Do you need to start a quest first? How often is the fate? Where's the turn in in the towns?

It spawns fairly often (I'm gonna say every 5 minutes or so). I was FATE farming with a group around the area and it appeared a lot.

You can turn in the ash near the Leatherworker's Guild in Old Gridania. Just west of that area.

It is my experience that the people pugging in the final set of instances in this game are the worst fucking people playing the game. Not talking about being bad players, just terrible people. Healers who never get out of cleric stance and start pulling the full instance when people aren't moving fast enough/other healer doesn't heal them so they can get someone else to leave first so they don't have to wait the 15 minutes to requeue. Tanks trying to charge gil to not suck. DPS starting bossfights when others are watching cut scenes. Everyone only out for number 1. All while using the normal ethug typing style. Hope you like being called a noob, and have it pointed out that they have their relic weapon so they must know what they are doing.

Just saying, this is something you are going to have to get use to.

The thing that fucking baffles me is if you want to speed run and grind shit out efficiently then GET A FUCKING STATIC ON YOUR SERVER. Stop using the mother fucking duty finder for PUG action and then losing your shit and throwing a tantrum because the other people doesn't have such a massive epeen as you. Shout on your server, do it with your FC, get a group together that you know are as hardcore as you so you guys can wank out the dungeons and fights super fast and get the phat loots you so desperately need.
Can't get a static together? Aren't social enough to speak with other people in a non douchy way? Then quit whining, suck it up and help the guys who don't know the run/fight as good as you so then in the future things go smoother for you and the people they will end up with. Don't be a cunt to them and force them to quit/you quit because then they won't learn anything (except you're a massive socially inept cunt).

I have no problem with grinding the last things for the cool shit and getting phat loot. I want to do that. But before I get to the stage where I can do that I'm going to either need to learn in a PUG with DF or with the FC/server group and until then I will do some runs using the DF where I don't expect everyone to be super up on the pro strats where we will learn together, or if I know the strats will help out others so they can, in turn, help others in the future.

If the endgame douches cunt around not helping the Duty finder people they get paired with (which, is their fault for using the DF and not a static or FC party) then endgame is going to suuuuuuuuck until they scare off all the newer people so only the uptight dicks are left in end game DF.

I don't know if I'm going to be able to deal with people rushing.

We (another NeoGAF member and myself have been duo-ing since Beta) did the
____Ifrit______
fight. It has a decent sized cutscene at the beginning. I am a slow reader and even though I have seen this cutscene before, I wanted to see it again on my new character. When I got out of the cutscene I see the other 2 people were making rude comments in party chat while I was watching.

It really bothered me. I wanted to drop out of the group and try another but didn't say anything since I was the last one and the fight started immediately as I came out of the cutscene. That was sometime last night and I am still thinking about it now.

This game sounds pretty interesting, but damn if it isn't intimidating. I'm just lost reading all of this.

The game is designed as a Final Fantasy fan's first MMO. It does a pretty damn decent job, through text tutorials/help and by slowly adding mechanics and such to dungeons and boss fights, that make it easy for the average JRPG player to get used to some of the more specific ideas and mechanics that make MMOs play the way they do. The real challenging content that you'd need to run with a guild with doesn't come until after 50 and after the main story content, by then you should be well versed in MMO logic and gameplay. Aside from the content that requires a party and the fact that there are thousands of other players breathing the game world to life, it plays out remarkably similar to FFXII, which in turn was clearly inspired by FFXI.

I wouldn't be afraid to check it out if you are a FF fan and have ever had an interest in playing an MMO. And (when there's room) there will be plenty of people, myself included, on the GAF guild who would help show you the ropes.

I don't know if I'm going to be able to deal with people rushing.

I wouldn't let it get to you. These people exist and they will do shit like this...but they can eat a dick and deal with players experiencing content for the first time. The game is not even a month old for FFS, they can learn to be patient. If it starts to get abusive, then report them to a GM.

I can't get it through my head why people would even complain about cutscenes when they have actively chosen to play a game called FINAL FANTASY XIV.

That's because people are talking about latter game stuff. You don't really have to concern yourself with it while playing the first few dozen hours.

So...is the Lord of Craigs as hard as it seems? My fucking healer keeps getting himself knocked off. Without fail. Each. Fucking. Fight.

So the thing that people don't seem to understand about this fight is how the "knockback" works.

It's not "knockback" - it's that the ground crumbles and the battle platform literally gets a little smaller each time he does that move. They're not getting knocked off, they're falling because there is no longer ground beneath their feet.

You want to stand inside the impact zone, as far from Titan as possible to reduce the damage - if you stand outside of it, the ground under them will crumble and they'll fall to their deaths.

Question for THM/BLM. Do you guys use Lightning or Blizzard? Fire seems to be so much more powerful

Thunder is DoT and DoT is nearly always a good thing. Later on, youll even get traits that increase the chance of Thunder being insta-cast and MP free. Its useful.
And Blizzard is damage...which is also good. Cant ignore the Heavy effect that Blizz1 gives either.

I see a lot of BLMs just drain their MP pool on Fire spells, Transpose into Umbral Ice, and then cast Thunder and Ice until Transpose is ready again. By then, MP is back to near max so they can Transpose back to Astral Fire and start blowing shit up again.

it's like the most handholdy mmorpg ever made :P

if you don't understand stuff just ask on gaf! plus it's a lot more fun if you don't anyway and figure things out/experience things yourself, unless some douchelord online players are giving you a hard time, but i guess they certainly will >_<

Ugh. I hate the idea of a cross-realm 'duty finder'. I wish every game would stop sacrificing the community for convenience.

