Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

I know the feeling... it's just become such a part of the medium that I find games without it hard sometimes. But seriously, I have a hard time playing my 3DS XL over my Vita because of it. And knock them all you like, but it's one of several reasons I don't want a WiiU. [Nintendo tends to say something isn't necessary only to play catch up the next generation -- look at the Wii -> Wii U with the addition of HD... they take online a little more serious now, but still their service is a joke overall...]

Edit:
Oh look, top of the page again. See my last recommendation list.

I'll upload those Sine Mora shots for Tygur in a second too.

It's unfortunate, but true for me, as well. I haven't gotten stuff like Fire Emblem, Shin Megami Tensei, Luigi's Mansion 2, etc., because I know I won't play it. Between PS3 and Vita, I really don't have the time for extraneous games, and because there isn't that extra motivation to get all the trophies, there's no motivation, either. I know it's terrible, I know I'm missing out on some great games. But I really get my money's worth when trophies or achievements are involved. I prefer the Sony combo, but I recently got Bastion and Bully: Scholarship Edition on Xbox 360 because they're not on PS3, but I know I'll play them thoroughly. I haven't gotten a Wii U, yet, either.

And finish a game with under a second on the timer? Seriously? Who thinks these are good ideas?

Well, since the game has a mechanic that revolves around the clock, it's actually not *that* bad. It's just killing any boss with time almost running out on you... you can manipulated it by getting hit (to take time off the clock) or using the speed up time mechanic to slow time as needed.

Rayman Legends is probably the best game I've played this year. I'm not totally sold on the Murphy levels but they can be fun in their own right. I kept trying to get to the challenge modes earlier but was getting some kind of error from Ubisoft's server. Anyone else have that problem?

Agree, the game is amazing (not my fave of the year though). Far better than Origins, and that's saying something. I don't mind the Murphy levels so much because it breaks it up a bit.

What I did find out though is that the levels on Vita are different to the ones on PS3, I Youtubed a level walkthrough because I was stuck on how to get the 600 lums for a level and there were areas and lums that didn't exist on the Vita version. Only slight variations but different nonetheless.

I'm also getting the same problem with the servers.

I've played all existing Ys games several times over. And, yes, I'm a trophy whore and it's incredibly difficult for me to play anything that doesn't have trophies or achievements. Shameful, I know.

Have you tried the Soul Sacrifice demo? Is a hunting game, but its faster that most games in the genre, has a hack & slash feeling. And it has some RPG elements (character leveling and customization). Or Dragon's Crown. And there is that Dungeon Hunter: Alliance but i think is a very average game.

I think that Gurumin (PSP) game some people is recommending is an ARPG too. Only US though. And if you are okay with playing your PS3 Tales of are really fast paced ARPG.

Well killzone just keeps getting better for me. At first I thought it was just a damn good fps but its turning into one if my favs in a long time (I was getting rather bored with the genre).

I love the heavy weighty feel to it.

I love that some of the maps are multi levelled. So many console shooters play on almost a flat plain its really great to play one where you have to worry about above and below as well.

Way better kill streak type system than CoD I think.

Warzone is so funny. It's got people either padding there k/d ratio or just don't know how it works so you can just annihilate the other team just by playing it properly.

Interrogations are a great idea.

Being able to counter melee is also fantastic.

As for offline I have done 4 missions on veteran so far and they all have felt pretty varied so far. Plus I'm exploring the maps and you really do notice a lot of alternative paths.

I never played a killzone before so if this stuff is all in past ones then ok sure but it def feels different to any other fps I have played in a fair while.

Congratulations on surviving the frustration of death mode's randomness without snapping your Vita in half.

Now sync that save to the cloud and go get the 2nd platinum for free on your PS3. :)

Haha yeah I know that feeling. I stuck with it and did them though. That was ages ago now. Still havnt plat'd it yet as not dont the sound side things.

Just platinum'd soundshapes :D
Got the platinum last night as well. Didn't think Death Mode was too bad, the platinum was pretty much free.

Getting a Vita somewhat revitalized (heh) my love for trophies. Got the one for Rayman Origins yesterday as well.

Wow, nice. I didn't know that was possible.

vitabros, should I get a Wii U? (weird I ask this here.. but hey you guys are family <3)
I'm personally on the edge of getting one this month. mainly because of bloom waker HD and so I can replay my Wii games

But it's up to you if you wanna drop down 300 for a ded console.
then again we are in a vita thread

They're dirt cheap now - why not? There's a few games that look cool for it, bound to be some more coming as well - Smash bros, Bayonetta etc

Disagree. Smash Bros is TBA 2014, it'll probably drop in price again by then, and maybe they'll do a cool LE bundle for it. Not enough games to justify it at the moment, imo. First system since the Wii that's sat on the shelf for months for me.
December earliest, IMO.

VitaGAF is the best GAF :D

I'm definitely getting Smash. Playing it on the Gamecube was the epitome of social gaming for me (friends coming over, 4 controllers, so many hours of fun!)

thinking of trying out Pikmin, Wonderful 101 and the rest of the Mario IPs. I loved Windwaker... so I would love to get it in its HD variant.

-----

typing this, I somehow hope I could connect my Vita to my PC and use it as a controller instead. I love the Dpad and buttons so much!

