That Harley stuff is pretty cool.

Man this Didio stuff bums me out. It always seems like everything out of his mouth is a middle finger to me. I know he trolls and all and that's why I try to avoid comic sites but damn..

That's the worst fucking part. The seemingly open contempt he seems to have for both creators and readers. Like he thinks he knows better than everyone what makes a story good or enjoyable. You don't get to say that when you're #2. Marvel could make that argument. Marvel could, and in fact have, told readers as politely as possible to go fuck themselves when making a change that got neckbeards mad. Because they actually fucking know better than to let Ms. Marvel parade in a swimsuit all day or have Reed Richards mack on a 14 years old Sue Storm. DC doesn't have the legitimacy of popularity to say they know better. And yet Dan Didio acts like King Shit of Butt Mountain, telling people that you can't have good stories if people are happily married.

To which I say, "fuck that".

Jesus, so aggressive. He did fact-check. To be fair, you were the one throwing around decline without any cited sources in your shit, which is what tends to happen in a lot of these such-and-such was a bomb/didn't sell/poor numbers posts you see sometimes.

To be fair, no he didn't. Show me the facts here.

Really, it comes down to who these faux pas are actually affecting. There are, as an example, a large portion of ComicGAF who get next to no DC titles who will decry everything that is done; But they weren't going to invest themselves in the universe anyways so it really doesn't matter.

There is a ton of internet outrage over stuff like editorial interference / creator changes, but a majority of those people expressing said outrage, don't even get the title. There are simply many more internet champions who will take up any seeming slight to something they are passionate about (equality for marriage, etc) who are much more interested in the sensationalism that will bring attention rather than the actual issue at hand.

People who buy comics aren't going to be swayed by such things. If you are deep enough into a companies catalog to by anything besides their top tier, premier titles, you're going to end up being much harder to sway into "action" (re: cancel a book) outside of it just sucking, which is going to be the biggest cause of readership loss.

"internet champions"
"not real fans"
"they're not going to buy it anyway"

These are not facts. They're a condescending way to dismiss any and all criticism. And it's obnoxious as fuck.

I'm not much of a comic book reader, but has anybody read The Star Wars? Just came out this week, if I understand correctly.

It's the adaptation of the original screen play. With Annikin Starkiller and everything.

Was it good?

Ok, first Comic Con. Was a blast...they take credit cards at booths with the help of smart phones. Thats was bad for me but oh well. Anyways.....

First off, who are my current Thor fans? Im not really so I got this for one of you. First Thor fan to link me to one of their post praising this book wins a signed copy of Thor God of Thunder #1 by writer Jason Aaron.

Welcome! You should be picking up Thor as well. It's the best Marvel Solo title you are currently not reading.

Land must sell books. After 10 years of being on fairly large properties, it's the only explanation.

I have others if that is not satisfactory. If that is, and I qualify as the winner, I would like you to gift that comic to a reader in this thread who just started the hobby within the past year instead. Let them have something cool to start their collection with.

I think all of this began when DC editorial started thinking they were writers.

didn't they write half of the Flashpoint tie-ins? I remember raising an eyebrow during those solicits.

On Why Editors are Writing So Many Flashpoint Tie-Ins: Berganza says the editors got the assignments due to the fact that they’re so close to the material, and many creators were busy with the New 52 books they were planning.

http://comicsalliance.com/dc-flashpoint-panel-comic-con/

I get the same vibe from the new 52, editors seem like they'd rather be the ones writing the books but instead of doing so, DC just has a few unhappy creative changes.

I started about 3 months ago if that counts? Had a brief stint a few years back but fell out of it. But got into comics majorly on my recent holiday in the US

Since then I've bought these:

wow, thats one shitty quality photo lol , also missing is Hush and one of my Chew volumes as they are in my locker in work. I am reading those in work.

"will spend $3 or so to ship, if you live somewhere that doesn't want to bomb Syria, you'll have to provide extra shipping costs"

That should cover you, legally speaking.

Count me out dude if its in any way costly. I just wanted to show you guys my shit :P

I live in Ireland btw, we are essentially neighbours

I was talking about this post:

Units Dollars
July 2013 34.07% 32.50%
June 2013 32.03% 29.57%
May 2013 30.84% 28.27%
April 2013 27.72% 25.98%
Mar 2013 29.88% 27.09%
Feb 2013 32.89% 29.22%
Jan 2013 35.41% 31.61%

The cycle continues and the wheel turns.

