PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

Hmm, I checked the press release but didn't see whether this will have multi voltage like the PS3 Slim (or the other PS3 models?). Will import day one if that's the case.

So, this means Giantbomb can do quicklooks with this thing right? That's great news.

Not sure how this will affect games that REQUIRE use of vita's features like gyro and touch (uncharted, I'm looking at you, as probably the hardest to replicate on this).

Isn't the vita region free? I might consider doing that myself since it comes out there first.

Fully region free, and it'll display in english once you set it.

I mean hell, the JP price is around £60. That is the bargain of the fucking century right there. We will get screwed with the UK price, so importing seems the way to go.

Thank you so much, Sony! This is all I ever ask for in regard to portables: the ability to not use the stupid, tiny uncomfortable things. Now we can all be happy and my Vita can just sit there and look pretty.

So what are the chances of game makers starting to make less graphically intensive games that have support for 720p+ just for this device?

Is there any reason to buy this if you already have a Vita?

Outputting to tv is very cool, but since there are no touch controls there would be so much you couldn't do...

Eh seems to be piggy backing the "home entertainment" thing Microsoft is doing, not a fan....seems like a Roku Box with less channels that plays PS1 games

We have no idea the level of support it will get for US services. Keep in mind that all of the services announced so far are for Japan.

What are the restrictions for PS4 remote play? It says "enjoy most of the PS4 games". Which ones will not work?
The camera games like Playroom won't work on remote play regardless but most PS4 games will function fine.

What a weird device. I guess this is part of their strategy to slowly back out of the dedicated handheld business.

Or expand their market by releasing a very versatile device for a very attractive price. There are people who laugh at Vita while probably wanting to play the games. This is a 100 dollar box that can do what Vita does and then streams your PS4 to any TV. I can't see how this is not a really great idea. If you have invested in a PSV or PS4 then you are adding to the functionality and reach of those devices. Sony is really supporting and expanding the reach by doing this.

I think you'd be surprised (and depressed) at just how few people actually give a shit.

which is gonna suck when all the marketing for ps4 and xbone will be how much better these games look in native 1080p vs shitty old 720p (even though ps3 and xbox promised 1080p lol. heck even 360 tricks your receiver with its upscaler shit).

Why import?

The yen cost is equivalent to £60. Will it be £60 here in the UK?

Hell fucking no! It'll be £120 minimum. We will get fucked as usual...but it's totally region free and runs on motherfucking USB power!

I'm importing that bitch faster than Jesse Pinkman can say "Bitch!"

Suddenly the 2DS doesn't look all that stupid.

No, no, it still does

So I have a question,

Do people here see value in a $100 purchase if they are getting a PS4 but already have a Vita? I'd want to hear thoughts from that group as it's where I fall.

If you want to play vita games on your TV and still be able to stream your PS4 games to a second tv its got great value. I had 3 ps3s in my house at one time and this will be much cheaper alternative

This might be the perfect retrogamer machine.

I wish but that simply wont happen.

I hope they could find a way and patch some of these games to bypass the the touch stuff. Most of Uncharted's "extra" control methods were optional to begin with and gave you two to three different ways to do the same thing.

What the christ is this, announce a video game device out of nowhere month??

Tell me about it.....

So in the trailer it looked like the Dad and Daughter were playing a PSP game with local multiplayer.... Is this possible on Vita TV?? The other trailer showed the 2 guys playing Tekken 2 and I saw PS1 is confirmed, but what about PSP?

If Soul Calibur Broken Destiny and Powerstone Collection can be played multiplayer locally........

Oh my lawd.... I don't want to get excited early......

If you own Vita games, this allows you to play all of them on your tv, whether digital or cart, it will also allow ps4 content to be streamed to other tvs, including games. the value of that will vary person to person.

This is an awesome announcement. Can't wait until it comes stateside and I hope they bring on a ton more TV services especially HBOgo. Any US release date mentioned yet?

Here is why I am getting it.

I have multiple tv's in house. Right now I own 3 ps3 in each area. This means in future I don't have to buy multiple ps4.

Obviously using for vita to TV ( my son like playing on TV more than handheld, for me nope personally)

I am buying it purely to stream ps4 to other tv's.

It's a $99 Netflix/YouTube box with PlayStation game* support, and it can be a PS4 sling box.

That's the elevator pitch.

Yeah for $100 this is pretty much the ultimate sling box.

All those "console on a stick"/mini-console/sling box products (Ouya, Gamestick, BoxyBoxy etc) just got the shit kicked out of them.

For $100 this is an awesome console plus media center. I don't own a Vita and I may very well pick this up.

I notice VIta TV running a full-fledged PS store instead of PS Vita store.
Maybe Vita OS on Vita TV is different abit?

I mean shit, this thing will be a brilliant Netflix device. I can take it to my parents and boot up a film with ease. And then play some Persona to boot.