Well in the UK you can get a Basic for £150 - I'd probably buy Zombie U, Wonderful 101, Wind Waker, Earthbound VC, Pikmin - there's enough on there to justify a purchase I think. Doesn't mean I will buy one though :p

spend that 150 on a PS4 pre-order. I have no idea when the PS4 comes out for SCEJA regions :/ and it's gonna super expensive when that happens T_T

Just tried Urban Trial Freestyle. Haha, pure Trials ripoff. ^^
But, as a Trials fanatic, I'm loving it. Physics & level design are miles ahead on Trials Evo, though.
Still, it's a free PSN+ title and I'm having fun with it. \o/

My PS4 is already paid off. But I tend to pick up Nintendo consoles a little later in the generation anyway, Nintendo do make some awesome games.

I would kill for more Air Traffic Controller ports. Love the PC versions, and love the PSP Haneda Hero game, but damn if I could just get all of the ATC3 airport expansions in portable form. Okinawa, Kagoshima, Osaka, Hong Kong etc. Vita seems perfect for Sonic Powered to bundle 'em up.

Great games, just sadly locked up behind fan translations and limited exposure.

Is the haneda hero compatible with the Vita?

I'm thinking about downloading it

You need to snag it on the PS3 and do the transfer there, but yeah. Utter crack, despite looking pretty hideous. It'd be my favourite 'puzzle' game series, if that makes sense.

"Control, Flight..7...7...4...bound for...Sapporo...request pushback."

So good.

oh noice.

Gonna download it this week then. I played the ones on the DS and never tried out the PSP versions.

It's when you try and describe them that it all falls over. "Yeah, you tell planes when and where to take off, land and taxi...and uh, yeah, it gets pretty busy. And there's limited bands of communication, so like, yeah, the command and delegation aspect isn't instantaneous.

...yeah."

The DS game isn't all that different to the PSP version, so don't get your hopes up too much for new content. That said, at least there's another fellow around here who knows the ATC addiction.

Fug mang, i love all things aviation.
I listen to my local intl ariport (KORD) departure/arrival/ground freq every time I drive to work or college.

I'd love it if there was a ATC game for the Vita.

Was i the only one who ignored the existence of a jrpg called edge of eternity that releases on EVERYTHING(iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8, Blackberry 10, PSVita, Ouya, Wii U, Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC, Mac e Linux... well everything except the 3ds lol)?

MH4 Direct just showcased Mario and Luigi... and now Link.

Sony... imagine the cameo you could have done if you paid enough for MH4
(Kratos in MH showing those monsters who's boss would be MEGATON)

Is Kratos big in Japan?

probably not. I'm at a loss what Sony IP is big in Japan.
but hey Sackboy as a costume for the Felyne may work..? idk

heck. they could easily give me any of the Legend of Dragoon weapons/armorsets in a Vita MH, I would buy it twice

I have a question, if you have an R3 retail version of Rayman Legends, can you download the future R1 DLC for the invasion levels have it work? since I have an NA account or do I need the R1 version to be sure

vitabros, should I get a Wii U? (weird I ask this here.. but hey you guys are family <3)
I'm a Vita owner and a Wii U owner. Honestly If I could have all the money I put in to the Wii U (system, controllers, games, external HDD) back I would happily do it. At least with Nintendo you are pretty much guaranteed to get an awesome exclusive or two throughout it's life.

I rationalized the Wii U purchase with the fact that I have two small kids and I thought it would be good for them, but the Wii U isn't as kid friendly as I thought it would be. The GamePad is obviously more fragile than a typical controller and the Wii remotes are not as intuitive to hold as a regular gamepad.

The streaming feature is another big reason why I got the Wii U (busy schedule, wife, and 2 kids in an apartment means time in front of the TV uninterrupted is rare) and that feature has been probably the best thing about the system however I have been disappointed with the range (Lucky for me my bedroom is right next to the living room) and the quality of the screen. The Vita screen is way better than the Wii U. The better screen quality, suspend features, the lack of range issues makes it so I play the Vita much more than my Wii U streaming.

I actually prefer playing on my PS3 with my son.

I'm jelly of all the Kickstarter projects that 3DS is getting.
Please come to the Vita

especially this!

Actually, judging by how the funding is going, it doesn't look like the 3DS will be getting it at all. If they want to be on a portable, they'd probably be better off talking to Shahid... He's a huge Turrican fan, and repeatedly tweeted about wanting it on the Vita.

Digital contents are region locked, you need a r1 account and a r1 version of rayman to download r1 rayman's patches, dlcs etc

DLC is region locked, but if the extra levels are part of a regular update/patch and don't require getting from the US Store, then you should be fine.

What annoys me is that MH4 has online play, as did MH3 and MH Tri. But none of the PSP ones did. What is it about the PSP that Capcom hated enough to never give the PSP versions multiplayer?

guess they just dislike Sony :/

----

btw, is there any confirmation on Rayman Legends not having online play?
My friend wanted me to buy and have us be in the same party chat or something to try if the WiFi play works

Nope. Patches are region free. The only part that is region locked are dlcs or anything to do with the psn store. Only those require their respective regional accounts.

MH3DS doesn't have online MP without a WiiU (and who would play the 3DS version if they own a WiiU?). If you count that you have to count Adhoc Party as well, so PSP did. Didn't the PS2 ones have online play?
MH4 having online is new for handheld MH.

welp, thanks, looks like digital version for me then, yeah I remember now, patches are region free

I doubt the invasion levels would be a patch though, what do you think vitabros?