Which was in response to yours:

...yeah, nobody reads comics except the people who read comics. And, of course, since all these decisions have been coming to light DC has seen an increase in sales, right?

Oh. They've actually been declining rapidly?

Hm. What could the cause be. I wonder. Hm.

Picked up New X-Men Vol. 1. This is my... 4th comic(excluding manga), I believe. The previous ones I've read are I Kill Giants, Thor: The Mighty Avenger and Watchmen.

Quite enjoyable so far. Will certainly have to read the rest.

Okay, this is too cool. :D

Sean Murphy illustrated a story in this week's Batman Black & White #1, featuring the Dark Knight taking on Roxy Rocket in some souped-up motorcars through the streets of Gotham. Recently, someone also commissioned him for a piece of artwork featuring two favorite characters -- at double his usual asking fee -- and Sean decided he would go all out and render a complete illustrated scene.

You can find a full-size version on his dA page. Here's a smaller version.

:D

So...just finished up the last issue of the Captain America Dimension Z storyline...

Sharon as Zola is definitely going to be a thing right?

I know the pain. My last con set me back something like $1000+. I had saved up for it, but I came across so many things that I NEEDED MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.

Missed this.

Wife and I only spent $120 today. Next week there is another con in Cincinnati with even better talent. IMO of course. tim is going to that one as well.

You are the winner, you get to pick who gets it. Dont put this on me. I want it to go to a fan.

Fuck......I didnt think this through. I need a legal department, lol. I dont want to spend a bunch of momey to ship it.

Haha. If you can't find a newish reader located in the US, you could send it to ViewtifulJC. He's always talking about Thor in these threads.

Like I said, it's a cool gift. If I hadn't banished long boxes from my house, I'd have totally gone the greedy route and kept it for myself.

sillymonkey likes Thor and the poor guy had his DCBS shipment ganked so ill send it to him.

I was just looking at the Ryan Stegman signatures I got today and his is genius. I mean he came off as a big ego at the con. Not in a bad way but like he knows hes cool. I swear its most artistic signature ive seen. He has incoperated both his names into one thing. Just stare at it, its on his covers.

You have the R below the S and then the Y is incoperated into the M. The R doubles as the T.

It's hard to say from just the first issue, but I liked it a lot.

That Harley story in Batman black and white was great. I would like more stories and art like that. Also I love when anyone uses the classic Harley costume.

I still can't get over her redesign. It's the most offensive shit in the new 52. I feel bad for any artist having to draw that godawful juggalo-horseshit.

Gah! You just reminded me I even had it. Picked it up on a whim this past Wednesday. Seeing the Harley story when flipping through it is what actually convinced me to drop the $5.

I know what I'm reading later.

It seriously kills me every time I see it. She is my favorite character and that new look is dreadful. Her original outfit is brilliant and fits in perfectly with joker. This new one doesn't.

Girlfriend and I did the blind purchases today for one another to give another series a shot for a surprise to one another. I bought her East of West #1 and she bought me jupiters legacy #1. She loved her comic but I was bored by Jupiter. Does it ever improve? She bought it for me since she is a kick-ass fan but it was not a fun read. Comparing it to Saga doesn't help either since Saga always surprises me and keeps me entertained.

No one knows. Issue #3 still hasn't come out. But from the two issues I read, it had some novelty to it, but I was getting bored. Like the artwork, though.

#2 was about the same quality as 1, no discernible jump.

Remender Cap blows.
I was waiting for it to get good. Then I got to #8 and was all excited because of the reaction here, but I just rolled my eyes when I got to that part.
It didn't help that JRJR drew it. I've always hated his work.

I've hated the Zola arc. It ran too long and I'm glad it's over.

DC editorial has just been fucked up since New52 began.

I mean, talent is just jumping off ship like fleas.

They are going nope out of here.

Well, at least gave us Fialkov's Ultimates.

Silly question but what exactly is this new Harley Quinn monthly? Does it just pick up somewhere with the New 52 suicide squad stuff? (Haven't read any of them) Or is it something new?

Not gonna lie, I like the Harley redesign. This cover is especially great.

Maybe it's the hat.

Appears like it's going to be a Deadpool-esque series. Doubt it'll be intimately tied to Suicide Squad. Should likely be safe to go into solo.
