Or, more accurately, not what people were expecting. The hate towards Samurott when it was first revealed was scary.
You might want to read through the FAQ section to avoid any other slip ups, there are some rules that might not seem very obvious (like that one) and might get you in trouble, and ignorance isn't a good excuse.
Not wanting to be mean, it's just that it would suck to get banned for not knowing some small rule you didn't know about

Tepig was the best starter since Charmander, and then came that fat fucking load Pignite and Emboar.
Hasn't been three great final evos since Gen 1 in my opinion. Don't like Meganium, Blaziken, Sceptile, Infernape or any of the Gen 5s.

Between Chespin and Froakie for me. Fennekin looks really dumb unless it evolves into something totally badass as a final evo.
Fairy is OP as hell honestly. Immune to dragon while also being SE? Strong against Dark and Fighting while also resisting them? Damn that sounds amazing. Have to see how it shakes out with moves and pokemon though.

I loved Samurott when he was revealed. Not as cool a design as Dewott, but the best fully evolved Gen V starter by a very wide margin.
Technically, Samurott is somewhere between an otter and a sea lion.
I imagine that they'll compensate for the type by giving them middling stats or poor fairy move distribution. Xerneas is going to be a monster though.

The Cyndaquil line is the best starter line period.
I have severe "My first pokemon" bias don't pay heed to a word I say on the matter.
I loved Tepig, didn't mind Oshawott, hated Snivy. Loved Dewott, hated the other two. Found Samurott passable, didn't like Emboar or Serperior.
I like Cyndaquil and Totodile a lot, I like Torchic, I like all of the Gen 4 starters (especially Turtwig), but Tepig was just fucking great. Wish he'd stayed quadruped.

Empoleon is too out there. IDK, it's a weird line. The Steel typing is neat to have for a starter evo, but I dunno if I like the theme of "armoured plate penguin".
Piplup should really gained Ice or Flying typing as it evolved.

To be honest, I have never liked any of the final grass evolutions since Bulbasaur?
Meganium is alright, I guess. Torterra is a bootlegged Venasaur. Sceptile is boring. Serperior too...
Other than that, I like all of the other lines.
Eh, I'm on team Grovyle. Sceptile has a pine tree up its ass.
