Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

I meant climbing on enemies ala Dragons Dogma :(

I fell in love with SS since the demo so more SS is always a thing on my list. Delta or 2, I dont care just give it to me!!! Lol

Oh, well, sorry... I could only think of that training map on MHFU and the climbing that I wasn't really a fan of. Haven't played Dragon's Dogma, so I couldn't really comment then.

I'm kind of worried about what Delta is going to do to the existing community/userbase... will people who own SS be able to upgrade and import their existing characters? These are the details I need...

I beat my high score, but it was bitter sweet.

I had been going for a very sweet run, opening and ghosting every vault I could find. Found the jetpack early and was on mark to smash my record. Unfortunately, a careless mistake in the ice caves caused me to get frozen by a mammoth which led me to use my extra life (ankh) one level earlier than required. This greatly reduces your score. Not only do you not get to go to the city of gold, but you don't get to kill the final boss
and score all those wonderful rubies!

Knowing my run would ultimately be cut short, I decided to go into the mother ship. My track for this level is pretty low, but doing so not only nets you more money but also causes you to repeat area 3-4.

I had to take down Olmec with only 5 bombs as the crates above him yielded no bombs. I took him down with 2 lol

you'll see me on the leaderboards as the only person to have such a high score and only make it to 4-4. I'm led to believe that, had I not messed up, success was assured at least #2 spot. I would have had about 1.3 million, if not more. I was up to 23 hearts, which is also a new record.

Bombs on Olmec? WTF? Never tried this.
I've only made it to him twice, mind you.
Where's that Esoteric Guide to Spelunky, friend? ;)

I'm in the mind that Sony has done exactly the right thing with the Vita 2000.

Lighter and thinner.
Slight convenient redesigns.
More battery life.
Built in memory.
Not so much built in memory to make memory cards obsolete.
Enough memory to hold one or two small download games and a hundred save games, actively delaying the need to buy a memory card out of the box.
Same price.

EDIT: Also kind of annoyed at Siliconera pinning silly MH4 news at the top of their site, even though there's 2 new Vita models, a PS4 release date, plenty of new games that could go there instead...

Thinking about getting the Vita 2000. Can I effortlessly swap consoles by just putting my memory card in the other vita without needing to go through a bunch of hoops?

Thank god that Hulu was confirmed again for the Vita.

Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll. Amazon Video and Crackle should be good as well.

well, you don't bomb olmec, but the ground under him (easy mode). Having him smash the ground requires you have a jetpack or a lot of ropes so you don't die in the process. i had him clear out a wide area with his smash while flying back up to the top and taking out the creatures he spawns so as not to have another accident.

apologies for not having progress on the guide as of yet. the mrs was at a penn state game all day saturday and I had both kids. sunday didn't afford me much free time (besides that 63 minutes run at 970k)

i did learn to perfect that 0 heart 0 bomb shopkeeper kill :-D. I'm actually more proud of that than my run.

I will make efforts to upload at least some pictures tonight and start on the write-up

Just woke up. Crazy night with that press conference. How my Vitabros doing with all this?

Im pretty golden, the 64gb card, Vita TV sounds really interesting (I can bascially use it as an extra console in our bedroom), lots of cool game announcements, and we still have TGS, and the japanese indie event later this month.

Been a great couple of months imo.

I'm interested to hear more about the comparisons between the Vita 2000 LCD screen compared to the OLED.

If the LCD is as good... I think I may wanna upgrade (but darn, my Vita dock is useless now)

EDIT: With the VitaTV, it's time for me to sell the OUYA right?

I did the same not long ago, and my oh my what a great thing to see. I'm tempted to get the VitaTV just because..I don't really need it, and likely wont ever need it....but still! It looks pretty rad, and I'm sure it would get use if I did pick one up. As for the other Vita, I'm totally happy with mine, no real worries there, but it'll be great for new buyers. New games, bigger memory cards, I mean what's not to like about this!?

oh wow it's trending

Well, pretty good.

- Vita TV looks like a nice idea for several fencesitters on the vita
- Soul Sacrifice Delta and PSNova is Day 1
- 64GB Mem Card

Still kinda sad that Square and Capcom still giving the cold shoulder, but Tecmo Koei and Sega support is awesome.

It would be really nice if they slashed the prices of the memory cards a good 50% but oh well that's too much to ask. Really wonder what's keeping the prices for them up...
(1) Purely for them to profit?
(2) Keeping retailers/publishers happy? -high memory card prices means less digital sales? (This doesn't make sense)

I hope the VitaTV attracts more developers to jump on the platform, especially those new Kickstarter projects! Sony really needs to get that Unity deal done. The VitaTV as a low-cost console, together with the PlayStation branding, may just be THE choice for indies wanting to enter the home console market! (Hope more Kickstarter projects would support the VitaTV rather than just the WiiU - bring me some Shovel Knight, Might Switch Force, Shantae, Gunlord and Mighty No.9!)

It would be nice if the bundled the VitaTV with the DS4 instead, the controls would easily map 1-1. I am curious how local multiplayer will change with this though...

Will the VitaTV eat into the home console sales, you think?

