PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

Awesome idea, awesome price, kick-ass all around. It also gives yet another avenue for PS Mobile games probably... which is super cool. Hopefully they revamp their video/movies store too with their new digital push. Buying an HD movie on Saturday and getting a 2.1 release sucked...

I don't know if it has been asked or answered but is that the PS4's AUX in for like the PS4 Camera?

second from the left.

Main slots and connectors:
  • Playstation Vita Card Slot
  • Memory Card Slot
  • USB Connector (USB 2.0 Type A)
  • HDMI out (CEC)
  • LAN (10/100)

Wait, not even gigabit ethernet?

Feels sort of like Playstation Mobile. An idea that makes perfect sense, but just didn't catch on. People seem to be excited about cheap set-top box gaming like they were with "real" console style games on smart phones so put Playstation behind that and release it.

I hope it's the kick Vita needs for GTAs, MGSs, FFs, and the like.

In case the OUYA wasn't dead already, this is the final nail in the coffin.

Don't say that! I just bought one 3 weeks ago! "Sobs" (It's so fucking true.)

You can't stream Vita games to a TV over a PS4.

Aww poo.

It's probably ben said before, but now you can get a PS4 AND a Vita TV for the price of an X-Box One. Sony is killing the competition this coming generation.

This is fundamentally the direction I've been expecting Nintendo to go in for a while: when they get to the point that they can produce a handheld with Wii U's power, they're pretty much there. Two systems for two purposes with development covering both.

But the DS3 is compatible and they have a bundle with one. If I were a Vita dev, I'd make sure my game could be played by the most people possible, by making sure the game can be played without any touch at all.

Ah, I missed the part where it's compatible with the DS3. I can't imagine that one of the console's core inputs would be ignored like that for the sake of compatibility, though.

What?! Why does this exist? I'M TOTALLY GETTING ONE. But WTF is Sony smoking?

Saving the Vita.

This is a very aggressive move from Sony and awesome value for only 100/150 bucks.
I'm gonna buy this as soon as it comes out.

The VitaTV announcement is amazing! Can see myself getting this for a number of reasons.

1. It's cheap. (Still needs a Vita memory card though)
2. It's portable. So I can show off Vita games on a friends TV without having them huddle around the tiny handheld.
3. You can still play against other Vita's. Plus it supports 2 controllers for PS1 games.
4. Remote play on TV for PS4.

It's kinda like a cheap Vita home console, am I right? Wonder how the account system is gonna work on this.

The official release says only 2 controller support. Who know if that's a hard limit or if a solution to move to 4 could be patched in later.

Boo! What a missed opportunity. Spelunky also supports four player games. Come on, didn't the PS3 support like, 7 controllers or something ridiculous!

Edit: Though it's a very good question how multiplayer would be supported.... Would games have to patch it in? I have to imagine it would work a totally different way.

This is perfect for me, the Vita has always been a steep purchase and I game at home anyway. I've always wanted to catch up on Vita games, not to mention all the ones I've got from PS+.

wow, yeah, didn't even think about what this could mean to nintendo, i do tend to see them merging handheld/console at some point

also P4Golden on big screen will totally be my replay one day

Sssh, quiet...no questions... and let us buy one together.

as a man who does not play video games, this is perfect for you~

Well done Sony!

Seriously, I say this as someone who's never owned a non Nintendo platform. This is the kind of stuff it takes to drive gaming forward.

My god, absolutely brilliant.
Sony is on a fucking roll right now. First the PS4 and now this god-tier piece of PlayStation hardware. I'll own them both, day one.

What?! Why does this exist? I'M TOTALLY GETTING ONE. But WTF is Sony smoking?

It's a more elegant solution to linking Vita with PS4.
Instead of simply making most PS Vita games cross platform (PS3/PS4 versions too) there's this way of having your Vita games on the big screen - so Vita software isn't overshadowed by console versions.
It also means people who prefer to game on the go can buy an actual Vita still, and then have this little device for at home.

They're doing damage havi g the dualshock3 in the photo.

Well this is one clever way to bring down the price of the Vita, though I don't know what space in the market this will occupy. Has potential, though.

Whats your hype level guys? I'm sitting at 5 mountain dews out of 5.

4/5. If I had a better idea of what Vita game compatibility will look like and it could do something with my semi-useless collection of UMD games I'd be sitting comfortably at a 5.

Fake edit: I like that Ys is compatible. So dumb that Wipeout isn't, probably because the menu is touch only and since Studio Liverpool is gone they aren't going to bother updating it.

Considering this seems more a household device compared to normal Vita's with it's Remote Play and TV streaming option, I wonder if we'll finally be allowed to have multiple accounts? Because to this day from the Vita announcement, being locked to a single account at a time is the most annoying thing about the Vita by far.

My brother will actually want to play some games now since they can do so on a TV with a DS3/DS4. there has to be multiple account options. Right?
not gonna happen...

Wondering how they'll handle touch controls and how the games will look on a big tv.
This is interesting and unexpected. Good price too.

As a Vita owner with a few carts, I'm really happy there's a card slot with this. I very much could have imagined Sony pulling a PSP Go here and just making it a PSN only device.

With so many games that I have because of plus membership this look's really sweet for 100$. Specially if it can stream movies from PC or some portable USB devices

To be honest, I don't think this is a games first machine at the price they're talking about, it's a cheap media box for your TV, that just happens to play the Vita library. and stream PS4 to another room.

it is also a streamer for media via dlna i guess... streamer for ps4... and native vita/psp/psx games.

perfect way to add ps4 to another room, and/or another console for kids to play with (and their ps+ games :P)
