PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

The best situation was PSP Go. It was both of these things in one.

Unfortunately, market reaction and Sony's handling of the launch did not make for an easy sell. PSP Go was the best thing Sony's failed at and I wish VIta was more like it.

No, PSP Go was always a terrible idea and poorly executed. Heck, it cost more than a PSP which instantly killed it.

Yeah, the PSP and Vita's resolutions are uh, how do you say... Are in ratios that work perfectly to upscale to 1080p/720p.

Why it doesn't support 1080p is beyond me, but the more I think about, the more I'm willing to bet the general public won't really care about 720p video.

Vita is exactly 2x the resolution of the PSP ya.

Day 1.

I've bene waiting for a way to play vita games on my TV(for group gaming) and now I have it. Just need that release date.

Guys If I understand it correct you CAN't play Vita games on it. Just psp and psOne. Right?
Vita games go in here:

I'm personally in Day 1, and I already own a Vita. This sounds like a really useful thing to own even if you don't give a shit about the Vita and just want to use your PS4 to its maximum capabilities.

Because Vita TV trueHD will come 1 year after, and Vita TV 4K at 2015

And if this supports cloud saves, what a sweet proposition it would be to be able to continue a game on a TV from a handheld.

Considering my Vita already does, your wish is likely granted. Should be awesome!

Well the guy you were responding to was talking about why someone might still want a Vita with a Vita TV existing. He wasn't dismissing the notion that people don't want a portable device.

I know. I was just responding that not everyone cares about portability so there's a market for both.

People who game a ton and like gaming on the go, on a portable while others are using the TVs in the house etc. can do so on the Vita. People like me who don't like portable gaming can have this as an option.

I'll have to wait and see how many games I want are playable on it once it comes to the US and make the call that way. The media streaming is moot for me as we already have so many gadgets in the house that can do Netflix, Amazon etc., so it will come down the gaming and PS4 streaming for me (after I get a PS4 next year anyway).

Uncharted is unlikely to work even with mapped controls because it also uses the camera.

Yeah, POORLY. Not as bad as AC: Liberation, which was straight-up broken (as in half the time I couldn't actually get it to work and had to cheese it by randomly pointing it at light and dark things until it finally decided to work). Honestly, if I were Sony, I'd get Bend to patch that stuff out or make it optional.

They need to advertise the hell out of this. Have in the box in red bold, "Does NOT require PS Vita Handheld to play."

This is blowing my mind the more I think about it.

IMO, the main reason why the Vita isn't selling is because it's a handheld, and people outside of Japan much rather prefer home consoles. So instead of weak moves like Vita with TV out, or simple price cuts, Sony is attacking the heart of the issue. They're making a home console based off the Vita platform and selling it for pennies. The idea is brilliant. Now let's see if they execute.

I think it has a ton of uses but this might get confusing to the PS4 buyer in the store who's about to drop $399, maybe why Sony decided to hold it back a few months in the West.

Make no mistake, this thing does not market to the casual as much as us here talking about it. When they start marketing you can bet they will make all the functions clear. I would rather have it sooner than later but if it launches before mid 2014 then I would be just fine with that here in the US. I certainly am not confused about what this thing is meant for and I do not think your average consumer even knows what this thing is as it was just announced less than 12 hours ago.

Um I just said Sony did not handle it right. But it did what Sony is doing with the Vita much better because you had one single device which could act as a portable console OR a mini home console for your tv.

Keep in mind that it does accept physical Vita retail cards.

Granted, you will need a memory card for ps1 and psp games.

Wow that's actually awesome then

I might actually start a collection of physical vita games

Keep this thing and the games around and I can play them forever :D

If Sony sells it right they may have just announced the most affordable mainstream game console to date

I mean the ramifications could be huge

But so much depends on how they sell it

Yeah, I think tech-versed people will have no problem with this but when they are launching their flagship console I think they want things to be simple to the average dude.

Launching this at the same time creates too much noise, I mean, did they ever get the remote play idea across effectively in the past?

What's to understand exactly? A $100 PS4 extender that also plays a lot of Vita games and runs Netflix, Twitter, Facebook, etc on your TV?

The name PSVITA TV just sounds like an accessory for the Vita to put on the TV, people won't know it's a separate console, and more importantly won't know about the 'PS4 to go' functionality. Hey i love the product but i can't see Sony put too much money marketing this thing. Also they should have just named it PSTV or PSVIT4 lol

So, whats the memory situation with this? Is it using the same Vita memory cards? Is it known yet if I can popped the memory card from my vita into the VitaTV and back again without any issues?

If this allows remote play via ps4 I am sooo in

Didn't they specifically say it allows remote play for PS4?

That's the main appeal for me. PS4 in the living room on the Kuro, VitaTV in the bedroom on my 40" sammy LCD, and a damn good chance I'll get a second VitaTV to put in the basement on my Sony WEGA HD for old school PS1 and PSP titles that will benefit from the CRT.

What do you think, will this be good or bad for Crossbuy?

Nothing but good. I can now play something like Minecraft on the PS4/PS3/PSV/PSVTV and liekly have cross save functions. A better example might be Rogue Legacy though. That is sure to even have cross play between your Vita and PS4.

I just had this though so bare with me

Imagine if you can do cross play with Vita and PS4 games ala Guacamelee but your PS4 is in your bedroom and the PSVTV is in your living room. That's another potentially possible possibility. It's possimpible!

Price would become the issue there, you add in all that tech and suddenly it costs $200.
