well you kind of need to do that to do end game stuff

clearing sub 50 dungeons for gear is mostly for vanity

also amdapor gives greens in every chest while everything else only gives you one green at the last chest

Brayflox gives you greens in every chest except the first one.

Think it was the last one in Miami. Still debating what to do with the PS3 code, will probably use it if only to be bale to play this on my Vita next year. I play on my TV with my PC anyway, but I needed the swag, and that cover is AMAZING. Art book is nice too.

And to make my FFXIV day better this came in the mail:

Damn, it is such as shame that so much of this soundtrack will likely be forgotten. I was surprised at how much of this OST is still in use though. I still wish Ul'Dah's theme was this one, it is SO good.

More specifics on what you need would be helpful.

Basically, im a level 10 GLD and really just doing missions for people who have them but I have no clue what else I should be doing really?

Like main quests type of stuff

When would be the time to join a linkshell or party group

Different spells or special moves, how are these obtained

Events? What are they for and what do they do

Major battles or enemies that are part of the main story, is it too soon to worry about that?

Basically im asking for some hand holding when it comes down to it, I feel like a complete noob and been out of the loop until the beta and this game was actually coming to fruition after all the mess its been thru!

Anyone got any good tips for Garuda hard mode? Me and my friend have been trying for the last 24 hours to get her down and every time it ends in failure. :(

Doing DF? I'd say try and get a group together on your sever, that way you can actually work on it instead of having one person leave and having to start fresh again.

is dungeon farming really so big a deal sub 50? I went ahead and got ARM to 45 before level 23 and HQ gear looks competitive, if not better, and much easier to acquire than a lot of that stuff.

Nope. HQ gear is easily fine all the way up until 50. Even the i55 gear, especially HQ'd and a few materia, provides a fairly nice alternative to AF and does well until you get to the i70 stuff like Darklight or the i70 crafted stuff.

I'm having trouble finding a digital download link for this game.
I already have the game from the 1.0 days, I just don't know where to download the latest client to start playing.

i just completed this today for the first time. basically it's the same until tornadoes, she will tele N then C then E then C, just be ready to los and stay away from rocks otherwise. Stack behind the same pillar for middle phase for healing, then spread out to a safe location for tornadoes (it's somewhat random where they spawn at the start but they have a specific order after i think, not 100% sure though). The tank takes the one and i am not sure if the other tank picks up another clone or not (ours did?) to pull it away while DPS murder the 3rd one in their group, then after both clones die the main tank starts to kite the real garuda while everyone else stays close behind him to keep ahead of tornadoes. There is fairly heavy damage while the clones are up but that is the worst part imo, get past that and the rest seems pretty easy

Eye phase actually seemed easier to me since she doesn't seem to tele > oneshot half the room, but she still cleaves and does some pretty heavy aoe. I actually don't remember much about this phase, and after the eye disappears it's back to tornado rinse/repeat. She should die in that second tornado phase.

Do you mean reckoning? You don't need to hide behind the rocks for that, it doesn't do anything. Usually best just to regroup on the west side in anticipation of the tornadoes. Tank should be at the NW corner the rest should be on the west side. Separate yourself as far from Garuda as possible so you don't get hit with slipstream. Want the OT to tank the adds over west too so they're on opposite sides and you aren't AoE'd to death. Got a few Garuda kills in tonight for some gaffers.

Anyone got any good tips for Garuda hard mode? Me and my friend have been trying for the last 24 hours to get her down and every time it ends in failure. :(

Assuming you've got the first phase down:

Stack up in the northwest corner. Have the main tank pull Garuda up against the edge of the map away from the ranged dps/healers. Offtank smacks her from behind for a bit.

The instant she disappears, offtank should be as close to the tornados and as far from the ranged/healer pile as possible. The two adds will spawn (the name/color relationship is random, so just look for the lines connecting them to Garuda), one will have a green healing line to Garuda, one a red damage buffing line. Offtank grabs the red damage add, main tank picks Garuda back up, DPS take the green add and burn her down asap.

If either or both adds survive, beyond healing and buffing Garuda, they'll eventually do a raidwide aoe and that's usually a wipe, so they need to die fast.

It's important that the offtank picks up the red add and keeps it away from the ranged pack immediately. Healers need to watch their aoe spam, a badly timed Medica II is guaranteed to get the adds attention, which is fine for the green one, but you don't want the red one aoeing the pack also.

Both adds have weaker versions of Garudas 360 aoe and her frontal (and dodgable) Slipstream cone stun. Ideally you want all three spread out so there's no 360 overlap on anyone, and only one Slipstream facing any target at once.

