This just reminds me that I need to actually start running Ifrit HM and work on getting Darklight gear for my WHM to progress more into end game stuff. I've kind of gotten into doing my own thing for a bit after a few more dicey groups for the last dungeons of the game.

How much are the other pieces you can pick up with the lower level tomes? I have some already and want to spend them on gear if I can now before diving back in for more.

Edit: I'd also be down for an AK run if needed and would like to run it normally at least once before speed runs begin.
Darklight gear ranges, the jewelry goes for 375 tomes, gloves and belt for about 475, pants are 800ish, chest piece is 1300ish.

A couple of us have been running AK but it gets kinda difficult with the 30minute + queue times. Maybe we can get some runs going tonight.

Titan Hard mode is mean.

Our group got him to 3% last night and wiped. Should be able to take him out today though, now that we completely understand the mechanics of the fight. I don't see the average player doing this until a nerf. It's about Ifrit X difficulty from 1.0

Has anyone ever grouped with the officers of the GAF Ultros guild? They only seem to talk to each other and ignore the rest of the guild.
I have as well. A lot of them got to level 50 quickly so unless you were right there with them you might not have the chance to play with them until know. I know I saw Strawberry Shortcake and Capell doing stuff with FC members yesterday and over the past couple of days.

The group I've been doing it with has been having issues getting the heart down when we get bad RNG on people being encased in rocks. We've made it to the last phase a couple times and people usually end up standing in something they shouldn't and end up dying. What kind of gear level is your group rocking if you don't mind me asking?

Has anyone experienced crazy CPU temp spikes? Normally my CPU temp while in game hovers around 60C. But last night right before I quit playing, I heard the fan kick in as I was running around Drybone, so I checked the temp- 85C. my Core Temp overheat protection immediately kicked in and shut down my PC. Has this happened to anyone else while playing?

I'm full Darklight with Relic+1 but a lot of the members are in a mix of Darklight and gear from Amdapors Keep. Darklight helps immensely with Tumult towards the end. Getting hit 5 times in a row hurts.

Was the fan running at maximum RPM? That sounds a bit odd; I've never gotten over 60C when playing and I have an OC'd Haswell that runs pretty hot. What kind of CPU do you have?

Well I'll be on my WHM tonight around 630 EST adjusting my hotbars and adding a few macros and maybe leveling Botany or Archer to unlock BLM.

High level gathering is useless

Have you ever played XI or XIV v. 1.0 for that matter?

Before you lay all the blame at SE's feet, you should polish up on your history a little bit. Every systems in this game has evolved with player input. In 1.0 gathering and crafting in general were much, much harder than it is now. Gathering was a lot of guess work, you can't really pick what you mine or log, sure you can select notches which give you a higher chance at certain ores or logs or fishes, but they were never a guarantee. As a result, some items are just much rarer than others simply because they don't come up as often. Furthermore, things obtained from quarrying and harvesting (secondary tool) were completely random. You want 10 cotton bolls? It might take you 5 min or 30 min depending on your luck.

Fast forward to now. Harvesting has been simplified and completely obvious. You choose from a list of items you can obtain per node. You don't even have to figure out where these nodes are because you have a log that tells you exactly where to find them. There is no mystery, no discovery, no randomness. And that's exactly what people demanded, they don't want to guess at what they are harvesting. So of course harvesting in general is useless because it is so accessible, anyone can get anything as long as they are of the appropriate level.

If you want someone to blame, look no further than the people around you. They want things easy and they want immediate gratification, that is in general how gamers have became, entitled. They don't want to have to work for anything

Don't even get me started with crafting. So many materials that used to be only supplied by the gatherers and crafters themselves are available in abundance from the NPC. Again, because people demanded easy (and cheap) access to these items.

AK is going to be really tough if all you have is AF gear. Getting a couple pieces from Wanderers + GC stuff (if you are high enough) combined with Ifrit weapons should help out. Will likely still be a bit rocky until you start getting drops from AK though but its a fun and challenging instance. Especially the second boss.

