Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

I just realised that we got Rayman Origins for free on PS+ Vita, will definitely download this and play it. The new one looks lovely but I am unsure, this looks like the best way of getting into the series :)

Is it me, or are some instability issues with downloading directly on the Vita? My downloads either scream, or just sit there seemingly idle. Don't have issues with other platforms over the same WIFI connection.

Never played the series before, they are turn-based RPG basically, like FF right? Art looks lovely from the trailers and footage out there.

Art is beautiful. :) Turn based battles are just like older FF titles but the tone of the PS3 Atelier games is much different. Less saving the world, more of living a life.

So if you don't mind a not so plot heavy (but nonetheless interetsing) jRPG with ever so slighly cutsie art that has a big emphasis on crafting items, then make sure to give it a shot.

Starlight Inception posted that the Vita beta will be submitted to Sony tomorrow or Tuesday the latest. I really want this to be good. A portable space shooter sim...please be good.

Awwwww yisssssssssssssss. So sad I didn't contribute, but any and all news related to that is awesome! Can't wait!

I have an imported US copy of Dragon's Crown and it patched for me. Playing with an AU account.

The patch isn't live in the US. WTF?!

Anyone who didn't buy Rayman in one of the many sales is a monster. :P

My Vita stuff is fine... usually pretty consistent.

Hmm, is the vita version of the walking dead save from that save bug the pc version had?

Also some impressions of how the game is on the vita?

I love the game. It's my first go through (on Vita), but I had no issue. It has pauses and loading (cutscenes---->QTE), but the graphics are crisp and native resolution. I played the entirety using the sticks and earned a platinum. I will replay the game again; however, it's an emotionally heavy game, with one of the best stories I've been presented (any medium) hands down - so it'll take time to go back.

I loved it - bought it on Vita digitally on PSN (19$), then physically (25$). The game is 2.3 GB and includes bonus 400 Days episode in both digital/physical formats.

Highly recommended - will never trade it in. I bought it (also) physically to share with my partner on the spare Vita. I find he should also experience the game. It's intimate and immersive - especially with good headphones.

I played the first episode when it released on 360 and held off, hoping Vita would eventually see it. I avoided all media regarding the game and man, the wait paid off in spades. Excellent, excellent game.

Will wait until free on PS+ but thanks for the comments. I have it on PC but I don't think that's the right platform for this game.

So it took me 2 days to download Killzone, my Vita kept doing that thing where it pauses the download for no fecking reason, didn't matter whether I left it on to sleep on its own or not. I used to read people complaining about this problem a lot but it never happened to me, now it starts happening on 2.61 or whatever software version we're on? Just bizarre.

This is very aggravating indeed, as it only happens to me on my home network. At my ladies place, it works a-ok no problem. Just odd.

I keep forgetting to download to ps3 because the concept of downloading directly to the device you wish to play the game on is just too damn convenient.

I've been wondering for a while if Sony haven't fixed a couple of these annoying bugs because the UI is getting a major overhaul with the ps4 release...

Well, that's what I'm hoping for anyway!

Just got to open up Rayman Legends and get into it. What a fantastic game for the Vita. You are crazy if you own a Vita and now buy this game.

I just finished LEGO Lord of the Rings fellow GAFfers. It was a neat adventure. I mostly played this for the amazing Soundtrack and voice acting.

It was also a very relaxing game, good for when you just don't want to play anything tense or violent.

The first patch that came out a while back, that improved MP latency and removed the narration in the town every single time you walk into the main area.

I don't know if I had that patch install when I bought the game automatically -- however, I know Japan has gotten a new patch that rebalances the wizard amongst other things. That's the patch I want, dammit!

Does it run well on Vita? And when are those levels getting added? I'm thinking about grabbing it but $36 is a bit steep for a Vita game. Wish it was cross buy or at least cross play.

A bit steep? It's normal retail and $25 cheaper than every other version out there except the PC version.

And nobody has any clue when the patch with invasion mode is coming. Your guess is as good as mine there.

That's the normal price for a retail Vita game (actually a little cheaper than some, since not all of them include the 10% digital discount). It runs amazingly well on Vita. It's an incredible game. We don't know when the levels are coming; we just know they are. Maybe on the 12th, which is the new date for the game's release in EU? Who knows.

It runs very well, and you get an amazing amount of content for the price, even without the extra levels being patched in.

Yeah, I've got it on PC. I was pretty shocked that the 360 and PS3 versions were $60. Not that I don't think the game is worth every penny but Origins did pretty well for them when they dropped the price after release so I'm not sure why they are doing the same thing again.

got the hardest trophy out of the way

Rayman legends Platinum coming soon-ish

Thanks a lot. Your impression made me almost go buy the game on this instant xD.

But first i must wait that my 32gb card gets delievered so i can download it, but i guess i'll finally try the game.

