Do you know how digital sales compare to print sales? I've always wanted to know like, basic percentages, how much a typical title does versus its print sales.

I don't get to look at numbers but we do pretty well.

Print will always dominate just because most people are "collectors" but I think we're really doing good with the casual market.

Also I can't talk about CMX that much since I signed a NDA and I love my job.

which I don't have a problem with but they represent themselves as comic loving individuals to exploit comic fans.

I remember when a loyal customer died who had boxes of holds and the response from one of the owners was basically "yeah, he has shit on hold right? well he's dead so toss it back out onto the floor." and that is me putting it in a nice way.

Don't get me wrong, they sound like pieces of shit. I've only ever ordered two or three comics from their website that were out of stock everywhere else.

Yeah, they're good for that shit. Diamond loves them because Gahl(purchaser) over orders. Sales #'s are squed because midtown over orders. Some of the top selling books are just sitting in a dusty corner in a wharehouse.

Edit: also don't buy your comics from Midtown Comics.

Also Midtown comics has a stanglehold on the industry and Diamond does change their policy based on what Midtown says.

Hm, if this was true, then the entire industry would have carried my mini comics in 2001 because they did.

lol

hmm... I work at comixology now...

Edit: these are my views not comixologies and I will try to not discuss their BIZ! but HD android app you can probably find it floating around.

Huh? Is that code for ComicRack?

Talk about throwing gas on a fire

Forgot to share my LCS "Forever Evil" 3D cover gimmick story with everyone!

Got to the store around 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.
No line; inside, the usual group of people hanging out, talking and playing games.
Handful of 3D covers on the rack: saw Joker, Ventriloquist, and Bizarro, all at cover price.
Saw 2D covers for the rest.
Looking at the 3D covers too long was disconcerting.
I bought my books and left.

Exciting!

Hey, so I talked to IamMikeside, and he let me take over the Comic Book Club from a while back.

So for the first voting thread, I need three new suggestions. Or you can nominate the same ones with the exception of I Kill Giants since that won the first vote. I'll just do the first three that get suggested. Thanks guys!

Edit: I should have mentioned it here, but I'm going to choose one nomination per member. Feel free to nominate multiple series though!

Saga, Hawkguy, The Walking Dead

Hmmm, I'll throw in some mainstream choices. Others will be better at indie stuff.

Astonishing X-Men: Gifted
Guardians of the Galaxy: Legacy
Runaways: Pride and Joy

My LCS had them all, and there are three other shops in the area. One of which was recently opened by these two idiot brothers who have a saver at a shop just a few miles away from them. Basically they buy up their saver books and resell them in their shop. I don't think they can afford the Diamond minimum each month.

I'm friends with the guy who owns my LCS and he was telling me how these guys sold their 3D covers for something like $15 a pop and sold out. So they came in his store and tried to buy up his stock. He told them he knew who they were and they were free to buy as many as they wanted, as long as they paid what they were going to resell them for.

The idiots got all pissed off and stormed out.

Chew, Invincible, Detective Comics: The Black Mirror

Edit: Saw the 3D covers yesterday when I went and picked up my books. They looked kinda lame.

Thanks guys, I'll pick 1 of each from your posts. Except GrandHarrier, too late :v

i gave up on Batwoman after the wonder woman arc, i thought it had fantastic art but the story arcs weren't going anywhere, the same opinion i had with Flash when i gave it a try. The problem is, when you trash talk a book like Batwoman, that, even if i found it slow, it's still decent, you're purposefully pretending like it was the worst book DC was publishing and it just had to go. If Didio wanted to qualify it, he'd have to say that Batbooks have to be at higher levels of quality than the rest, but he didn't, and from reviews it looks like Batman Dark Knight is in need of changing before Batwoman.

I have a problem with using too many commas.

I'm curious if the decision to keep her separate from the other Bat titles was a conscious decision or editorially mandated, because I feel that harmed the title, in the long run.

Also, she was, at times, not very likeable. I ended up liking Bette more than her in several of the issues, especially when Kate would lash out at her. I remember one particular issue, where Kate comes back home and just lashing out at Bette, telling her she can't fight crime (as if she had a right to tell her that), for absolutely no reason.

Also, that she'd try to go after Batman was odd. Her was her inspiration, but the arc tried to distance her from that, and form this oddly competitive, confrontational attitude towards him.

Edit: Here is Batwoman's freak out on Bette for no reason.

Ok guys, odd question. I want to get into weekly comics. So name me the top 5 books you are reading right now and I will give them a go if I don't already read them.

I read:
Saga
Batman
Hakeye
Batwoman(ish)
Batgirl
Miles Spiderman :P
Suicide Squad
Chew

I think thats it. I am open to all suggestions, kind of want to get into some kind of team book. Young Avengers maybe? I like Kate bishop.

Lazarus
East of West
Manhattan Projects
Trillium
Invincible

You're already reading three of my actual top five though :P

The way understood it, the reason that Kate was freaking out on Bette there was she felt that Bette would be better off if she gave up the Flamebird persona. She was trying to shake Bette's confidence and force her to feel she needs to quit since she no longer has Kate's support. I can't remember exactly what precipitated this scene but there was something that lead me to read it that way.

Edited for clarity.

Off the top of my head, my top 5 that are not on that list are:
1. Superior spiderman (understandable if its not for you).
2. Harbinger (great team book)
3. Thor: God of Thunder
4. Young Avengers
5. New Avengers

So Young Avengers is good? Is Kate in it much? I like her more than Hawkguy. I really do need to start reading Thor.

Oh I meant to ask, Locke & Key. You guys like that? I was looking at it in the store the other day and I liked the art. I might get the first trade trade of that.

Kate had gotten her ass handed to her-slash-almost drowned if I remember correctly. And yeah, I could see that interpretation, but her subsequent emotional break down with Maggie suggested that her own confidence had been shaken.

Batman Beyond Universe (Go back and read Batman Beyond Unlimited)
Green Arrow (Start with #17)
Wonder Woman (Start at #1)
Earth 2 (Start with #1)
Worlds' Finest (Start with #1)

Locke & Key is great. Safe buy, imo.

Yeah but Kate isn't good about being honest with her insecurity. It makes sense that she would take it out on someone else rather than actually deal with the real problem. It's very human and relatable.

Agreed. Still liked Bette more than I liked Kate. :P

Pretty sure the Flambird slashing came after she broke with Kate. She was all, I'm gonna show her! And then almost died.

Correct. But I was totally on #TeamBette at that moment and blamed Kate for what happened. Bette was out trying to stop the child murders while Kate was getting her sexy time on. Did love those panels, I must say, the switching back and forth between sexy time and Bette getting savaged.

I love the cover to issue #9
