“Then we did upscaled, specific development for next-gen, so the character models are four times higher textures and polygons than the normal ones.”

Small write-up on the Playstation Blog:
Some of the highlights include our use of real Beaufort scale waves for a realistic ocean and the new sea engine, which follows real world physics. Complex shaders work to give the ocean that translucent appearance.

Each raindrop is an individually lit object, puddles accurately mirror the world around them and volumetric fog accepts and reflects light from different sources. Dynamic Navmeshes (three dimensional objects you can run around on) ensure that you can jump from one ship to another without encountering weird collision issues, and can seamlessly interact between two ships involved in a boarding action.

We can use the power of next-gen processors to generate thousands of three dimensional plants that realistically react to the weather around them, as well as their interaction with Edward (perfect for judging his location during stealth gameplay).

Based on the few examples of the great improvements we’ve shared with you today, you can expect that we are dedicated to bringing a more immersive experience than ever to Black Flag.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag will be available as a launch title for PS4.

I like that their volumetric fog accepts color informatino from local lights. Looks readlly natural.

Also, their vegetaton bending looked great when the assassin was moving under the brush.

The video also shows that some of the new graphical fidelity really has to be pointed out. I can tell how much better the next version looks but other people might not really be able to tell how much better it actually looks.

the boarding system, the lighting, foliage, rain, sea, who could have tought we would get a proper pirate game from Assassins Creed?

Looks Delicious.

Crossgen is gonna hold shit back. The larger open worlds with greater density of enemies with better lighting and physics. We're not getting that with games like this until they're built from the ground up with next gen specs as the minimum standard.

Current gen isn't holding anything back. We are just getting a next port of a current gen games. There is no way developers can create full next gen games in the little time they have had with the final hardware.

Only a certain few get to work side by side withe platform holders to create games that still only show off a certain aspects of what the consoles can do.

Is that running on PS4 devkits? or is that a PC version? I know it's on the PS channel but ... damn, that looks gorgeous. I really hope Watch Dogs looks as good.

Thank you for posting fellow GAFfer.

Looking really good, but I guess I won't get it day one. So many choices, such a tiny wallet. Oh well.

"Remember ac3, remember ac3. don't fall for it, remember ac3"

It looks so good though

And it looks like an actual God damn pirate game

I'm on board

One could say I've jumped ship

Boat pun.

AC3 was my favorite in the series. People bitched about the long time it takes to get to Connor, but that was actually cool.

Should've shown current gen to compare.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Also why do I have the feeling it looks much better in that video than it's actually going to on PS4? Ubi just puts that instant doubt in me I guess after seeing what they did with Far Cry 3 and Watch Dogs.

Is this the first game to actually have Pirates of the Caribean ship boarding that wasn't like a minigame or something? Looks like so much fun. Just gonna blast the Pirates of the Caribean soundtrack the whole time I play haha

Wow, looks great. Can't wait to play this and see what they do when they get rid of the PS3/360 versions down the line and focus on next gen.