I have my Ifrit weapon, a Darklight belt, and some decent upper 40-50 jewelry. Seems like it should be good enough for AK but I would still like to get a few things from the Palace first. I could definitely use a new shield.

If you need a WAR for these let me know (Rock Volnutt). I just got my Ifrit Axe last night and I really don't want to speedrun either of these dungeons at least for my first time through them.

I'm PLD so... :(

Has anyone ever grouped with the officers of the GAF Ultros guild? They only seem to talk to each other and ignore the rest of the guild.

I don't use mumble, but they never respond to guild chat or tells, makes me look forward to server transfers

I'm sorry but this is nonsense. What is your character name?

I type in FC chat all the time and always ask in both chat and Mumble when looking for party members. I have been grouping with and helping members since beta until now, and many of them never set foot in Mumble. I'm not only doing end game content either. I have helped many people through story dungeons and trials that I have already cleared. Aside from this being completely false, is there any particular reason why you decided to try and single out the Free Company officers directly here in the thread?

Haven't been able to play much because of school and other stuff, but the more I hear about the community the more I don't want to play. As someone who plays rather casually I don't want to get into a story dungeon and be beraded by some hot shot trying to show how hardcore he is. What I would love to do is have a relatively static group to go through the game with and experience the story. I am on Ultros and don't know anyone, and I take it the gaf FC (or linkshell or whatever) is still full, because I'd much rather play with gaffers than some of the degenerates I've seen shouting and screen grabs of their garbage around here.

There's a 15 minute FATE in Western La Noscea where you have to turn in crates, but if you wait until the last minute...

So much EXP from killing those goblins who spawn infinitely. Great wait to level up a secondary class to 15-20 very quickly.

Yeah, the fans were definitely kicked in max RPM. I have a sandy bridge i7 3820 @ 4.3. I had been playing for 5 hours straight, but I don't think that would be the culprit. No other major processes running besides PrecisionX and FRAPS

Took the Gladiator on Shiva EU to 22, but didn't have the chance to party it up with Recall. I'm done with her for a little while, got to level the Pug on Siren NA with my friends and try to get Lea on Ultros to 50 (and unlock Garuda, and find people in the FC to do it with... damn it why are the chains so long... and I keep getting sidetracked!).

Don't assume it's as prevelant as it seems. Remember, people who don't have bad experiences rarely post about it. I haven't had any of the above issues at all.

What kind of HP are you rocking? Some of the bosses hit kind of hard in AK, but if you are around 4K HP you should be ok with a decent healer.

I think it's a good idea to run Wanderer's a couple times just to see if you can get lucky with some drops. They really help you ease into AK and once you start speed running you will replace every single piece of your old gear with something from AK or a Darklight piece.

You could try running some heavy synthetic benchmarks and see where you spike too. I rarely find that a game can push temperatures near a synthetic bench. If you get insane temps running the synthetic perhaps it could be a hardware-related.

Cliques in guilds are very common in MMOs, get used to it.

Pretty much. With 512+ people in the guild, you're all pretty much strangers but at least the guild chat provides good convo. Mumble definitely causes segregation though and I don't actually know how welcoming the mumble channel is.

So should I just stop mining and leveling armor smithing?

Just do whatever you want. You'll kick yourself later when they make changes or add new stuff and suddenly there is a demand. Happens in all mmos, a craft seems worthless or economy prices drop then they add something new and it's a rush of money making for those who are ready for it.

Ya, that's the trouble with guilds this size. Won't be surprised if the guild starts to splinter off into smaller guilds once people fall into place with others.

Because exp buff lol

You're going to get demoted. :,( (Besides, it's all about the tp buff lbr)

I don't actually know how welcoming the mumble channel is.

Everyone in mumble is actually very welcoming and friendly. I was extremely shy about getting on and talking at first, but after getting to know everyone, it's really easy now. I totally understand if people can't use it, but if you can, it's totally worth a try.

