Your favorite obscure console feature

Not sure I understand. Why do you need to do that to use youtube on your TV? What happened to the browser on the PS3?

It's far, far easier to use your phone to browse.

The PS3 browser is shit. Browse on your phone, select a video, it plays on your ps3. Easy.

Changing the icon that represents your VMU in the Dreamcast OS. There were a lot of choices. By the time the console was well and truly dying, I had picked up so many games for so cheap that I needed a half-dozen VMUs, so it was useful as well.

3DS pedometer, everything about the software is very well thought out, use it every day
webstore+download list in transaction management mean i never have to use the abomination that is the PS3 store app ever again
the open front port on my Famicom, which means i can use my 3rd party Hori rapidfire gamepad!

The cubes used to freak me out as a kid when they turned red.

Huh..ok.

Youtube on the Wii U browser must have blown some peoples minds then.

It's great, yeah.

However, lets forget the PS3 for a minute, just getting your phone out and quickly browsing YouTube, finding a video and throwing it to your Smart TV, regardless of what's already on? That is awesome.

And it's perfect for parties too.

There is a lot of really cool mentions in here, I must say.

The awesome PS2 save icons

Yeah, I remember these lol. I only ever had two PS2 memory cards so sometimes I would have to delete some of my old save data to make room for new stuff. I don't really miss memory cards all that much now though, I found they were more of a pain in the ass than anything else now that you can upload and backup saves onto the cloud and onto a USB drive anyways.

Yup, I used to use that feature on my PS3 until I got an Apple TV, makes it even simpler/faster.

Soft reset: A + B + Start + Select or L1 + R1 + L2 + R2 + Start + Select

Probably my most used 'hidden' feature before the guide/home buttons came about.

A B C Start on the Saturn. I didn't know any other Saturn owners that knew of the feature at the time. Then again, I didn't know any other Saturn owners.

Old PS3 browser's debug feature, kindly revealed by a developer at the BBC who forgot to turn off debugging ;-)..

Debugging can be turned on with: javascript:window.external.webbrowser.startDebugging(); (no prizes for guessing how to turn it off).

PS3 Browser - Memory.jpg

As well as memory usage (as shown above), it also has a trace and exception display, which typically stays on-screen for the right amount of time, minus five seconds (never found a way to pause display).:

Dragoon512 (from PS3Hax) and I have just recently been trying to find any hidden features of the new WebKit browser (doesn't have same debug feature. but works great with NeoGAF when used with bookmarklet) and hardly earth shattering, but you can do a find text with javascript:find("something")...

You can put a PS1 disc in your PS3, and it'll stream it to your PSP (remote play). I always thought you needed to Digital Downloaded versions to do that but nope.

Also, while the PS1 disc is in your PS3, head on over to Audio and you can rip the tracks/music from the PS1 disc, which i always thought was kinda cool.

MIND BLOWN™

Also, PS2 clock is The Clock™

The flying orbs and rotating crystal rods make up a representation of chronological and mathematical elements.

All the bits of plastic for the Wii are shaped like a Wii from the plugs to the Wiimote straps. Pretty cool.

I like secret Mario Tune in the DSi's voice recorder if you hovered over a recording. Shame they got rid of that for the 3DS.

I am now playing THPS2 on my Vita.

I don't know how to thank you.

Not really obscure, but the backwards compatibility on the PS2. I only had an N64 the previous gen, and the PS2 allowed me to play some of my would-be all time favorite games.

Activity log on the 3DS and Wii U if that counts.

The 3DS one is 100 times superior though. The 3DS activity log should be a standard feature of all next gen systems IMO.

Just tried with MGS1 (ripping the tracks, that is) and it's not working :(

The ability to reset my Super Nintendo without getting up. Just hold on to the controller's wire, swing through the air, BAM. One reset console.

It worked on Tomb Raider II :)

Also, the video editor and uploader is good. Soul Calibur V lets you save replays out as video files, which you can then edit and upload to youtube direct from the PS3...

....which basically means that when it comes to SCV, the PS3 is the source, capture device and uploader all in one :)

People didn't know this? mind blown.

I tried it out when they added remote play with smackdown. Lagged so bad it was unplayable :( I wonder if it's any better now...

This thread is awesome. Someone mentioned the DS making a special jingle when you start it up on your birthday. I felt like I discovered a secret when this first happened to me.

Something sort of nice: Press the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons at the same time on the Vita to mute it.

Pairing Youtube to my phone/tablet/laptop through my PS3 and playing music/videos through my tv is awesome and I use it daily. What not-so-marketed feature of a given console is your favorite?

I never knew about this! Thanks!

On second thought, thanks for making my Wii U useless.

Using the PSP/Vita for creating playlists on Singstar on the PS3. Really good for parties, you can just pick a song and then walk away waiting for your turn with the vita showing the next songs to be played.

That's... no fecking way. Will try with Digimon World 2003 on a Vita when I get one.

Wii U's TV remote function. Even though my actual TV remote is always just sitting on the coffee table, I'll use the GamePad to turn the TV on/off and change inputs if needed. *shrugs*

PSones save file system. More specifically with FFVII and VIII (never had IX till recently)and how depending on what block the game was saved it the picture would he different:
