Does anyone on gaf play on Shiva (EU)? Would be nice to party with people.

i do, but i'm already 50 :(
Feel free to ask crafts, though! I'm a weaver\goldsmith\blacksmith.

That sounds so absurd to me. I could understand asking people nicely to skip cutscenes toward end game (though I personally would want to always watch cutscenes the first time), when I suppose dungeons would take really long and if everything isn't going as it should, a cutscene might take away some precious time, but at that point in the game?
I feel like this type of mentality is ruining it for new players too. I had a new guy in Copper Mines declaring that he'd skip all the cutscenes if we had a problem with him watching them (I told him he could watch them np).
I do place some blame on SE though. Should have stopped the timer when people are watching cutscenes. I can imagine they don't stop it to avoid people exploiting that, but that decision has its own negative repercussions.

Can we please get a thread on the official forums to get dev attention?

aoe stuff is dumb. server latency or what not, but when you try to shield bash someone casting. it still goes through if you are too late, which is like 2/3 bar full >.>

not even worth risking it most of the time.

Be one with your shield, anticipate it :)

What's worse is as an DPS is waiting a long time for DF to find you a party only to realize the tank doesn't know how to tank or cannot keep aggro and the group drops.

That's why Brayflox is my favorite instance; it's basically the separation point to where people who know how to play their class shine, and those who don't get exposed.

Ran with some FCmates who are just getting through the story now, had people telling them to skip cutscenes in Castrum Meridium. Who the fuck runs Meridium in full to get tomes? Christ.

Just told my FCmates to ignore them while they fume. I can't imagine running a full Meridium run for a paltry sum of 100 tomes each time, seems baffling.

Allow me to un-baffle you ;) The prevailing wisdom is that new 50's arent geared to run AK, Demon Wall is a dps/gear check that apparently requires you to gear up through Wanderers/Ifrit/Darklight first. So with AK out of the question there arent a lot of options left to earn Tomes quickly. Castrum has a number of "shortcuts", mostly cheesing the use of the cannons by pulling every mob you can into them, which means it takes 25-30 minutes for a full run. Which isnt much longer than an AK speed-run and offers you more Tomes of Philosophy so you can gear up for AK (or continue to desperately hope Ifrit drops your weapon).

I've farmed it a few times but I never asked anyone to skip cutscenes and sided with anyone who was asked. But its not exactly a mystery as to why people are farming it.

That's great and all, but just cause you don't like it doesn't mean it should change. I don't like sports games, should me and everyone else who doesn't like them petition that they should change?

And this is the reason people can't be critical of specific design choices in sports games? The atmosphere surrounding the game's endgame content is off-putting for various reasons.

Had this conversation before, but try telling that to dps classes who have to wait around for hours for a group.

Did it in FFXI and WoW before either one of them had 'dungeon finder/duty finder' and the thought of going back to a system like that makes me cringe.

I feel like they could have handled it better.

Probably the most essential (but hardest to change) is that, while there is nothing wrong with the "trinity" design, a lack of flexibility in party (and class) roles will always hurt DDs the most (who are also bound to be the most numerous in terms of classes). Maybe the answer to that could have been found in classes vs. jobs or maybe cooperative mechanics, but the game follows the trend of making DDs a more common and less respected party spot (although necessary), so this is bound to be an issue. One duty finder doesn't fix in the first place, really. I mean, assuming there are no great differences between servers, doesn't just increase competition as much as it increases opportunity? If anything duty finder seems to fix the issue of low population of "low level characters" (I don't see people going back to story-required dungeons for their other classes when there are better means to level up).

Other than that, they could make it prefer one's own server or integrate it better with search or improve search so it is just as good. Search is painfully useless right now. Being able to automatically "flag" for dozens and dozens of different activities, including FATEs, quests, crafting, etc. for players to instantly search would actually have more utility and control than duty finder as is. I've wanted this since FFXI.

EDIT: I wonder if people are going to use duty finder to get into more difficult content even if it is unadvised. Kind of seems like giving people rope to hang themselves, i.e. giving themselves a frustrating experience they wouldn't have had normally. I don't know at what point you are not suppose to use duty finder anymore though. People seem to be using it for everything save Bahamut - which very few people are doing.

I will hand it to them, at least on my end, the delay is ALWAYS consistent.
I've gotten so used to it I know when I can still get an ability off or run out of an AOE in time, haha.

Sup gaf. I used to play a LOT of FFXI back in High School (DRK/WAR) so I went to Gamestop and picked up a physical copy of XIV. Im currently rolling a Gladiator on Sargatanas, loving the game so far.
Who should I contact on Sargatanas to join an FC or LS?

I've never missed an AoE stunnable if it hit 2/3rds of the way through the cast.
What I HAVE done is cast Spirits Within when it was almost done and the animation wind up takes long enough for him to cast. THAT exists... I've however caught things with a shield bash right before it casts and had no issues though. Shield Bash is pretty much instant, Spirits Within is most certainly not due to the long animation.

It's in the OP but here's anyway:

kiryogi (Eithne Rain), Ravidrath (Ravidrath Astolph), Omlet (Mishaela Aveeli), and a non-Gaffer (Mac Aroni)

Coliseum Shawl is the ugliest junk ever. Should just be a bikini instead of this weird half-cape/pauldrons look. It looks even weirder with the SCH/SMN AFs.

This should be town gear. Making it optimal gear makes my head spin. Hopefully it is just a holdover from 1.0 (though I don't remember it being good there) and FFXIV isn't turning into something grotesque. Skirts for girls on tanking sets and stuff is already bugging me.

Demon Wall can most certainly be done in regular old AF & GC weapons. It isn't a DPS check as much as it is people scrambling about when things get tight. Most people having issues simply haven't run it enough to get the feel for it, AK isn't some crazy dungeon yet a lot of the community seem to have this weird perception of it.

This! had to skip 2 important cutscenes on the final quest because we were running out of time. and that was without dying or anything, think we finished with under 5 minutes.

Hmm, odd, because I did a party that didn't get wipes and we cleared with ~30 mins to go after watching cutscenes (some slow readers too heh). Was a party made up of a FC and LS friends, with a few of them being experienced. I thought it was safe to say that in a party that doesn't wipe you will be good to go on cutscenes.

So the thing that people don't seem to understand about this fight is how the "knockback" works.

It's not "knockback" - it's that the ground crumbles and the battle platform literally gets a little smaller each time he does that move. They're not getting knocked off, they're falling because there is no longer ground beneath their feet.

You want to stand inside the impact zone, as far from Titan as possible to reduce the damage - if you stand outside of it, the ground under them will crumble and they'll fall to their deaths.

Sorry but this is not true. When I got knocked off it was because of an aoe spell going straight out from Titan that I didn't move out of quick enough. It literally knocked me back off the edge. I was never outside the circle as it crumbled.

That sounds about right. First time I ran it through we still had some 30-20m left so we just sort of took our sweet time. Suppose some wipes could cause people to be short though. Do wish they changed that from 1.0, but SE insists on making the timer go no matter what.

Just relaying my experiences - people thought they should stand outside the circle, and were dying because of that.

Once I figured that out I never had any problems with falling off.

Yeah, the first time through we actually wiped on one particular boss twice before we beat it and we still finished up with ~25 mins left on the clock. Not sure what it could be unless the dps were under-spec'd or weren't focus-firing.

Pretty sure it was confusing for a lot of people the first time they did Titan and he jumped. You're supposed to stay out of the circle for so many levels then suddenly you're not, I can understand the confusion.

maybe we were just slow, I watched every cutscene up until the 2 before you leave the place.
I think we were around 20-24 minutes at the elevator part.

I never fell off, but only because I knew you could easily fall off if you were too close to the edge. Stay close to the yellow circle but not in it worked out well for me. Our tank one dps fell out almost every round the first few times though.

Omg you exposed them, then what?

Am I doing something wrong or is the marketboard completely dead? If I search for any equipment, 1-50, there are only a couple of deozen things listed and they all look pretty crap.

edit: are good items souldbound?

So has anyone figured out how chat works? I sat in lower Limsa noscea.(major city) for a good while messing around with weaving and nobody was chatting. It was completely silent. On ps3 if that matters.

Also if I can get an invite to the gaf linkshell on ultros that would be sweet. Pelagius themad

LS Chat > Talk to everyone in your Linkshell no matter where they are
FC Chat > Talk to everyone in your Free Company no matter where they are
Party Chat > Same as above but only for your Party
Say > Everyone in a range of about 1 malm I think it was originally... not sure now.
Shout > Everyone in the zone
/echo > Crazy voice in your head that only talks to you
/tell > Message anyone anywhere so long as they aren't in an instance
/emote > Same range as say but custom emote

Because getting into AK takes 20+ minutes now...

I just started Botanist and I'm currently at level 9. Leveling is just getting stuff from trees and leves or is there something else I should be doing?

You get stuff from bushes as well at about level 10. That's the extent of it.

Edit: Save mats for other jobs or sell some/all of it for money. Some lower level stuff isn't worth much. You'll start getting more expensive mats in later levels, which is pretty much the same as for miner. You can always make easy money farming shards/crystals.

Yeah, but at least these types of features are trying to help with the problem. And I agree, it sort of takes away from the aspect of helping to build a much tighter community, but I think it's a necessary evil.

I like what DF is. I like that I can craft or do story missions while I wait for a party. What I don't like is the fact that I don't care about anyone in my party and don't even bother talking half the time.

In FFXI, when I had to handle creating the party myself, or get personally invited if I had my flag up... it just felt like a much closer world. Sure, I still didn't care about my party members if they were randoms, but it was fun (for me at least) to get the invite, journey out into the wilderness, wait for everyone else to show up... I don't know, it was just more fun.

I still enjoy FFXIV, but I liked FFXI much more because of things like this.

I'd suggest doing leves once you hit 20. The grinding becomes slow, and for the most part the stuff you grind doesn't sell good at all.

Yes, you could say things get lost in the process of making a game very streamlined and convenient, especially if you are not careful. I hear FFXI isn't like this at all now though.

I've seen several well geared people in the FC and in shout maintain that its Ifrit weapons or no go, now perhaps thats just "insurance" or as you say just a mistaken perception of the dungeon. But the reality of the dungeons gear requirements, wherever it lies, doesnt change the explanation of why people are running Castrum - because they think they cant run AK and because when run "well" its more or less as quick and gives more Tomes (admittedly "inferior" tomes)

Ugh. I hate the idea of a cross-realm 'duty finder'. I wish every game would stop sacrificing the community for convenience.
The presence of the DF doesn't stops you from building a network of friends and FC members to form parties with, which you would have to do without the DF. The DF is an additional option. (It would be nice to have a my own server only checkbox, but having te option as is is still better than not)

Is there metallic dyes? Because the dye system seems pretty dumb with how it removed the texture effect off an item. Metal when dyed loses it's shiny effect and looks like leather and matte.

You're holding your item left-handed! (something that Yoshi-P said wouldn't be possible) What is that thing? A weapon?
It's one of the Sparklers from the Summer event going on in-game.

They cost...I think, 3 Wet Ash for 10 of them. I stocked up on 99 of each [Ul'dah, Gridania, Limsa Lominsa] and stored them on one of my Retainers.
