Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

It's more it's literally the same person but in a different art-style. You could easily give a ton of similar characters like Toon Link/Shadow Mario/Dr. Mario/Baby Mario unique movesets, but to me I just don't see the point unless you're pressed for time to choose something like that over a unique rep character-wise, not necessarily moveset wise.

I just don't want Bowser Jr. since I find him annoying, he debuted in my least favorite mainline Mario game and he effectively replaced the Koopalings for nearly a decade.

I strongly agree with both points. 2 1up's up.

The arena stage is weird, because it doesn't seem like the typical battlefield/final destination. Parts of it seem kinda Punch-Out like, but it doesn't scream Punch-Out at the moment. Maybe because if Mac is playable they don't want it to be super obvious. At least it will probably feature Punch-Out music.

I really hope that it would be Punch-Out stage, but for some reason, I have a feeling that the name of stage would be Super Smash Bros Dojo. That stage would be a tribute to Dojo.

I'm still assuming it's a Punch-Out stage in the same way they were super vague about what that castle stage in Brawl's debut trailer was for over a year until Ike was revealed, even though I think most people guessed it was Fire Emblem related. Either SSB4's having a much smaller newcomer list (which I'll take if it means everybody from Brawl comes back) and they want to stretch things out hence only having 3 newcomers at E3, or Mac simply isn't ready to have an effective minute gameplay trailer shown off for him. It's worth remembering only Pit and Meta Knight were shown in-game when Brawl was revealed, and only for a couple seconds each. Everything else was CGI, whereas with SSB4 they're definitely further along and not really relying on that sort of flashy presentation style as much.

Yeah, for now I assume it's a "Smash-universe" PO stage, though it could very well just be an arena and Little Mac isn't playable. Details like the stars around the floor logo seem PO-inspired though.

I like the Dojo idea too, that would be a cool callback.

Regarding the PO!! ring.

There are more similarities than the star formation on the canvas. Someone compiled them all and posted them. I think the OP has that infro saved. I am feeling too lazy right now to go through all of it again.

Punch-Out Ring Stage
Whenever I would post tidbits about this, I got a couple of requests to make this its own thread, so I decided to go ahead go through with it.

So, the boxing ring stage. You've seen it, I'm sure. Some people aren't exactly sure if it's a Punch Out related stage, if it's a Kirby themed stage, or just a generic new boxing ring stage just for kicks. Well, I'm gonna tell you that this stage is a Punch Out themed stage for a multitude of reasons. So let's begin I guess...

First off, the audience is human, so you can rule out any possibility that this is a Kirby themed stage (all Kirby boxing rings have Kirby characters instead). The marquee's in the background are all dot styled, which is consistent with the marquees in Punch Out Wii, and even the title screen and round indicators for Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

All logos in Punch Out Wii are adorned with clusters of stars, which are usually in 3's because triple star punches are the most powerful punch in the game, as well as the "leaf vines" on the sides (forgive me; I don't know the term for this) and a giant star somewhere in the middle. The logo in the ring, while being smash themed, shares all of these characteristics.

The ring ropes are also identical in both color and configuration as the Major Circuit ring in Punch Out Wii. Similarly, the corners are all identical colors and positions as the Punch Out Wii corners. The logo in Smash also features a ribbon at the top, which is a direct throwback to the World Circuit ribbon at the top and bottom of the logo.

Also, as a random tidbit, the ribbon in the Smash Punch Out stage says "CHAMPIONSHIP" on it, which is probably because if it straight up said "Major Circuit" on it, it would be flat out obvious. Plus since Smash Bros doesn't have "circuits", championship makes more sense in the context of the game.

The final fight in Punch Out Wii, Mr. Sandman, has a very particular entrance for both his Title Defense and Contender fights. He approaches the ring while there's a green laser light show that goes on behind him. Well, check this out...

Same green laser show.

But yeah, there are an abundance of intentional details that suggest this stage is designed to be a Punch Out stage. There may be a few details that I'm missing, but those were all the details I seemed to notice. Unsure if this confirms Mac being a character, but at the very least there's a stage from the Punch Out series in the game.

Thanks.

Another thing is that the dot matrix display in the background has the same color scheme as the PO!! Wii logo.

Interesting about the boxing ring, especially the ring ropes being exactly the same. Definitely no coincidence there.
Red, white, and blue ropes are used all the time in real life. It's the most common color scheme. Do a Google image search for "boxing ring" and you'll see what I mean.

It's the exact configuration though, most of the google results have them in different spots from what I see. Plus the logo similarities and the color scheme used for the marquee. Seems like it's either a PO stage or takes major inspiration from PO.

What music do you guys want?

I hope these two come in, just for starters.

