I know that it needed to be patched but I'm still pretty disappointed. I think if anything this makes it worse for people who were not able to speed run and get the pieces they needed. The elitists will still be around and because it will take that much longer to gear up now people will find it harder to get into groups with these assholes.Must admit that I'm sort of happy that speed running AK is now impossible.
As someone that never bothered trying it, it seems broken and completely destroyed the endgame. People really shouldn't be able to get some of the best armor in the game a couple of weeks after launch. It needs to be a goal you slowly progress towards.
Additionally, it might cut down some of the gear elitism at the endgame since you can no longer spend a day or two running AK to get most if not all of the Darklight armor.

I understand not allowing you into the bosses room prior to killing all the trash but adding more trash wasn't needed.

Boo was in wanderers palace with a well mannered group when maintenance was called. Had to leave after a wipe on the goo boss as we had 9 mins before maintenance. Oh well, atleast I got a look at the mechanics of the first two fights. According to the tank the trash is a lot more annoying now. The big guys wander around and can't be targeted. Not sure what it was like before as that was my first run.
Hopefully this change makes it so people will get their 300 high end tomes in AK through the week, and then do other dungeons for the low end tomes. If you can put together a full party and 8 FC members can all get the lower end tomes quickly in Caestrum then that would be more beneficial to everyone. Nobody getting bitched at for watching cut scenes in a DF or having to deal with unpleasant people.
Yup I wish dps would try to get their weapon from that place before going into ifrit honestly it's not hard at all. Ifrit's not hard, but when there is no BLM/SMN everyone needs decent weapons. We just finished the tonberry king bout 10 minutes ago! Was able to grab the Darklight Baghnakhs
You never bothered trying it, so you're happy that it was ruined for those that were.
OK.
Why would they have to try something so ridiculous to know it is shit. Did you really want to run from boss to boss cheesing everything in this game forever? I think they need to tweak their solution but now these dungeons are like every dungeon in most MMOs. I played wow for like 6 years and there was never more than the odd grumble about trash in dungeons and mostly during cata. Here its the end of the world to have trash.
Running Caestrum/Praetorium is horrible though with all those cutscenes that aren't skipped.
They should just make trash worthwhile, not this.
Details of all the server changes:
I'm worried that now that Duty Finder has been split into three groups, waiting as a dps class/job will be even longer.

Nice, just logged in time for emergency maintenance.
Nooo, emergency maintenance.![]()

The difference being WoW's trash rewarded you with more than just 1 gil.
I'm ok with making endgame gear take time to get, but they could at least give us some more variety here. AK is literally the only viable place to grind for mythology tomes, and even if Castrum is slightly better for philosophy it's still a massive boring grind.I have no problem with full darklight taking a few weeks to get. This content needs to last until December (2.1). If people see everything within the first 30 days what reason do they have to subscribe?
To be fair, this isn't some highly abstract brain straining scenario we're talking about, especially if you've played MMOs before. Participation is not require for comprehension. I'm sure people are fully capable of visualizing the scenario and running it through in their head. You never bothered trying it, so you're happy that it was ruined for those that were.
OK.
I'd be happy if each trash mob rewarded you with 50 GC seals or something.
SOMETHING would be better than nothing.
Hah, as much as I hate speed running I thought the same thing when I read the patch notes. This is exactly the same SE from FFXI. Complete disconnect between the developers and the player community.
I honestly can't believe they had the gall to add even MORE trash to Amdapor. Clearly the players were not happy with the farming grind. They could have AT LEAST met us halfway and said, "okay, you can't speed run through everything, but we hear you and have reduced some of the amount of trash in dungeons". Instead, they even go so far as to pretty much give us all the finger for trying to circumvent their will like we're some kids who need to be punished for misbehaving. This is exactly the same SE from FFXI. Complete disconnect between the developers and the player community.

