Assassin’s Creed IV on PS4/XB1/PC: Ubisoft details the next-gen differences

Is AC3 really that bad? I'm getting close to being caught up and I hear a lot of people have issues with AC3.

I played on the 360 (in retrospect should have gotten the PC version) and I think the hardware just limited it for what it could have been. The story wasn't executed well and hunting and such was all QTE stuff. After playing RDR and actually having to fight off animals, QTE wolves/bears didn't really do it for me.

While AC is touted as the game that 'plays itself' it's the exploration and sense of heights you get that make it great, with AC3 it was mostly wilderness so you never really got that.

OK game, bad story (IMO) with too many side missions that weren't that exciting.

Sailing was really fun though.

Yes, it's that bad. The good thing is we'll have plenty of impressions on the current gen game before PS4 hits. That's how I'm planning to make the decision on this.

It's a good game that should have been much better. Is/was a glitchy mess in a way I haven't seen in many games too. Some were game-breaking though I finished getting the Platinum Trophy last week without issue.

I think ambition caught the devs out and they underestimated the task of making a brand new game (as opposed to AC2-1 (Brotherhood) and AC2-2 (Revelations) being follow-ups to a great foundation in AC2).

It introduced some fantastic elements in the series too but had a very dull main character. Edward already looks miles better and we haven't even seen much from him.

AC4 looks far more tidier and impressive, personally.

YES.

The only things i liked:

The adolescence years of Connor (a couple of hours of gameplay, tops) are cool.
The graphics and the wilderness are stunning.
The snow is awesome.

Everything else was one of the worst gaming experience i've had this gen.

When I see stuff like this I find it's compelling evidence to support the fact that PS360's has held back PC gaming for a long long time.

I welcome the new HD twins and the advancements in game engines that will get transferred to PC's.

No, actually it's a great game. It has a lot of variety in story missions, great characters which are smartly written. Interesting story, amazing soundtrack and best parkour/fighting system in the series.

This. Barring Connor of course. The Templar side was fantastically done. Charles and Haytham were my favourite characters in the game.

That video doesn't state ANY console.

I'd argue its for all next-gen as ubi is likely using a similar engine for all due to similar base items like gpgpu etc.

Of course is going to scale depending on raw power, but many of the effects should be there across all three. Likely XB1/PS4 will be almost identical with WiiU lacking in some areas but gaining some gameplay uniqueness from the gamepad.

I was thinking about upgrading my GPU from a 560ti, specifically for BF4 (and I was most likely going to). This solidified the purchase of a 760/770 though. UH-MAZING!

The foliage stuff is easily the best. So awesome.

Looks good, but it seems i cant enjoy AC, waiting for reviews to know if the gameplay has been improved too.... sadly i have little hope on that.

Those plants are phenomenal.. godamn.. want so much. I have the game pre ordered but i seriously doubt its going to look so good. If it is i am laughing at diminishing returns.

And YES, AC3 is horrible. The only portion I liked was playing as Haytham in the very beginning. Once that ends the game turns to utter shit like Cinderella's gown at the stroke of midnight.

I don't think anyone with a modern computer is dumb enough to put any less than a terabyte of storage in it.

I've got a terabyte and it is getting very close to being full. How many GBs are we talking for this do you think? Does anyone know? It's gotta be way over 30 if games without 4K assets are pushing that already.

and Browne notes the obvious performance improvements: current-gen SKUs will be 30FPS, while the Xbox One and PS4 versions will be 60FPS “at a much higher resolution”.

Seems we're getting 60fps on next gen after all.

Can't wait to play this on a 4K 30" monitor at 60fps. It's going to be unreal.
What kind of PC you running?

I had to drop a few settings in AC3 to get 60 fps at 1080p on a 680. Ac4 looks quite a bit more demanding.

Of course, maybe they've massively improved the engine since last year.

It's probably going to be over 30gb and they'll probably give you an option to download 4K assets to bring down the file size for those who have no need for it.

I'm trying not to get hyped for this after the disappointment of AC3, but this keeps looking better and better the more I see it.

Whoa, a lot of replies quick damn... Well, I think I am going to have to still play it because I am kinda hooked on the whole AC storyline but man there seems to be a lot of disappointment with AC3. At least the Naval battles sound fun though.

I'm planning ahead for SLI Maxwells and hopefully ASUS' new 31.5" 4K monitor will drop at least $500 by then. The damn thing is $3500... which is still pretty cheap for a 4K monitor that does 60HZ, but still a tad bit too pricey for me. Ideally I'd want it to be $2500.

On another note. Are most higher end multiplats coming with 4K assets even though consoles can't run it at that resolution or is this like a rare one-off thing that NVIDIA money hatted for PCs?

Very good shaders here, especially rain shaders looked great, but scene on ocean with water going through the ship looked great too, even though precision isnt probably as high as in BF 4 footage.
Outstanding FFT simulation of ocean.
Love that almost every engine supports lit based particles now, it really adds to the scene.
Speed of vegetation physics and animations was great too, actually love precision of their animation, looks similar to Dead Light in that department.