Furious Fire

Greenhorn Ruins
An extended version of this is a must.

Is the music they use from other games remade for Smash? Or are they just copy pasted?
The first two games remixed everything they took from their respective franchises, Brawl has a mix of remixes and direct-rips. Personally I'd be up for a smaller song count than Brawl if it meant they were all unique remixes/remasters, especially since stages like Green Hill/Shadow Moses/Port Town were a let down when the majority of their songs are just the original tunes.

It isn't just the ropes, it is everything combined that makes the coincidence pill hard to swallow.

I don't see the problem with 3rd parties since they're being treated as guest characters. It's not like he's going overboard with them unlike what a lot of people wanted him to do.
Exactly. Given Sakurai's extremely conservative nature in regards to third-parties, we won't be seeing more than four this game and that's being very generous.
I don't think we will have three characters reveal during October as some people claimed that we would, so I would bet that it's more likely to be Pokemon reveal such as Lucario or Pokemon Trainer. I'm not sure about Sonic and Wind Waker since I have a feeling that Sonic and Snake wouldn't survive the cut this time.

They probably would save Zelda for Zelda 3DS.
I'm even having doubts about two characters reveals for October and we are certainly going to have a Pokémon reveal this October. I expect either Pokémon Trainer or Jigglypuff; thinking that Mewtwo and Lucario will be saved as unlockables.

I highly doubt Jigglypuff would move up to starting character status, ever.

On the topic, will Jigglypuff go back to the status of first unlockable again in this game? Felt weird that she was one of the very last you could unlock in Brawl.

I believe that Jigglypuff, Ness and Captain Falcon will be starters for this game. There's not any reason to cut them and at this rate, they really need to be starters (and Marth as well). I'd rather unlock exciting newcomers than seeing mostly the same face as I did with Brawl.

i dislike the inclusion of 3rd party characters immensely. i also hope sonic and snake got cut. Mega Man is way better than those two tho.

Sonic and Megaman are like peanut butter and jelly; they need to be together.

Punch-Out Ring Stage

Well that's just dandy! When we were first shown this stage I tried to compare everything I could to each of the Punch Out games but since I wasn't familiar with the games my sleuthing only went so far. I appreciate the effort that went into comparing everything and if I wasn't 999% sure Mac was making it in this time, this post would have crossed me into the million % range.

I feel lucky because my 3 of my top 4 have such good chances to make it. Little Mac, Mewtwo, Dixie Kong and Ridley. Too bad for Mewtwo though...

I agree, though I would be okay with Jiggly being the first unlockable after you beat classic mode, like 64 and Melee. As long as she isn't one of the last like Brawl for some reason.

I still think that the entire cast from Super Smash Bros. should be playable from the start. Keep secrets hidden, don't hide the obvious.

At the very least, stop making 3rd-party characters hidden. It's dumb when Snake and Sonic were a huge part of Brawl's advertising and pre-release hype, yet still had to be unlocked in-game.

Also I liked how Melee had Ness and Falcon playable from the start since they were their franchise rep's and it was obvious regardless they'd be in the game. I'd like it if a few characters in similar situations like Marth/Game & Watch/ROB got the same treatment in SSB4.

Characters like Marth, Falco, and Ganondorf should be in the starting lineup at this point.

Wario Land 4 is sweet it gets too much flack sometimes. Cool boss fights, tight level design, beautiful graphics and catchy tunes. Wario Land 4 may not be the follow-up to Wario Land III that a lot of people wanted but it is an enjoyable experience that is definitely worthy of its namesake.

The teddy bear is so cute, a cuddly protector, it could devour the monsters under my bed.

The real problem with Wario Land 4 is the lack of Captain Syrup.

ehh having them as unlockable wasent that big of a deal, I enjoy unlocking characters instead of just getting them

Characters that we know are gonna be in the game are a boring unlockable, they should make the real surprises unlockable, and have Marth and Jigglypuff playable from the start.

I'll accept unlockable returning characters if they are changed a bit, like how they're changing Bowser. Ganondorf is a good candidate. Maybe Falco too.

There were probably a TON of kids who bought Smash just for Sonic and found they had to either play right up until the end of SSE, play a dozen hours worth of fights or 300 vs matches just to play as him.

He should have just been available from the start. Especially this time around if he comes back after how much he's associated with Nintendo nowadays.

They should have Lucas, Ike, Lucario and Wolf as secret characters so it would scared some of people into believing that they are gone for good.

I find it interesting that every Pokemon in the starting roster are Starter Pokemon while all of the unlockable ones aren't.

Very clever, Sakurai...

They shouldn't have shown Mario in the trailer and made him an unlockable instead. Shake things up a bit.
