My 2 cents on cut-scenes, mainly in Praetorium. Some of you sound like jerks defending your "right" to watch them, regardless of anyone else. Yet, I can understand wanting to watch them, but there are -many- cut-scenes during a Praetorium run, and I think most are -not- worth watching because they add nothing to the Story overall. I mean, if all the cs does is offer congrate on what you just did, or tell you what to do next...skip it (really).

Then again, the last half of Praetorium is really awesome, and I would encourage everyone to watch all the cut-scenes from Livia (white armor chick, felt good to watch her die) onward...you get some nice backstory. I enjoyed all the reactions of my group during this part of Praetorium, was great.

Now, after finishing the Story, I am left with some questions about things I may have missed along the way...spoilers below

First....what happened to Alphinauds sister? I know she decided to go her way, to find some other way to help out, but I don't recall ever hearing from her again.

Who is Minfilia's grandfather? Or was it grandmother that she mentioned?

So Cid is the son of the Garlean Emperor?

Nero wasn't a pure-blood Garlean? He was able to escape...

Same boring dungeon is the bane of all MMOs, it doesn't mean a speedrun should be allowed, just that we should start screaming at S-E let us get gear like this by other means. If you can really achieve this with crafting, for example, then you don't need to run the same dungeon, just craft or a mix of both, get some parts of your gear in dungeon, but others spend money buying from a crafter.

But that messes with other systems, like gil, etc. Anyway, it is clear that S-E has more patching to do, but that doesn't mean that speedrun the dungeon was a good idea.

There is no way anyone watching the cutscene for the first time can know that.

I wish there was more sets of the same ilevel at end game so you had options on what you wanted to run, kind of like GW2 if I remember correctly. You had 5+ dungeons, with each offering different sets of end game viable gear so you were never stuck farming the same dungeon over and over (except funny enough they also had speed running of one of the dungeons at launch which had to be patched out).

There are already quite a few nonlegecy players in full AF+1 with relic+1.

Modern mmo players are locusts. Pure and simple.

Relic +1, yes. "AF +1" no. Many players do have some of the Allagan set which drops from Bahamut's Coil which has the same item level.

There... I fixed the spoiler tag for you...

How is it possible to get full AF+1 when it costs thousands of Myth tomes, which have a 300 per week limit? Not to mention that getting relic+1 costs 300 times as well.

Every maintenance that has happened has rest the cap counter back to 0

So if you were 50 before even Early Access finished and pushed hard, you have had enough resets to get your shit

Now after this "fix" the reset counter doesn't glitch and reset the 300 cap back to 0

That was the thing that made AK speedruns explode, not the get them fast, but get to cap ASAP and hope for a downtime, cause that gave you 300 tomes again to grind for

If the rest never happened, AK speedruns would still happen, but would be hampered down and not be on 30+ minute qeues, cause people couldn't grind the most out of it

If SE's gonna copy WoW's endgame loot point system, they need to understand that the system works, trust it, and realize that they don't have to be dicks anymore ;/

Man it was laggy/glitchy a while before the emergency maintenance.
Was trying to help someone in the GAF FC do normal Titan.
got 2 bad lags when everything gets still and on the heart part it said 'Target is not in range' when in sitting right there in front of him tanking.

How many times did the cap reset? I'm only aware of once last week when they upgraded the server. That means the total you could have at the moment would be 1200 tomes. The chest and legs alone cost ~16xx something.

It takes 10 minutes to down HM Ifrit?

I don't know, I forget. Never timed it, I'm just being conservative.

End story spoilers, obviously.

We don't know; she'll probably re-appear in a future patch.

Minfilia (if I recall correctly) was talking on the linkshell to someone else about their grandfather; I don't think who it is ever comes up, but it could possibly be Alphinaud's sister- at least, the siblings are the only two characters with a famous grandfather I can think of.

Cid is the son of the man who started Project Meteor and ended up blowing up a research laboratory. Darth V- I mean, Gaius became a foster father of sortsto Cid after his real dad became mad due to Dalamud's influence.

I may be remembering incorrectly but I'm pretty sure Nero wasn't 'allowed' to escape- he just did.

75 ifrit runs, 10 minutes a run, is 12.5 hours. Depending on how long the 8 AK runs take we should just slaughter ifrit a bunch of times!
That would be nice and dandy for everyone involved!

