man, some of you get pissy about some really minute things

QUOTING IMAGES FOR SIZE HOLY SHIT STOP DOING THAT

eh, i read your post, but i'm gonna keep doing it. no, the auto-resizing isnt cutting it on chrome & other browsers ive used; if people put up huge pics (from emulators/etc) they're massive and need to be quoted down.

When people condemn a entire country/state/city, due to a heinous crime having been committed there.

/annoyed Florida resident ;P

the whole G,A,F? thing can die out, really...but yeah, any state where anything happened involving my home state's nearly 20 million people (and a very forthcoming local media in comparison to elsewhere) and its LOLOL BUGS BUNNY SAW.GIF time, because its hilarious and somehow makes sense

"First post nails it" has already been mentioned, but I'm gonna mention this specific moment:

There was a thread about how The Last Of Us was surprisingly popular in Japan. The first post was

The first ten pages after that were filled with "dat first post!", "you sir, win the the internet for today!", "#dead" and other inane shit like this.

I mean, the premise of the thread was pretty interesting, but instead we got pages and pages of filler congratulating a poster to his "HAHA JAPANESE MEN ARE PERVERTS amirite?" racist bullshit. This made me quit GAF for the day because it irritated me so much.

It really has lost its meaning since people just spam it regardless of how accurate/funny the post is and these days it's forced much of the time

...and we had a thread recently where somebody seriously tried to argue that since language is always in flux, "I could care less" means the same as "couldn't care less" because so many people use it that way and that we should stop being such grammar nazis.

Kind of true, though

Quoting someone who posted after you (by editing your existing post). This is confusing as hell.

I want to say, "this", but it's forbidden. So, THAT^

Gaming side is guilty of far too much casual racism. Many there still seem to think that tarking rike dis whenever referring to anyone Japanese is hilarious. One recent thread had a racist slur on its first page and the poster had this pointed out by a grand total of one person. No ban or anything.

The first few pages of a thread containing nothing but attempts to be witty with a first post, and the following pages all saying 'first post nails it'. It's getting tiresome.

I see a guy who always posts like that. I often wonder if that's intentional or maybe it's something with his phone or something.
I sometimes post like that, but only if I edit something after the fact. I post from my galaxy nexus and sometimes it does not like to line up.

As for what annoys me, people that use the title line when posting.

"If this hasn't changed: Teknopathetic's refusal to use the quote function. C'mon man!"

this way of replying is so baller though

And Cumberbatch didn't ruin Star Trek. Alice Eve did because WOW no one was asking for that

You know something you're right. I guess cucumber isn't too blame. You truly are a detective my fine equine sleuth!

Now can you aid Angela landsbury on the case of the stolen pimento spread recipe?

Another thing that annoys me, overuse of the word bomba. I don't even know where it come from but damn if everyone is going to use it in the box office thread. Half the time they don't even use it right.

People that put words in your mouth and counter reply to something you never actually said in order to "pwn" your argument (which you never made).

It happens constantly

Not sure why the affirmations bother people. Sometimes that's all that's needed.
It usually doesn't add anything to a conversation.

But it sure feels sooooooooo good if someone does it to your post.

Also can't be said enough: memes. Always memes.

As a good example, 80% of the first page in any Nintendo thread is always "please understand." 23 pages later, when actual discussion is taking place, there'll always be some amateur Oscar Wilde seeing the thread for the first time doing a drive by posting to flex their internet wit

There a few things that annoy me, I guess you could call them forum pet peeves:

1. Thread whining/bitching. It really doesn't contribute anything to a thread topic and tends to derail discussions at hand when that whining post is quoted about 10 different times.

2. (mostly gaming side) Claiming that GAF as a whole is biased for and everybody on GAF loves a certain company and then proceeding to cry and complain about why some people on here don't like their own favorite, different company more

Yeah, they can both sort of go hand in hand with each other.

The only thing that is obnoxious is when people use gifs out of context. Other than that, nothing bothers me.

Edit.

Oh. People who censor their words. F**k, sh*t, ect. Just write it. It's silly

People who use "welp," or quote "welp" or for any damn reason use that crap.
For some reason I want to punch them. Perfectly logical response.

EDIT: Now I need to punch myself after seeing my post.

Pre-quoting. Whatever people write in their posts that people may complain about, pre-quoting goes beyond that and breaks the flow of the thread itself.

The first page of every news story being filled with puns that would make Joel Schumaker cringe. I'm surprised the mods don't get more pissed at it.
I was pissed, but look what happened. :(

The OP who just disappears from the thread. Just leaves the whole thread hanging while everybody is asking questions. Not like they stopped posting on the forum either.