Only played half of the first episode on ipad and guessed i would prefer playing with a control.
Guess i'll give my vita some more gaming to do.

From the obscure features thread!

You can put a PS1 disc in your PS3, and it'll stream it to your PSP (remote play). I always thought you needed to Digital Downloaded versions to do that but nope.

Also, while the PS1 disc is in your PS3, head on over to Audio and you can rip the tracks/music from the PS1 disc, which i always thought was kinda cool.

Front Mission 3 disc remote playing on my vita!!!!

This is amazing. Never knew this.

Soul Sacrifice has been officially put back in my normal rotation. I put it on the back burner a while ago cause I'm dumb. Passing about 4 hours in a car while playing it sure made me remember why I loved it so much, and made me ponder why I hung it up. Back log, I guess? I dunno, it was somethig lame I suppose.

Also, decided to take a break by spelunking some. Did the best I've done in a while. Only got to 3-2, but did it from 1-1 in pretty short order. Had about 40 bombs, and 12 ropes, shorty and hulk hands. And was totally blown away when I noticed a little detail in the ice caves...

The ice in some background parts reflects a distorted image of your character. I ran back and forth in front of the entrance for about 30 seconds just looking at it. Really nice detail there.

vitabros, should I get a Wii U? (weird I ask this here.. but hey you guys are family <3)

I like mine quite a bit, but I hate some things about it (but most have to do with Nintendo's policies in general). I like it way more than 3DS, though.

Would I recommend it? If you like 3DS, definitely. It's much better. Everything 3DS does wrong with hardware (bad screen, bad controls, uncomfortable), Wii U gets right. It still has the backwards policies Nintendo is famous for, though. There's no custom soundtracks (or music support, period), no video player, no DVD or Blu-Ray player, no folders, no proper account system, Club Nintendo - while cool - isn't integrated into the eShop like it should be, no trophy system, etc.

I'm not talking about Puzzle & Dragons or some other brand that has no value outside of the iOS avenue. The mainstream market bought a bunch of Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty Vita bundles last year even though the games themselves weren't exactly something special.

AC:L/COD Bundles =/= iOS Ports Bundle. On one hand you have unique games with exclusive content. On the other you have games that are available on devices that are in all likelihood already owned by the potential buyer for such a bundle. If casual gamers do make the decision to buy a Vita it'll be because of exclusive games or optimal console ports. Probably not because of iOS ports.

Conversely, those indie games have been selling sub 20,000 Vitas/month in the US.

Not sure where you're getting this correlation between indie games and Vita sales. Was there a survey of recent buyers asking them whether it was the availability of indie games that made them buy a Vita? Was there an indie game bundle recently (or were you referring to The Walking Dead bundle)? There are many other possible reasons for those sales you mentioned, I'm curious as to what makes you credit indie games.

Hey man, that iOS CoD game is probably better than what Vita ended up getting.

What I'm saying is that indie games have had the entirety of calendar 2013 to sell Vitas, and it's quite clear they haven't. Trying a different strategy that includes well known IP might be worthwhile.

Finally sealed my fate and cancelled PS 4 preorder tonight. Been considering Wii U but i just think id regret paying over 200 for it right now. That Zelda bundle is very very tempting right now. I barely have time for the backlog i have already and any new console purchase right now seems super silly.

Was playing Xcom this weekend, really wishing for vita version or remote play. Need to knuckledown and really play Totori, want to support Meruru but silly to pay full price for it when barely into first one.

Hehe. You're probably right. (Haven't tried either game though.)

I agree that Sony needs to be on their toes and try something different. Personally, I think there's some mainstream cross-over potential in a Minecraft Vita bundle if it's marketed aggressively, and it's a full-featured version and not a mobile port.

I lost hope of them pushing Minecraft on Vita after their Gamescom presentation left the indication that it was just coming to PS4, when that wasn't the reality. Logically you'd want to promote a game that your handheld has and the competition doesn't instead of a game your home console has and so does its nearest competitor, but you know, Sony.

There's no way I could cancel my PS4 preorder. WAY too excited.

This thread has convinced me on the Vita, and is it true that the guys that made DiveKick is porting Borderlands 2 to Vita? I'd love to have this not only for portable gaming, but this seems like the ultimate compliment to your PS4!

Cheers, VitaGAF!

NTT DoCoMo (Vita's 3G carrier) announced that they'll have discounted 3G data plan for PS Vita, effective from October.
This indicates that 3G model won't be abandoned at least in Japan (actually it's more like they want to push it).

Indeed they are, and welcome.

In another thread you said SCEJ's stopped shipping Vitas in Japan. Do you have a source for that? I assumed that the drop off in sales had to do with the Toukiden bundles clearing the channels or something.

So uh, we still ain't got a clue whatsoever as to the identity of Shahid's mysterious can't-wait game, huh. Other than it's not a port---allegedly---what do we know about this?