Except the poor mother fucker in charge of stunning Eruptions

I would take death by ungabunga over stunning eruptions for 12.5 hours

I think every time the server was taken offline, it was reset, so yeah...

Forgot about the cap, but on Ultros alone, I've seen several with Relic+1s and pieces of AF+1. If people managed to stay on during early access and blitzed their way through, its quite possible to have some pieces.

such a waste of time on their part too
shouldn't they work on REAL problems like fixing the wonky lag or invisible HNM or something?

About speedruns. Having ran AK twice now, I can see why people would want to skip the trash and just hit the bosses. I do not blame them AT ALL considering you have to run that place 50-60 times to get a Darklight set. Incredibly POOR design, imo.

Trash offers NOTHING of value to a group, it only costs the group gil. The lowering of repair costs and an increase in gil value from chests doesn't change the fact that trash mobs offer nothing at all. Zero reason for them to be in the dungeon.

The smart thing would make trash worth killing, either immediately, or at the end of the run. If you kill all the trash and get all the chests, you should be rewarded with bonus Tomes. Instead of really fixing the speedrun issue, they just added more trash. Really lame. Many of you who are saying this is a good change sound like people who regret they weren't able to grind through AK while speedrunning was an option, and most of you probably haven't set foot in there yet...so you don't know what 60 runs would be like. ;p

All the dungeons in this game suffer from poor design ( trash / boss / trash / etc), where the trash mobs offer nothing at all to the party. Its just lazy.

Maybe people will actually run Wanderer's Palace now.

Nope. After people cap out on their 300 high end tomes they wont go here for a break in the monotony because it probably nets you .0000000001 less welfare tomes per day. Therefore its fucking garbage and how dare SE force me to only run AK all day.

I think every time the server was taken offline, it was reset, so yeah...

I'm only seeing three periods of maintenance so far. The latest of which didn't reset the tomes. So that's only 1500, still not enough. The point seems moot anyways considering that they fixed the tome cap reset and the method of farming them.

Spiritbond yo.

And there's no need to grind out 60 runs to get into darklight NOW NOW NOW. You don't need full darklight for hardmode primals/completing your Relic quest.

Coil is a different matter, but there's only a handful of people tackling that now as it is.

Remember also that Crystal Tower was supposed to be release, and would have been part of the gear/content gap between tomestone grinding, primals, and Coil. Once it's out the progression as a fresh 50 should be a bit smoother.

That was me. Don't worry to much about lag, I say. I forgive you. It's an (annoying) part of the mmo experience I think. and part of te reason landslide is so annoying - i swear a couple of times i moved well clear sideways but still got hit. The offline (red wavelength) symbol did appear on your health bar at one stage though. Did your send/receive drop to 0?

Here's the thing: Darklight gear isn't the end goal. It's a requirement to get to the endgame content where the "EPIC LOOTS" are attained. Right now, we're being faced with a horribly tedious grind just to even QUALIFY for the true endgame content. The interesting and challenging fights. THAT'S the part we want to enjoy. Not the same boring dungeon over and over again.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

Other ideas for giving players reason to grind on trash:

Allow players to bank XP... which will allow them to spend it on

1. Paragon system - similar to Diablo 3... or actually, more like the system they had in FF11. Extra points to character stats. This can be an eternal treadmill; allowing players to only buy a certain number of extra points - but allowing players to respec the extra points by... buying new points to overwrite old points.

2. Lvling up the juicy end game gear - use the idea of the spiritbond and take it to the next level - players need to use banked end game XP to unlock the gear and get it to a 'final state'. This can apply to elements like materia as well.

3. Use it to buy fast track rested XP for other jobs/classes/professions. Maybe 25% XP boost.

With these 3 ideas in place, XP will pretty much always be useful for players, and as a result, grinding trash mobs will always be useful for players.

They can work on that too

The community really abused AK, seriously, SE had to re-shift the clusters of sharing servers again for the DF, just because of this problem

MMO's are timesinks, some found shortcuts, SE stopped it, that's all
Always going to be like this, if CM becomes the new speedrun place, they'll change that bitch too

If people already finishing content where even legacy servers haven't hit them, yeah shit is crazy

The difference being WoW's trash rewarded you with more than just 1 gil.

The difference is much bigger than that. WoW's heroic dungeons actually rewarded raid viable gear. That gear grind is further supplemented by other means such as crafting, reputation, BoEs, and token rewards.

