PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

Is there any reason to buy this if you already have a Vita?

Outputting to tv is very cool, but since there are no touch controls there would be so much you couldn't do...

PS4 streaming to multiple TVs is the only advantage at that point. Which at 100 bucks... it depends on how badly you want to play PS4 on your other TVs without having to move the actual PS4.

Maybe I'm just in better shape than you guys... lol OH well I don't get it maybe you have a more complex setup than me also.

Yes, clearly we're all fat & lazy because we prefer convenience in technology...especially something that's impulse-purchase priced (i.e. - the cost of a restaurant dinner with the family).

I know you're kidding to some extent but I'll never understand why people are so dismissive towards other people's tasts/interests/etc on the internet...

f you use vita as a controller with it, than you will have touch control working. It's when you use DS3 is the issue. At least that is what I understand

Tell me about it.....

So in the trailer it looked like the Dad and Daughter were playing a PSP game with local multiplayer.... Is this possible on Vita TV?? The other trailer showed the 2 guys playing Tekken 2 and I saw PS1 is confirmed, but what about PSP?

If Soul Calibur Broken Destiny and Powerstone Collection can be played multiplayer locally........

Oh my lawd.... I don't want to get excited early......

Hooooooly crap. Device of the decade then.

what are the use case scenarios where I need to stream my ps4.... to my upstairs tv?

If there are guests in the house or something... ps4 is fucking light, and i have hdmi cables everywhere, would probably take a few seconds to migrate it up (wish it was that easy moving the pc :()

And its not like other people can use the ps4 while you are streaming stuff.

It's basically a must-own from a PS4 owner perspective.

Not really. Only if you game on more than one TV in the house. As both a Vita owner and a future PS4 owner there isn't a single appealing thing about this to me. I've got my PS3 and PS4 for gaming on my tv. I've got my Vita for gaming on my handheld and my Vita can also play PS4 games with remote play for good measure.

I just don't understand the logic I would be fine with moving my system somewhere else in the house. At the same time I have the only HDTV in the house and it's a dedicated gaming machine.

Can I not get something without being "dismissive".

I notice VIta TV running a full-fledged PS store instead of PS Vita store.
Maybe Vita OS on Vita TV is different abit?

LoL I never knew they had a 4k store on there. I have to assume that is "download" only and not streaming...well, without a huge buffer time.

Okay GAF, tell me if I get it right:

I have PS4 in my gaming room.

I have VTV hooked onr TV in my bedroom. I have other VTV hooked on the living room TV.

I want to play some PS4 or PS+ Vita Goodie game via Remote Play in my living room or from the bed, so I just take the controller there and play it - and everything acts like I am playing on my PS4?

What's hard to understand about convenience?

Convenience, you only need to press a few buttons and you are set, it'll actually work nicely in my place because my room's TV isn't that nice compared to my living room one so during weekends or when nobody's home I could go and play on the living room TV without having to unplug my PS4 and stuff, plus some people tend to have a lot of connections behind their TVs so they won't have to worry about that anymore.

What's hard to understand about convenience?
Read his post history, he's not gonna agree with you even if you give him the brightest answer.

Right now, I think I'm more excited about this than any other console.

I mean shit, this thing will be a brilliant Netflix device. I can take it to my parents and boot up a film with ease. And then play some Persona to boot.

That's why. I think I may buy an extra one for my in-laws, so they can watch Netflix, and so people can game while over at family events.

It occurred to me that just as devs on Ps4 have to include vita controls for remote play, devs will probably have to provide alternative control scheme for the VitaTv going forward.

Beings as the Ds4 has 2 clickable sticks and a couple of extra analogue triggers as well as the touchpad, surely some workable control scheme is possible in future.

Hopefully some of the more popular Vita games can have VitaTv compatibility patched in, if they're not compatible at the moment.

I have a house with a girlfriend, kid and two TV's. My consoles are set up downstairs in a closed setup with the cables routed through the skirting board. The video runs through my Sony AV system to my now wallmounted HDTV. Cables run through the wall.

I can't just pick up the PS3 and move it upstairs. Even if I did, where the hell would I put it? The TV in the bedroom is on the wall! The Vita TV can be placed on top of it, and be powered via USB.

Simple. Obviously your situation might be different, but a lot of households are like mine and would love the streaming feature.

That seems to be correct

Some have been doing that already, unknowingly, with PS3/Vita cross play.

But it seems inconvenient given inevitable network lag and video compression.

Then it's just not for you. Nothing wrong with that at all. I'd hope you can still understand that what's important to you may not matter as much to others. It doesn't have to be the device for everyone. It still fills a niche.

Still doesn't seem like enough.
Sure there'll be something else added probably as a acessory for the screen heavy touch games.

Well, they still have L2 and R2 available.

Really, it's going to need a lot of patches, but Sony ought to do that as it's so early in the consoles life-cycle. Otherwise, games like Tearaway seem impossible to get working without the dual touch interfaces.

This is a bigger problem than the 2DS, as 3DS games have to support 2D. PS Vita games generally went crazy with touch controls, and some games (like Tearaway) have some pretty innovative uses.

It really is a bit of a cluster-fuck of an idea. For instance, LittleBigPlanet Vita simply wouldn't be playable. Uncharted: Golden Abyss simply wouldn't be playable. Games like Killzone: Mercenary would be playable with some controller remapping. Games like Tearaway would be impossible on the PSVita TV.

This is a defensive move. Basically Sony want to get a box out there before Apple and Google announce their inevitable setup top+ game play box.

If Sony really want to get this right, they need to get media playback working. Netflix, Hulu, iTunes and Play Music store streaming etc etc, plus most importantly local network movie payback thru NAS. If Sony can do that, and I mean good local network playback with proper mkv and subtitle support, then Apple and Google will have very little space to offer a better user experience.

The video clearly shows one group using the VTV to watch a movie in one room and another group in another room playing PS4.

That's one device servicing two different groups of people simultaneously. It's pretty darn cool, IMO.

So, basically, this is a Vita with no screen and no controls, but with DS3/4 support and HDMI out.

Why not then just have a full Vita revision with screen, controls, HDMI out, DS3/4 support and all streaming capabilities for $169?

top of my head
- kids are using the TV downstairs
- I was playing a game and want to carry on upstairs
- watching a movie on netflix on the PS4 downstairs and I want to finish watching in bed

Because it would be too fucking expensive, and would never be that price.

This is low entry, low risk, and it will sell. It's a companion piece to the PS4 console gamer. Want a handheld? Buy the vita handheld.

Because then it wouldn't be a set-top box. They specifically wanted this form factor.