I've played with them twice now, only from requests for DPS in the FC chat log. Its not some kind of conspiracy, there are 512 members, all on at different times.

Pretty welcoming thus far, though some people will split off occasionally if they are running a specific dungeon or FATEs. it is a bit easier to communicate with people on there than in chat during some events, but it can get hectic too if a ton of people are all trying to talk at once.

I will say the guild is huge and it can put a strain on anyone wanting to get to know and hang out with everyone. Not impossible, but that's a lot of people to manage even surface relationships with. Some might just pick and choose based on who they hang out with or talk to the most.

This I'm not fond of. The ilevel reqs are a joke if you have certain items. Anyone from 1.0 with what was the relic pre-req weapon like a Mailbreaker automatically gets set to i70 when it is equipped even if they're in full AF.

You can skew that pretty badly with shoddy equipment if one piece heavily outweighs the rest.

This shit became necessary the moment people started doing Garuda HM in level 30 gears.

It's ok, i've only had one person insult me. And, to be fair, my tanking was terrible. I went into Brayflox without equipping my warrior job and couldn't hold hate without Defiance.

I'm responding so obviously I'm not ignoring the issue. You didn't provide your character name and there are no known registrations on our website that has your username listed.

What have you ever done to help anyone? What members have you grouped with? Did you really put any effort into socializing with others besides complaining about it here in the thread?

I'll be happy to see you leave when transfers are enabled or even sooner if you want to provide your character name. We don't need members that are only here to try and cause problems.

If I was able to easily understand spoken English and reliably talk it, plus I had a microphone, I'd be in the mumble chat, but I'm content with the text chat in the FC in game, which is always pretty alive. At times it's so alive that's following it is simply impossible at the rate stuff disappears from the screen.

buy the best rings, etc off the market board if you need some of that to hold you over.
and go for the HQ stuff gives a good bonus.
I got good prices on a ring and a bracelet that bumped me up a good amount of Vit.

Maybe I'm being a bit presumptuous based on a few overly bad examples. I guess I should just see for myself how things pan out.

I'll probably head on there when raids start... Too lazy at the moment

You're Lain the bard on Ultros?

I've been reluctant to do so because of the comments made by other people when asking them not to use certain language.

I'm glad you're responding to a general question and criticism with a threat to kick me.

It's tough but idk man I was in a PUG with 2 other FC members and we made it past the heart to about 30% until we had 2 mistakes that cost us dearly. It is definitely a gear check though. Luckily we had high DPS. Going to run it again tonight. Cannot wait!!

Really hoping my FC is ready to start running this such a bunch of slackers lol If 3 FC members can make it that far in a pug (we were the last ones left alive then a full coordinated group should do fine.

Oi, what is protocol for getting a pearl just for Ultros GAF Linkshell? Or is that full as well?

Some friends and I are starting a Free Company of our own, but it'd be cool to at least have some option for communicating with ya'll in-game.
Unless Linkshell is useless cuzza FC chat.

Yeah, I agree it might have a been a little bit of an aggressive response, but at the same time you have to realize that you have been making anonymous accusations (that don't align with what I have personally experienced in the guild) and said yourself you 'can't wait for server transfers' which is obviously implying you want to leave.

The main thing I took from yesterday is that I don't have the stomach to level a DPS class yet to go with my 50 Warrior. I only got to 15 with Lancer before throwing in the towel for now. It's not that the class is no good, it's just that after playing a bit at endgame, hitting 1-2 over and over for hours and trying to Fracture everything in fates wasn't very appetizing. Neither does the prospect of 30-40 minute queues as a DPS.

Additionally, the idea of pugging in the current environment at 50 is abhorrent to me. The kind of dicks that rule the roost for the first couple of weeks of every content patch in WoW taught me that no, it's not worth it to rush, and yes, it does get better with time.

Links hell is mostly overflow that can get into the FC yet. Ask maple cookie or strawberry shortcake for an invite in game