I do have to agree with others saying that adding more trash to AK feels slightly misguided, despite my stance on speed running. They either need to add a small reward to level 50 trash or at least keep it at acceptable levels.
As things are, all the extra trash in AK really does is slow down the people who didn't take part in the exploit, further widening the gear gap between the two groups.
I think SE probably took the policy of writing off those who did manage to get through the gap as a mistake and plugging it as firmly as possible by adding more trash mobs.
Not at all. If SE saw it as enough of an exploit to patch it out this quickly, clearly it wasn't working as intended. I watched some videos on how to do it out of interest and frankly, it had the words "patched out" written all over it. I can understand wanting to get good gear quickly and efficiently as much as the next person, but the way that it worked was fundamentally taking advantage of the AI mechanics of the game in order to skip large parts of a dungeon which is supposed to take a long time.
As a person who wants good gear fast, I'm pissed since the removal of it is going to slow me down and the people that managed to get in fast will have that advantage over me, but as a person who enjoys this game, I can see it is for the better. Besides, there's a lack on endgame content at the minute for obvious reasons so I see no need to rush it.
If people get sick of grinding, they should either not bother with the endgame (or possibly all of) of an MMO since that's pretty much all it is most of the time, or they should take breaks from the grind to explore other parts of the games such as different classes or crafting and gathering.
Regardless, AK speedruns were broken and yes, I'm glad they're gone. I hope people enjoyed them while they were around, but I could see some issues with gear elitism and endgame time investment/reward ratio already starting to arise due to them and that's good for no one.
I mean I personally, even having done it, don't blame them for fixing it. People shouldn't complain about an exploit being fixed. What they SHOULD be complaining about is the content that is so tedious that people feel the need to exploit it.Coming from someone who never really got the chance to speedrun anything (nor did not have much of a desire to rush to the endgame), this is how things look to me. It's one thing to fix an exploit, but given how much I have heard about how the heads are notorious for disliking speed runs, it seems like they are just punishing players for playing outside of their perceived script (such as adding more trash still with absolutely little reward) by making things more tedious rather than trying to implement an actual solution.
Regarding the speedruns being "fixed"... As it is often said, for a lot of people MMORPGs are all about the path of least resistance it seems. SE fixing an exploit which was clearly not intended is not surprising, in fact it is expected. But because people always want to GET ALL THE STUFF GET IT QUICK, they are willing to cheat to get there and thus are upset when such cheating is removed.
Sometimes I wonder why these people play the games at all... if all they want is to essentially be done with the content as quick as possible, skipping all the cutscenes and dialogue... what is the point of playing at all? I guess a game about clicking on different colored boxes and watching bars fill up without any story or graphics would do just as well. If it had EPIC LOOT.

What else should give tomes? lvl 50 Fates? lvl 50 gathering? lvl 50 crafting?

Who the fuck cares if people can get all their darklight in a week? It's not even the endgame gear. It's just preliminary gear. AF2 still takes 12 weeks to get per job. That's enough of a cockblock to keep the hardcore subbed until the next update... unless you aren't planning on updating for half a year or something.
There are already quite a few nonlegecy players in full AF+1 with relic+1.
Modern mmo players are locusts. Pure and simple.

Here's the thing: Darklight gear isn't the end goal. It's a requirement to get to the endgame content where the "EPIC LOOTS" are attained. Right now, we're being faced with a horribly tedious grind just to even QUALIFY for the true endgame content. The interesting and challenging fights. THAT'S the part we want to enjoy. Not the same boring dungeon over and over again.Regarding the speedruns being "fixed"... As it is often said, for a lot of people MMORPGs are all about the path of least resistance it seems. Maybe people will actually run Wanderer's Palace now.
Not possible, the 300 mythos a week is a hard cap on how fast progress can be acquired on that end. It takes 3? resets for each relic +1 and 12 more for each full suit of AF2. There's no circumventing that, aside from that one maint that accidentally reset the points. Since this one didn't, I'm assuming it's not happening. There are already quite a few nonlegecy players in full AF+1 with relic+1.

Why? There's still only one place that gives Myth tomes.
Great leaps in logic you got there. There are certainly people out there like you describe, but not every one who did speed runs did so to finish the game as fast possible. They did it to actually move onto new content as fast as possible, to experience the rest of the game. Rerunning AK or Castrum 50+ times before getting geared enough to move onto HM Titan or Coil is not fun.Regarding the speedruns being "fixed"...
