PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

All those Vita ports of indie games on this little box - yum. Certainly does put the Ouya library into perspective.

Not something I would buy though, I only have one TV in the house and that will have a PS4 under it soon.

Still, it would be perfect for things like kids bedrooms. They need some more child friendly software on Vita quickly.

Playing Vita games is cool as well, but I would really like it if I could finally catch up on some of the older games as well. We should have a "GAF recommended Psp / Psx games to play on TV" thread when this thing is released!

The handheld has the major advantage of having a good PPI. 544p will look terrible on a 50'' screen. And then consider that some Vita games render at sub-544p.
 
I hope they patch as many games as possible with additional control methods so they can be played without the need of the touchscreen and touchpad.
 
WHAT ? is this really a console independent of any other device ? meaning you don't have to own a vita or a ps4 to actually play it ? :V

I couldn't believe how much of this info was out there (though it's all from pre-NSA leaks... MS has STFU about data collecting since then). So check that out if you want to.

TV manufacturers defo have to start whipping out TVs with 6+ HDMI inputs. In theory 10 would be a good number, as high as it sounds.

2nd generation of HD consoles (with no BC) + a wave of sub $100 boxes slays any tech enthusiast.

Is there anything extra nice on the HDMI switch market?

PSV TV: Play PSP-V + PS4 games on one of the free tvs in your house, or play PS4 games on your PSV wherever.

PS4 thing is only for streaming/remote play also yes that's the idea. Although a lot of touch screen games won't be compatible atm

calling it vita tv is easier to market that thing. consumers already know what a vita can do, so you don't have to start from scratch with all the explaining, if it was called ps box or ps tv.

Not an excuse. Why the hell would somebody buy a Vita TV if they were planning on buying a PS4? They could have released the DS4 in the box (assuming they have enough mass-produced to go around) and left PS3 behind, instead they're contributing to the fragmentation of PS products.

It wouldn't be $200 with a DS4 though. The DS3 is still an expensive piece of hardware (though markup is still high because there's no competition) and from what I can guess at most of the hardware included is similar in cost to manufacture. Currently a DS3 costs $39-55 (MSRP is still $59 I believe?) and they're bringing DS4 out at a catch-the-sucker-early-adopter price of $59, so it doesn't seem like it'd tip the scales to include it.

Plus, it'd be the RIGHT controller for the game platform being launched here. Instead, not only is Vita TV a lesser game system that it could have been because it can't play the entire Vita library, but it's also potentially an albatross on Vita game development since game developers now have to cut touch features (not that those have all gone swimmingly, but Vita is what it is and this goes against what the system was designed as) in order to make their game compatible with both. Including DS4 wouldn't have been a perfect fit, but it would have done more of the job of making this a completely viable new product that compliments the PlayStation's new directions without tripping up either Vita or PS4's momentum.

Hey man for what it's worth I know you were and always will be legit. But don't let the 'leaking' info thing get you down. You are not doing a disservice to anyone, in fact you most probably help the game devs and the fans alike. You never over stepped your boundaries either. Much Respect

Sony just took on Apple TV and Roku. Sony is centering it's electronics around the PS4 and getting smart. Oh, and for everyone in this thread saying that Sony is a software company. They've been a hardware and electronics company way longer.
 
does gravity daze use the touchscreen? i'd buy one of these to play that and the new deception game in a heartbeat. kind of sucks that it doesn't play psn games though. it would have been nice to be able to take vf and vs with me wherever i go.

psvita actually sell okay after the price cut in japan isn't it? it's just the culture difference probably, Japan is more into portable device than the west, so the solution is just to make options for both is my guess.

This sounds like a way smarter revision of a system than the 2DS was. Was going to pick up a regular Vita after the price cut but this sounds way more convenient for my current situation.

Sort of funny just how much Sony is hitting it out of the park at the beginning of this gen compared to the clusterfuck of dumb ideas I remember back in '06.

but there is still gaikai...

when crazepharmacist thinks about it, ps4 will use gaikai and can remote play to vita...which may work the same way as ps4 doing gaikai and streaming to psvita tv.

The thing that attracts me the most is a 100 dollar Vita, and not having to worry about batterylife.

Now I just wait for any good Vita games, lol. Tearaway maybe.

I actually don't think Sony is trying to compete against the Apple TV this is more for the PS ecosystem/vita than just to compete with those other boxes. Playing PS content from the store for cheap is really smart