I don't disagree that speedruns were a slap in the face to encounter design. However, I find the Tome grind far more offensive; especially in a game that celebrates an accelerated level up experience and encourages people to bring up alts and gear them as well.

Thanks for the reply.

I see where I made my mistake regarding Cid. Gaius mentions "Midas" as his (Cids) father, and I thought that was the name of the Garlean Emperor.

Lol if anybody gives me shit about watching cut scenes in late game content they are in for a very unpleasant Surprise. I will verbally tear them a new one.

is it possible to buy before meteor soundtrack on regular people cd for my car?
Don't think so.

They used bluray because of the large number of tracks. Really weird decision though because I don't use my bluray player for audio. You could always rip the tracks if you have a bluray drive for your PC.

I can find absolutely no way to give SE money so that I may buy a subscription. Entering CC information ends in error, trying Paypal for Crysta ends with SE canceling my order. As far as I know, prepaid cards do not work for NA accounts.

The errors are 401/601 which SE claims is the fault of your bank or CC provider which is bogus. Everywhere I've read people's cards work at every other merchant but SE and so do mine. I don't know what other options I have since I'm currently in Japan playing on NA account. 5 days left of my time and no word from support.

So 3 periods of huge maintenance's, how about those quick 1-2 hours that were placed in between also, unless we can find out how many resets have really happened, just by going on Ultros, there's a handful of people who have their relic +1 stuff

I mean SF on our server is @
Bahamut's Coil
and their trying to
Part 5
of it

So that alone should tell you where their gear set is to even accomplish that within 2 weeks of this game being released

I would understand if it was a legacy server, but a new server not even 1 month old yet already matching legacy, is kind of fucked up

Probably because Square gave us no other alternative for Myth tomes, but why change something meaningful when they can just put another roadblock in.

Relic+1 only costs 900 Philo and 300 Myth, something you can do in a week. I don't see how it's that fucked up, you'll always have the super hardcore who gun for server firsts right off the bat. Considering the P4 beta and early access it's not surprising. Even without AK speedruns you could get full DL if you put enough time in for a few days.

They need to find alternate ways to disperse tomes. It would be cool if they gave some out for certain fates. My suggestion would be to have one fight in each area that pops up randomly on the hour that if you compete. Upon completion you will earn tomes. The fight would be a more difficult version of a fate where it would take many players to complete it.Maybe just use a normal fate but make the fate a more difficult version. I would suggest putting a low timer on it so that people can hit them all and keep them within an areas level range so if your 50 you wouldn't be able to earn the low end ones.

Example would be the Bentbranch area and seeing how its roughly a 15- 20 level area you would be awarded tomes based on that so say 20 tomes. So low end would get you say 10 tomes for completing it and high end areas like Mor Dhona would get you 50. Award tomes based on level gaps.

1-10 = 10 tomes
10-20 = 20 tomes
20-30 = 30 tomes
30-40 = 40 tomes
40-50 = 50 tomes

I think this would be something good that for low end players could be a viable way to bank a few tomes as they level so that when they complete the story they would have enough tomes to say get a piece or two of Darklight gear in order to move forward.

So, messed up priority then?
cuz the lag issue has been there for how long?
though I'm sure they will get HNM fates fixed by the time Kween Raitoningu blesses eorzea with her presence
REALLY great priority

god I hope they don't nerf castrum
my only source of tomes :<

It was kinda funny a few times, someone would look to be a good ways away from it then suddenly go flying. Healer looked like he was running on a slip n slide.

Sorry I had to leave on yall, had to run an errand.

What exactly did they change to AK to prevent speed runs btw? I would check the forums, but they are barely working for me right now, lol.

Added more trash mobs

After first boss, you can speedrun to second boss... SE trolls... have to beat all mobs from first boss till second boss gate for it to unlock

That is what I've been hearing on mumble

Most are just pissed that their dungeon speedrun fun time is now roadblocked, time and effort will be have to put in!

I am totally ashamed of myself but what exactly are ilevels?

Item levels. In this game it's the item level of your weapon, in other's it's an average of your total gear. It's basically a check to make sure that a person is properly geared for a specific raid or instance.

Mobs are now faster, theres a few more of them particularly around the front of the boss door, and boss doors also don't open until certain ones are killed.