Especially when they don't give all the best details in the first post. Cultivate your thread!

Also i was guilty of doing 'would of' but i'm stupid so let me off.

Announcements of announcements. It happens all the time and every time I realise I'm reading one of those threads I feel like an idiot. There's just no value in them other than guessing what game they're going to announce, basically the worst kind of list thread.

Also when a new mobile game is announced from a popular IP and the thread creator pretends to be excited and doesn't put what platform it's on in the title.

I'm not a very technical minded person but especially recently with all the tech threads about next gen it's all really interesting. I adore the posters that explain everything in laymens terms but having to read post after post of obscure dragon ball references got tiresome really quick

I don't like my tag either but I'm not sure I can do anything about that

some of the slang, particularly really forced use of new slang, is sort of irksome, but I can deal.

I guess my biggest one would be the predilection for posting multimegabyte GIFs of some assclown smirking or some lady tossing her hair, or some other tiny affect that says nothing but ate a bunch of bandwidth. So basically PopGaf. I don't get it. Most of the time I don't even know what they are trying to communicate. Every so often there's a pretty appropriate reaction GIF but most of the time, it just says to me I CANNOT WRITE, SO... HERE.GIF

Close 2nd place (I'm sure it's been mentioned) would be that guy who quotes a gigantic post and then types something like "No." Quite literally the least they could do.

I rarely see it on our sophisticated forum here, but I'm with the guy who said he hates it when people use the ellipsis as their only form of punctuation.

i dunno... i kinda liked that game... i think u just didn't get it... but i dunno lol...

Not only does it make you look like an idiot, it makes you look like an egotistical idiot, as though I would love nothing more than to read all your thoughts in their original stream-of-consciousness format, unpolluted by proper editing and proofreading. Because every banal idea that seeps forth from your brain is just so precious.

Because:

A. The forum resizes images by default to fit the size of your window.
B. Quoting an image makes images too small, especially bad if it has text. So you click it, but then it becomes really big, often making it very hard to view on a vertical monitor because it tends to extend past the boundaries of your monitor and unfortunately doesn't activate the horizontal scroll bar either, so you're fucked. At least with a non-quoted image it's a decent, legible size from the start.

The forum by default resizes images and does a really good job at doing so. Please understand.

If I was still a mod I would probably go around unquoting images all over the forum like an OCD madman.
Then somebody did a horrible job making this feature known, because for the longest time this was NOT the case outside the mobile version. Individual postbits had a minimum width according to the size of the browser window, but could stretch out when given large content.

Even then, sometimes screenwide is still too intrusive.

I'm guessing the announcement was buried in some big thread, because I had no idea it was a thing until it was posted about in here

Another one:

Poster A: "lol I can't believe some people actually think x"
Poster B: "lol I can't believe some people actually think y"
Poster A: "^lol Oh my...can't stop laughing at this"
Poster B: "It is I who is laughing most, because it is just so hilarious that you think y"
Me: "I doubt either of you are laughing and this isn't an argument"

When people sign their name after their posts. It's a forum, not a letter. I can see your username right next to the post.

People saying "with that said.." Or "that said.." It drives me insane how much it is used on this forum.

We know you said it, you don't tave to point it out--and it doesn't make you sound any smarter.
Either it was misused in every case you saw it, or you simply missed the point of it. It's not about pointing out what you said, it's a qualifier, most often for a potentially contradictory statement to one you made previously.

For example, "I really do not like fighting games at all. With that said, I think they're well made and I understand why others like them." It qualifies the second sentence to make it less confusing following the first. It's useful in discussions for conceding a point.

You may not like it, but it's totally legit for discussions, and arguably proper to use.

I'm guessing the announcement was buried in some big thread, because I had no idea it was a thing until it was posted about in here
In fact, I seem to recall reading that we're supposed to quote big images to resize them. If that was changed and the resizing feature was made standard for all post content then I must have missed it.

I cant stand when people say Gaf cant make up its mind or something like that. Youre interacting with hundreds of different people with different opinions, not Gaf.

I find it annoying when people say "what say you GAF?" and similar comments. It makes you sound like an overly proud 10 year old that just joined an elite club.

"X is the only right answer."

Oh and anyone who even thinks the phrase "Get swole brah." should have their account permanently banned and their brain taken away by social services.

Hyperbole. GTFO with that shit. Some people only seem to know the words godtier and trash to qualify stuff, nothing in between. Christ.