After the adds are down, the kiting starts. The tornados will begin to rotate around the arena. Main tank needs to pull Garuda around the arena clockwise. Be careful that no one else gets in front of her, she'll stop to attack occasionally and you don't want the raid eating Slipstream. Just stay in front of the tornados, as long as the tank moves fast, she'll be well ahead of the raid.

Plumes will spawn during this kiting - the only one you need to worry about is the Satin Plume. Locate and kill it asap, if left alive it will cast sleep and likely cause a wipe. The other plumes here aren't a big deal, they'll explode for minor aoe damage.

At the end of the kiting, Garuda will create the calm in the center of the map with the tornado all around the edges. Move in, tank pulls her to one edge, ranged/healers stack up on a corner, offtank takes the other corner. Her buddies will spawn again. Same deal here - offtank picks up red line add, dps burn down green add. Be sure to hug the edges of the calm, you don't want Garudas 360 hitting everyone, or having the adds 360s stack up either.

After this, you'll get one more Tornado rotation phase - be sure to drag her into the southwest corner from the center, because you'll be continuing around the arena clockwise kiting her until you end up right back where you started in the northwest corner where the Tornados will stop and you'll get her adds again.

That's it, the pattern will repeat from there, as long as your offtank gets the red add off the party quickly and your dps are on point and burn down the adds fast, it's just a matter of avoiding tornados/not stepping in front of Garuda.

So, in short form

  • Tank her in northwest corner
  • Offtank picks up red add. DPS burns green add, then red.
  • Kite Garuda clockwise. Don't stand in front of her, don't stand in tornados, kill Satin Plume
  • Spread out in a triangle in center of storm. Repeat split and kill on her adds.
  • Move to SW for another Tornado kiting phase, moving clockwise to NW corner
  • Repeat until dead

The fight isn't as bad as it seems at first, the phases are all very discrete and telegraphed, but it's complex enough that trying to do it with random pug DFs who don't know the fight or are badly undergeared is likely to be a wipefest.

I finally got a spot in the GAF FC! Thanks for the invite.

I can now go and have the dinner I neglected earlier to ensure my invite [and didn't miss them]. :)

I applied awhile ago but never got an invite to the LS.

I searched for your character just now but didn't find you online. Send one of the officers a tell when you get on.

I'm in the Link Shell and registered on the website.

Is there a specific time I should log in? I'm trying to plan dinner around it. ~_~

I'll be on for at least another 4-6 hours.

Neat. I'm in the linkshell, will ask for a guild invite tonight :)

I'll try to shoot you an invite when I see you pop online. If not, just send one of us a tell or say something in the LS chat.

Some of the gear sets are really awesome.

I like how people are like "Grinding dungeons for gear no way!" but end game "LETS GRIND A DUNGEON FOR GEAR".

LOL! Yeah, this is why I'm taking my time with the dungeons. I didn't even know there were sets in Halatali and Toto-Rak. People are going to be sorry when Vanity Slots come out.

Is there a way to refresh unable to load NA/eu server list, without exiting the game or logging into a jpn server?

how can the game still have login issues still :/

Okay so there are a few bad habits that people tend to do that make this fight harder than necessary. Most have been said in the previous posts, but one thing that can't be said enough and everyone new to the fight does this

When Garuda does her teleport and wind attack, don't hug the rocks, if people are standing next to them, they will take extra damage and get destroyed, it's a world of difference when a group just gets out of the line of sight from Garuda and doesn't hug the rocks. On one occasion we had all 12 rocks standing during Reckoning, the damage on the group was minimal.

Mira is this you? Saw you on mumble during titan with Cyn, but wasn't sure who you were :3

issue i have is, i have a hard time figuring out which gaffer is which random anime character name.

why join a gaf guild when your in game name isn't remotely similar to your gaf handle ?.?

i know in other mmos you have a 'status' text box in the guild list that you can paste your gaf name or w/e there so people can figure out who is what.

You can always ask the person who they are on GAF. I didn't use Lain for my character because I'd have to find a last name that pleased me, while splitting up Leamonde works great and I love Leamonde (since Vagrant Story is one of the best games ever made).

Mira? No, Vero, yes.

I realize a lot of people are getting into the GAF FC finally, so I hope this post isn't in bad taste! I also don't mean this to in any way be an advertisement for my FC. I just saw that a lot of people are struggling with being in a really large guild, some even said they preferred something smaller/tight knit.

Anyway, me and my buddy have carried over our LS/FC from FFXI which was made mostly of a small handful (10-20) PVPers that were also into dedicated endgame content. We specialized in low manning end game content and we did it pretty well. We were all very good players.

So I dunno, there are small FCs out there like ours, but I imagine they're hard to find as we/they don't shout or post on forums. But we're definitely looking for more people so we can actually start progressing through content when it releases.
