PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

This is great for me,I usually use my 3ds on my house
I don't get to play much when I'm on college as I get distracted a lot.
Plus I have all this Ps+ games on my psn account that I'm dying to play.

Sucks about no touch pad though.

If Sony/Gaikai can get this streaming stuff figured out they might really be onto something special with the whole Playstation Ecosystem™ bullshit.

how did they keep this a secret if they had already spoken with that many 3rd party developers/publishers (judging by the list of compatible games)? this totally came out of nowhere.

Looking over the compatibilty list, only notable exception I see is Gravity Rush, which is odd considering its first party.
I assume a patch would put the extra triggers to use. Maybe incorporating the right stick and holding a trigger to mirror touch controls, kinda similar to dragons crown.

Hmm, I'm wondering if this works with just the DS3 or if it can also support PS3 HID input devices via the USB port. I'm guessing that the answer might be no, but for me I have a couple of HID arcade sticks that I've loved using recently. So if it did support them a Vita TV + arcade sticks + Japanese PSN account could get me a really cool small little system for lots of PSOne classics back compatibility fun.

The possibilities of this move really are endless, especially with the IPTV rumors circulating.

Sign up for Playstation TV service, get a Vita TV or PS4 (or both) subsidized with 2 year contract. Free Vita TV or significantly reduced price PS4? Yes please if the service is good and priced fairly.

Why get a Bravia TV? Well it includes a Vita TV along with 1 month/3 months/1 year free Playstation TV service. Watch all your favorite channels, play a huge catalog of games, or even stream Gaikai for newer games without any additional equipment.

Sony is going hard to become THE home entertainment service. I never thought I'd see Sony act so coherently and intelligently before (especially after this gens mishaps). It's exciting to see.

This looks interesting for me. I have owned a PSP in the past, but i have never had the time to play with it, so i ended up gifting it to my sister. Now, it doesn't mean i am not interested in games released for both PSP and Vita, it's just that i'm more of a console gamer, so giving me a way to play those portable titles on my TV is a proposition that actually interests me. Also, due to being a PS Plus member, i have amassed a quite amount of free portable games for which i don't have the means to play them.

The only pending questions for me would be how would my games be stored on that Vita device, since having only the propietary memory cards to use is still an inconvenience. And also, i would have liked to see that type of device actually offering comprability with both PS2 and PS3 titles for the PS4.

It clearly isnt bullshit since its already coming to fruition, sooner than expected even. Kaz has done an amazing job repairing the Sony brand in such a short time.

Sony didnt purchase Gaikai for $250 Million to use it as a talking point. This is for real. And VitaTV is the kind of forward-thinking, visionary approach to creating a great content ecosystem that the other platform holders can be jealous of.

I was on the verge of picking an Xbox One over a PS4. This announcement and the potential VR Headset have sealed the deal. Sony has my loyalty, and more importantly, my $.

Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!

Imagine if they didn't call this a PS VitaTV.

Since it plays PSOne games, it could be PSOne Mini.

I still want one even though I have no use for it. It's just so cool looking...

So what's up with it playing PS1 games? Does it just mean PS1 games that you buy on the store? Because yeah, if you're streaming from the Vita to the Vita TV to the TV, I'd imagine it would play whatever is being shown on the Vita screen? Seems kind of an obvious thing, or is there more to it?

This may be a bit of a silly question, but since it is meant to be a set top box, does that mean it would only be externally powered? No battery? Do we know?

How did we ever manage with SNES etc? And tbh watching game reviews on TV, the vita footage looks pretty good

I didn't have a 50" 1080p screen back in the snes days :P

But resolution is just a condensed point: It's also asset quality, performance, etc... Why would I want to hook a portable device on my Tv when I can hook a console and get so much more? I know, it costs less, but being always tethered to the TV kills the advantages a mobile hardware brings, and doesn't solve the drawbacks (minus the battery life).

Perhaps I'm being narrow minded, but i see this bombing so hard XD

Sony's answer to Ouya and Apple TV. I'll pick this one up later down the road.

And I'm assuming you'll be able to stream PS2/PS3 games via Gaikai as well. Sony's been hitting all the right notes lately. Good for them!

This...isn't really the same as that...

Yep, Its Sony.Thats the main difference ;) I mean, isnt a game console a game console? at least thats what lots of people said.
Being serious, i think Vita TV is ok, but why someone would like to have two mobile devices? I mean, i have an smartphone (which is by far more powerful than this device and has much more available services).

Wow this is pretty need?

Anyone know of the multimedia features?

Like Netflix 1080p?
Amazon Prime 1080p?

ETC?

If it has those things, I'll be picking this up for my parents other TVs. My mother actually plays PSP games, so this would be perfect.

Apparently it's 1080i 720p 480p.

YES stream PS4 from another room? I can now leave my PS4 on my tv and connect this to my pc monitor. This is hot damn glorious.

Can you stream from the PS4 anywhere as long as you have a TV? I'd imagine it would work just like Vita PS4 remote play. I can picture taking it over to a friends house who doesn't have a PS4 and showing him some games.

The reason people got irritated at the TV TV TV stuff is because it was literally the first thing that they trotted out when they revealed the Xbox One. It felt a lot like that was the main thing they were focusing on.

This literally has nothing to do with that. It'll have the streaming apps and such, but the main hook is a low cost device that can play some older games, some Vita games, stream apps, and do PS4 Remote Play.

You're comparing two situations that aren't the same.

And I'm pretty sure the Vita's hardware is still top flight compared to smartphones, at least to the best of my knowledge. TOP MEN would be able to explain better than I.

Just to get one thing straight, here... I won't need a Vita for this to work, correct?

It literally IS a vita.

It's a vita with no screen or controls in a sleek case with an HDMI port. That's literally all it is.

It's like how the Super Game Boy was literally a Game Boy in a SNES cart (obviously it used the SNES for video out, but you get the idea.)
