paula making much more sense as the "next Earthbound character".
Chances: Slim.
Jill & Drill Dozer:
Pros: A character who's constantly in a vehicle is a quirky concept and has good moveset potential.
Cons: Drill Dozer is not a franchise.
Chances: Better than slim.
Kat & Ana:
Pros: A pair from a recent franchise that has the potential of a crazy moveset. Also a potential double-character.
Cons: A secondary character from WarioWare that may have less priority to other secondary characters from the same game. Also being a double character may be a potential con as well, since it draws the quirkiness away from Ice Climbers making their gimmick obsolete and stale.
Chances: Slim to none.
Knuckle Joe:
Pros: Eh...help me out here.
Cons: Sakurai didn't want his franchise to be over represented. Also, the Kirby series now has other characters who may better take his place, such as Prince Fluff.
Chances: Slim.
Lakitu:
Pros: Interesting moveset potential...
Cons: Would be strange to skip many other Mario series characters to add a Lakitu.
Chances: Slim to none.
Little Mac:
Pros: A character from a beloved franchise. The Smash Circuit is a Smash Bros. U stage.
Cons: Moveset limited to punches (though I personally think this is a pro, I love boxers).
Chances: Good.
Lyn:
Pros: Popular Fire Emblem character.
Cons: Too late frankly, and irrelevant to where the franchise is currently at.
Chances: Slim to none.
Metroid:
Pros: Not much, other than being the titular creature for the series.
Cons: Uh...where's Ridley?
Chances: None.
Nintendog:
Pros: Puppies are cute.
Cons: You can't beat up on realistic puppies, only a monster would do that.
Chances. Slim to none.
Ray MK II:
Pros: Great moveset potential, also adds a more "Japanese mecha" design to the roster.
Cons: He's too... small? (Olimar waves hi.)
Chances: Better than slim.
Mr. Resetti:
Why?
Saki Amamiya:
Pros: Great moveset potential.
Cons: Nothing apparent at the moment.
Chances: Better than slim.
Samurai Goroh:
Pros: Comes from a beloved franchise.
Cons: There are a selection of other racers that vie for that spot. Also another sword dude, Takamaru would probably be the "better" sword dude to include over Goroh.
Chances: Better than slim.
Shadow the Hedgehog:
Pros: He's so cool and badass.
Cons: Too cool.
Chances: None if Sonic doesn't get in. And slim if Sonic does.
Stafy:
Pros: The moveset for this little star is potentially interesting...
Cons: ...but is potentially boring too.
Chances: Better than slim.
Tingle:
Pros: Ohohohohohoho! Would definitely stand out on the roster.
Cons: Moveset potential is questionable.
Chances: Better than slim.
Waluigi:
Pros: Waluigi wuz here.
Pros: Waluigi da best.
Pros: *crotch chop*
Chances: Confirmed.
Granted, given his personality you COULD give him an incredibly creative moveset, but still.
Exactly, his personality is already of something you don't see in the game.
He obvsiously has leg work, most of his strength comes from as seen in his AT in Brawl.
The fact he knows Kick Boxing/Muay Thai.
His very mischievous nature, with his loving of bombs.
And if they implement his power from the Striker game, Wall-Luigi! (Purple Vines) into his moveset, then you get a pretty unique character.
Not only that, but come on.. You know Waluigi would have the best damn taunts in the game. Hah.
Edit: I hate when I leave a big post, and i'm the last post before a new page.. >.<
