PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

That said, verendus sucks - he doesn't give anything specific and has been coasting off of what legit folk like myself have been posting. CBoaT is the greatest internet personality of alltime but he hasn't had a banner year and he clearly isn't a sony insider because it was logistically impossible for the PS4 to come out in October... so he was just repeating industry rumors. Not that I've never been wrong, because I have, and CBoaT is still the king. But I hate that i even care about this shit and compare myself.

Also... Sony just killed it, again, with a ton of games without having to reveal any of their huge first party games. Anyone doubting this lineup is high. And in a final move of disgusting self promotion, if you haven't heard of NUad you should read this. Microsoft wants you to pay $100 so they can advertise to you... it's well sourced. I couldn't believe how much of this info was out there (though it's all from pre-NSA leaks... MS has STFU about data collecting since then). So check that out if you want to.

If only they'd have come up with a method of attaching a PS3 to a PS Vita TV so that PS3 games could be streamed to my PS4, then I'd be living the dream..
 
Holy crap, this is good.

This is want nintendo should do with their next console same hardware both mobile and home console versions.

I won't buy this, I don't need it git it's a good idea which could be a lot more interesting in the future with another hardware for casuals.

Just kidding. Playing Battlefield 4 at night in bed still sounds wonderful.

Decent point, but if it's trying to grow and expand its ecosystem these becomes a threat. I'm not looking at it's ability to play games, but the ability to stream Hulu and Netflix in addition to games is pretty powerful.

Good to know, thanks. I probably won't pick one up... hm... I mean I'd love TV out on the Vita itself but I bet the Vita TV has some specialized hardware in it to do that, and Sony doesn't seem willing to do that with the Vita proper (if the new model is any indication).

well for 100 dollars I might pick it up. I wonder if they'll be improving the PS1 and PSP emulators to allow higher resolutions and AA along with this.

Stop perpetuating this! DS4 and DS3 are not the same controllers, and Sony is not making DS3 compatible at this time on PS4 so why would it work with this system? It's POSSIBLE, but given what Sony is not doing with its controllers elsewhere, it's NOT likely.

ALso, yes, the PS4 isn't shipping in Japan in time, but nothing would stop them from putting the PS4's controller in this box if it needed it. This is a system they're selling to cheap people as an as-is system, they're not expecting the vast majority of them to ever go out and buy a new controller. So even if it does support DS4, that still means the controller in the box that 99% of the audience is using with it does not support any touch functions or other needs a Vita game expects to be part of the platform. Fully expecting touch to be "launched" when PS4 arrives is ludicrous -- it'll be nice for the few who want God Eater on a big screen and have both PS Vita and Vita TV (and there will be benefits of having Slingbox-style placeshifting of PS4 games through Remote Play,) but the larger percentage of Vita TV owners will be people looking for a cheap system, you really expect these people to buy a Vita TV and a PS4?
 
So this thing pretty much kills the touchpads on the Vita, right ? Who would program their game to be touch-dependant for some features when it would render it incompatible with this little beauty ?

In any case, I'll be getting one, and I already own a launch Vita. :)

The press release says that the Vita TV is compatible with the dualshock 4. So ha. :)

Well, if it makes any difference you catapulted to one of the most reliable GAF insiders we have. And for that I and I'm sure many others are genuinely grateful and appreciate your efforts. Whatever you feel about the leaks, just know that ultimately we forum posters are the one's who lust after it. Don't feel guilty about liking the attention it gets you, just see it as you providing a service that few can offer and that all of us on here wish we could have more of. It absolutely sucks being completely in the dark, so all the insiders on GAF just bring that extra bit of excitement and clarity to an otherwise cloudy new generation and launch.


With respect to your sister in law, I can only offer my sincerest and deepest condolences. I have no idea if you're a religious man or not, but my prayers are with her and your family, and I don't just say that sparingly or in token fashion, I genuinely will keep her in my thoughts and prayers later today.

Whilst I haven't lost a family member through such circumstances, I have had situations very close. I've also known friends who have had loved one's murdered in other circumstances, one who lost her mother and sister to a burglary that turned violent, another who's father was murdered in a mob gang land grab abroad. Such incidents are devastating, but those involved can still work to getting past it and getting on with life. I know my friends have. That said, I can't pretend to know how you feel, but I hope justice is done and that your family and you can find peace.
 
I got couple of questions;
Can I use my PSP (UMD) and play it on this or does it need to be bought on Vita store, digital PSP games?
Can they update 1080p through a software update?
How will this play any touch screen related gimmicks such as Uncharted and Tearaway?
Isn't the resolution going to look horrible? Or does it have some kind of emulation that ups the resolution of PS1 and PSP games?
What about Vita games? Are they going to look with jaggies and badly cuts on TV?

Dude DS3 is compatible at launch with the Vita TV, there's even a bundle that includes it I believe. What are you talking about?

Tearaway likely won't work due to touch features. You'll still need a Memory card

Persona is fine though. Never need touch functionality at all

Hopefully it will let you use the Vita itself as a controller for Vita games in the future (via bluetooth).

Otherwise I don't really see how this could take off given that half the Vita games (if not more) won't work.
 
I'll finally get to play Persona 4 Golden and Soul Sacrifice.

A smart move if you ask me. The current VITA exclusives have already sold me on it.

I haven't been on GAF long but you always seemed like a stand-up guy, and #PS4NoDRM would not have happened if not for your coordination. All this gaming talk is great fun, but it's not and should not be a life priority--when you have other more important things, those always take precedence. Lucky, I have a super nice receiver, but only 4 HDMI inputs but have 7 HDMI devices hooked up now. Xbox One and PS4 are going to push me to 9.

While it would be nice, to have the option to stream 1080p games within the house,
I am not sure my network would cope with all the kids streaming youtube and playing online at the same time. Having an even framerate is a deal breaker to me.
 
Does that mean games wont have that crap feature of holding your vita up to a light (Uncharted and AC Lib i'm looking at you) to see stuff that simply doesn't work.
 
It should be mentioned (in case you didn't see the pic or video) that this thing has a Ethernet port on it. This is going to be massive in terms of multiplayer gaming on the VITA and download speeds.
 
Possibly boosting Vita userbase while reducing touchscreen garbage?

Win-win for Vita owners. Tho personally I have no use for Vita TV since I am perfectly fine with OG Vita.

Someone pointed out that the DS4 might be is compatible with the Vita TV for games that require touch. (Vita TV ships in Japan before the release of the PS4 hence DS3 compatibility.)
 
Oh I sooo want this! :D

But not including a controller with touch pad is kind of stupid, nearly all my Vita games will be unplayable :( unless they let me use the Vita as a controller?

Fair enough, didn't see the press release.

Put it in the box then. Compatible does no good if it's not in the box. No reason to wait for PS4 to launch in Japan, this is its own system and it should have the right controller packed in, so pull DS4s off the assembly line instead of DS3s, eat up front the little cost (both controllers MSRP for $59 so there might not even be a significant cost discrepancy,) and put the right package together. Not having touch on a system where the majority of games use touch breaks the continuity. People will not buy a second controller with this type of set-top box. Do not hurt the Vita line by leaving touch out of the TV version of the games.

While that's an option, it's not for everyone. Not everyone values sound as much and sometimes even if you have a receiver and a whole home cinema setup in your living room for example, you can still have (or someone in your house) a shit-load of HDMI devices in their bedroom.

IDK, it baffles me to see TV sets being sold in 2013 with 3 HDMI inputs.