They couldn't bundle DS4 with the Vita TV yet...cause Vita TV launches in Nov, but PS4 only launches on 22 Feb 2014 in that region!

I'd absolutely buy one bundled with a DS4!

Trailer of the Vita 2.0: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkVTNab0JTs

I dont think the mystery port is gone, not confirmed at least. That PS Vita flap(which looks pretty nice) at 0:11, 0:30 is hiding things. The flap is big enough to cover both the vita slot and the mystery port. Or they redesigned to move the vita game slot to the center. Very nice music to the trailer, wish they post the songs name in these kinds of trailers.

The other thing off putting me from getting this vita redesign is the curvy top. I like my flat edged vita to this curvy update.

Speaking of Hulu, we need HBO GO support announced for both PS4 and Vita.

100% agreed.

i actually just stopped subbing to HBO to save some money... but this NEEDS to happen.

i woulda totally gotten more use out of Go if it was on my tv and not ipad.

very excited for the 64gb card.... everything is meh imo.

prefer the hard edged opposed to the rounded body of the redesign. the start/select buttons look fugly too. just lots of incremental improvements, most of which i see are regressions. Vita TV is cool... don't like that they went with the Vita name. def a niche product... also - does it play PSN games? i havent read that anywhere. the price is right enough for me to get one though as a mini console if i had a second tv...would defeat the purpose of my vita though since i mainly play that at home. also - how does resolution get dealt with in this type of situation?

I think Vita TV is a very good thing for us Vita owners. Not only will we probably see more games, but we will get more entertainment options (Hulu Plus will probably finally come), and we could see a multi-account system be implemented.

The charger/post micro usb port is enough of a change to make me get one. My propietary charger for the 1000 is starting to peel off at the base cause of the shape and position of it.

I just booted up my Vita for the first time in a week today and I got some missions done in Soul Sacrifice and I got a couple more trophies in DJ Max

I think I will pick up a Vita TV when it comes out, I wouldn't mind being able to play some games at home and some games on the go (like Soul Sacrifice, Ys, FFX HD, and P4G)

I've just realised that the type of game I really want for the Vita is a career-based realistic racing game. Like Gran Turismo, or Forza.

I'd play that for hours.

I've only just bought a Vita and I'm tempted by the redesign.
I could have one hooked up to my main UK PSN account for retail Vita games and another for my US PSN account for PSone games.

Just woke up. Crazy night with that press conference. How my Vitabros doing with all this?

Vita TV is awesome awesome news. I think its bound to cause some heat in the US market. Affordable and the fuctionality is beyond what's needed. I bound to pick one up eventually...

I really want to see Vita TV take off in the US since we will see an influx of developers trying to get their games on the platform as a result. Vita content is bound to be fully supported now, while still giving the option of portability to OG Vita owners.

I really love the 4th Gen PS Family. Looks freaking awesome

PS4 - PSVita - VitaTV

(IMO PS3 is layover from 3rd gen PS Family)

Vita 2.0 colors are sweet but Im not so sure im impressed with the device itself yet. Im already wary of the LCD screen but I think that could be a decent trade off for lower price. Im still very happy with my OG model, no complaints.

What would you guys advice, buy the original vita or wait?

i'd say OG.

but if youre not itching for a vita, wait for some hands on impressions of new version.

personally there are very few incremental changes made to the newest version that make me want one. even the "longer battery" isnt too enticing as my vita lasts pretty long already. battery duration is not much of an issue. to me it seems the only real issues they rectified are the onboard memory, which is pretty insignificant since youll still be getting a mem card... and the start/select buttons, which are rarely used anyways and their new design to resemble the bubbles is just fugly.

64GB card seems kinda pointless with the 100 bubble limit...

If you have your card full of minis and such, sure.

I have 32gb (really 29gb) practically filled... with 40 bubbles.
If I pull back some of my missing titles like Disgaea 3, NGS+, SFxT, Blazblue, Killzone (sell my physical copy), I'll be hitting 64gb (probably 58gb usable) without a problem really.

Those alone will be 10gb+ without Killzone. If I trade to digital Killzone, that's 15gb+ of the extra 29gb (maybe less) of space with just 5 games added.

Don't underestimate the space requirements of going purely digital! :P

I don't get how people are hitting that limit. Mostly minis and PSM titles, I assume.

I'd hit the storage limit long before I hit 100 bubbles. My 32GB has about 25 games on and it's full to bursting point.

I guess Vita TV's UI being the same as Vita Portable's means we shouldn't expect a UI update in line with the PS4 anytime soon.

Edit: Also next month's title kinda needs to be TV related now. Vita TV TV TV.

seeing my friend play Bastion on Steam really annoys me how the game isn't on the Vita
that art would literally pop on the OLED

on a separate note, I am really enjoying Kickbeat (:

I'm just wondering if LCD technology improved enough over the past few years...
I mean those LCDs on phones are quite good ain't

Any optimism I had regarding a decent LCD is lost on the hideous screen bezel and exposed screws. They're clearly cutting corners with this one.

Alright I might buy the og because of the screen is the burning in a serious problem cause I wouldn't want to buy a new one next year..
And I can get a bundle with killzone mercenary+8 gig and 3g for 199€. Good deal?