The flipside is increased wait times. Things are long for DDs the way it is. Imagine if they were limited to a single server.

Go start a thread called "Why don't you play MMOs?" and you'll find I'm not the only person in the world who is critical of them.

That's great and all, but just cause you don't like it doesn't mean it should change. I don't like sports games, should me and everyone else who doesn't like them petition that they should change?

Had this conversation before, but try telling that to dps classes who have to wait around for hours for a group.

Did it in FFXI and WoW before either one of them had 'dungeon finder/duty finder' and the thought of going back to a system like that makes me cringe.

I watch every cutscene the first time. I like to know what is going on. If anyone ever tells me otherwise (and there are more than 20-30 minutes remaining in the dungeon), I will probably just idle until the timer runs out. That's like cyber-bullying.

Right, and if you don't get in with certain people you're fucked cause you never get invited.

That sounds so absurd to me. I could understand asking people nicely to skip cutscenes toward end game (though I personally would want to always watch cutscenes the first time), when I suppose dungeons would take really long and if everything isn't going as it should, a cutscene might take away some precious time, but at that point in the game?
I feel like this type of mentality is ruining it for new players too. I had a new guy in Copper Mines declaring that he'd skip all the cutscenes if we had a problem with him watching them (I told him he could watch them np).
I do place some blame on SE though. Should have stopped the timer when people are watching cutscenes. I can imagine they don't stop it to avoid people exploiting that, but that decision has its own negative repercussions.

After all the problems of getting started I finally was able to figure everything out and decided on starting a new character.

Been having a TON of fun. Way more then in 1.0, there is some kind of great energy in the air and people are loving the game (except for the dam gil sellers) everything has really come together.

I am on Sargantas (spellled?) and my character name is Celes Geraldine.

Hollar at me if you are playing on the server and are new or starting over. I played 1.0 for a while and am pretty familiar with many things so I could* help newer players out.

*I am starting a new job/class I've never played before so I'm still learning too, but general questions I think I can help with.

anway, really happy I got the game and gave it a second chance.

This needs to happen soon. Timer needs to stop if anyone is in a CS because I can see it being a legitimate problem in some dungeons, but I would never ever ask someone to skip a CS they haven't seen. Maybe that will be enough to help uptight rushers deal

Why the fuck you need lvl 70 gear for a dungeon that drops lvl 60 gear?

For the same reason some WoW servers kept upping the ilvl requirement to pug Mogushan Palace or whatever it was called to the point where they wanted a higher ilvl than the place dropped once it was older content. MMO = path of least resistance for a lot of the community.

7'+ tall, tempted by battle, mining and hard days of armorsmothing and mining...and I still look damn good in a Bikini.

Roegadyn females and Duskwight females are like, the most rare things to see on our server. Any server? Probably.

Putting cutscenes like that into dungeons that people will run multiple times is dumb. We had the same crap happening in SW:ToR.. after a certain point, everyone would spacebar the inane conversations because they had gone through them a billion times. If you didn't, you would get yelled at.

But I understand that the Final Fantasy name draws in a different crowd, and it's good enough that non-MMO players are going to be coming in and enjoying the experience. And ultimately, it will be good for the game that everyone has to do the dungeons to finish the story. It's just really annoying now for those that have the go-go-go mentality.

I played DPS in vanilla/TBC WoW, I understand that it can be hard to find groups. The difference for me is that I sometimes made a connection with the people I ran the dungeons with back then. Eventually I made some friends doing this and became part of a guild. I still hang out on Mumble with some of the guys I met back then.

So while I see where you're coming from and agree that the duty finder speeds up the process of finding groups, I just can't personally accept that it's a necessary system. (At least not cross-realm)

If the game imposed a minimum then the community would take it upon themselves to up that minimum.

Ive seen more than a few suggest that you must have full Darklight gear to do AK speed runs.

Im a tank and Ive yet to do AK because of the heavy elitism surrounding it.

I did AK in full AF with only the Ifrit weapon.

The biggest joke is one piece of i70 can turn your whole set i70.
Kept wondering why I had AF gear and i70, thought it was a mistake initially, but I had a doublemelded Mailbreaker on and would be naked with i70.

The ilevel means absolutely nothing if it can be skewed so heavily.

Snoo snoo.

Need to get mine her bikini.

Just an FYI, always check out the HQ versions of your gear. I saw a HQ version of my sword and it actually did +4 damage, 1 Vit, 1 Str and 6% more critical hit rate over the regular version..

yup, 4 tries and the groups would either leave or tell me to leave because I was "under geared"
I have the best equipment possible before Darklight(including rings etc) besides Ifrit's sword which isn't much better than my current sword,

They really need to change how positioning works in my opinion. :|

You can be miles out of aoe and it still hits you, because you happened to still be in it by an inch when it calculates your position against the attack. On the other hand, you can be doing a back attack, and your behind it when you use it, however, as the animation happens, the enemy/boss swings round and changes direction ruining your attack. All because it doesn't calculate your position till the animation of the attack finishes.

Even with DF, you have to potentially wait hours.

This is to be expected as a DPS. Where you are one of billions.

Yeah, but at least these types of features are trying to help with the problem. And I agree, it sort of takes away from the aspect of helping to build a much tighter community, but I think it's a necessary evil.

The AoE positioning is a lie! Bombs have killed me outside of their blast radius.

aoe stuff is dumb. server latency or what not, but when you try to shield bash someone casting. it still goes through if you are too late, which is like 2/3 bar full >.>

not even worth risking it most of the time.
