PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

This is so good, and i also like that it will bring an end to the forced touch controls of new Vita Games. I hated that, and obviously everyone would want their Game now to be compatible with Vita TV and at least make them optional.

Multiple Accounts would be the icing on the cake, will not happen though.

Is anyone else worried how PS1 and PSP games are going to look? Going to look like shit on my 60" Aquos lol.

Well, there are some PS3 games that run in the realm of 1024x640, which isn't all that far from Vita's native res, and PS3's up-scaler doesn't make them look too bad.

Maybe Vita TV will feature a decent up-scaler too.

Not at running video games.

Vita has Netflix.

Music Unlimited is Sony's own answer to Spotify and Xbox Music, superior to both thanks to the fact that Sony is actually a major music publisher.

Way more shitty Android/iOS games with shitty controls. VitaTV has high quality Vita, PSP, PS1, and PSN titles with high quality controls. In short, gaming ghetto v. VitaTV.

Well, gaming first, streaming device second, but yes.

Only if you like Nintendo games. The Vita library stands with the 3DS quite admirably across the board otherwise (same number of 75+ games on Metacritic for example, despite Vita games getting hit with a greater "handheld" stigma than 3DS releases).

Didn't realize your phone was always connected to your TV, had a controller, and could remote play PS4 games.

There is a difference between not understanding a product and intentionally being obtuse. You're clearly being the later.
Just ignore him/her. Check his/her post history. Trying wayy too hard in all Sony threads.

Should've just put HDMI out in the Vita in the first place. It's not as if the test units don't already have HDMI out.

I don't understand the point of this. I mean, I get it, but honestly, are there more than 100-200k people that are gonna want this? What if the Vita game requires a touch screen?

Should've just made a PS3 equivalent to this instead. I just don't see this working out for Sony.

Do people honestly expect to be able to play PS4 games beamed from another room on this thing? Maybe if your whole house is built out of plaster, but one concrete wall and this all falls apart.

Not if you keep your network wired.

well at least we know something... that investors are getting all giddy with this device's potential... all the mainstream outlets are also saying this is Sony foray into the Google and Apple Tv

It doesn't. The VitaTV is the only one with an HDMI port. All "normal" Vita's will still function the same as always.

You buy a VitaTV, put MGS3 Gamecard into VitaTV, play game.

You dont need an actual PS Vita Handheld at all.

Vita-2000 doesn't so you will have to buy this thing

Thx for the answers. I guess it's a cheap entry level device, but it woulda been nice if VITA-2000 could be mobile and hook up to a TV. I'll stick with my OG VITA for now, but this is a cool option to have.

Edit:Knowing Sony, this thing will connect to PSN and allow you to download all your digital games from jump. Hooray account system.

not sure if its been answered already but since you can hook a vita up to this would that allow you to play the games requiring the touch features such as gravity rush or uncharted?

That you can put this device in your kids room so they have stream from the PS4 in th living room is cool, and that you can then take it on holiday, or you stay at your aunts house, or you can keep one in your holiday home.

Even ignoring the Vita side of it, Gaikai and PS4 streaming makes this worth the money for me, and I can see it being popular among others too.

I had thought that, but the streaming services are found in the PSN store and you just log into the appropriate region to download those apps. It shouldn't be a problem.

Depends on the service. Joysound Karaoke, for instance, isn't IP blocked on the PS3, but it is hardware blocked.

If the control scheme is too complex (Tearaway) it probably won't be supported. Minor touch stuff might be patched in, but no confirmation.

The vitaTV has a larger games library at launch that the Xbox one will have in its lifetime.

I'm definitely a fan of what Sony is doing with vita here, but...

Hell, those are guaranteed to look like crap, I already tried playing PSP games on my tv and they look like shit.
Problem is that I don't think vita games will look much better. IQ is already poor on the vita itself on games that run at sub-native res and have no AA like Uncharted, blowing these up on a screen with 4 times the res wont do them any favors.

they make sense though giving their increased use of the touch and gyro features.

Might get patched or delayed until DS4 support is added since that has the touchpad :p

Gyro would still work with DS3.

Even after DS4 gets supported, I don't see how they can make Uncharted work since
certain parts in the game require the use of the camera.

I am just having a really hard time thinking this thing is a good idea. Splintering the market for interfaces (some people will have touchscreens, some won't), blowing up HUDs and screen scopes from 4 inch ones to 50 inches as if designing for screen size wasn't a concept, nerfing any social/portable functionality, remote play that just can't possibly work in any reliable kind of way... and isn't this just like re-releasing the PS2 except with only Vita software on it? "A third console to put on your TV, with worse graphics, and fewer games!" If people treat it like a console, why would they ever want games released on it instead of on the PS3 or 4? What is the Vita advantage?

I really just don't get it.

That big, fat gigabit Ethernet port on the back? Wires. The future is in the wires!

Possibly worse, since they go through two separate upscaling passes (first on the Vita, then on the TV)..

Didn't Yoshida already say the Vita's native resolution wouldn't come into play here? It would start at the output res so no scaling to the Vita and then to the TV. It should be the same as playing from a PS3 assuming the scaling methods are the same or at least similar.

Depends on the service. Joysound Karaoke, for instance, isn't IP blocked on the PS3, but it is hardware blocked.

Ah, didn't realize that. So are they detecting model number or serial number range?

But doesn't Japan have access to special services not available in the rest of the world?

Yes they do, but what I'm saying is if you log into the US PlayStation store, you should be able to get Netflix or Hulu for the US versions and that would give you access to those services as long as you're doing it from the US or use a proxy to make it think you're in the US.

Interesting device. The novelty for me is that it's essentially a cartridge based tv console.

Game compatibility will be questionable, and titles will probably look like shit. There isn't even anything I really want to play on the thing. But I certainly will be paying attention to this device.

Good point. Nobody has a problem with playing video games on a TV. Granted there will be other tv features here, but people are getting excited about playing games on their TVs. It's apples and oranges from what Microsoft is doing with their TV push.

I feel like there will still be some notable lag inherent in something like that, but it would certainly be interesting to be proven wrong.

It's times like these that I'm glad to have wired CAT5E to every room in my house.

The Vita TV has a goddamn Ethernet port. Christ.

I've never owned two of the same console in my life (at the same time), but I'm about to own two Vitas.

Touché, Sony.

Yeah it's not like it has an ethernet port. Jesus, some people need to think before they post.

My biggest question is how many of these am I going to buy? And is there going to be a limit on how many you can assign to one account?
As it stands I am putting one in my oldest boy's room, but I might put one in my youngest and mine IF they can all go on my psn account.
