Yes, we DO need more Pokemon threads.

Here is the eBay listing. Let's just say the asking price is a bit... much.

Here's the Bulbapedia entry on the card. Basically only six were printed in the entire world, and four of them have been sold for up to $20,000. One was sold in July for $10,000.

Seems like you can't bid on it, only pay the asking price which is pretty ridiculous. He could easily make a couple thousand if he put a reasonable (being very liberal with the word here) price.

So uh, share other rare video game stuff that you know about.

I remember back when people were going crazy over that one Charizard card and paying ridiculous amounts for it.

not $20,000 levels of ridiculous but still a lot

Pfft, that's not a Charizard.

Eeeexactly. Not a 1st edition holographic Charizard? Then I don't give a fuuuuuck

However it is neat that these are still popular, and stuff like this still sells. Pokemon cards are awesome. I remember the one that had the manji on it which everybody flipped out about because they thought it was the swastika :p

Is it that expensive just because it's extremely rare or is it actually a really powerful card? You know, for use in the trading card game.

Reminds me of Magic: The Gathering's Black Lotus.

From the card text, it looks like it does absolutely nothing. I suppose you could put it in your deck and play it, but it's basically just saying "Congratulations on drawing something awesome for the contest."

I remember my mom complaining that I was spending ridiculous amounts of money on "pieces of paper".

I think I would agree with her in this situation...

Lame as fuck.

The only cool things about extremely rare TCG cards, is when you can whip them out at a random tourney and go "Yeah, this card is worth 10 grand, come at me bro."

You can also make an offer for it, and then he'll take the best offer. He's already got 633 offers.

I'm sure 99% of those offers are total joke offers but I'm sure there's a few serious ones peppered in there.

I sold this for 50 euros when I was a teen. I thought I would get around few euros so the next morning when the bids were in I was ecstatic.

People still play with Pokemon cards?

Yes. People also still play Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Lame as fuck.

Then they come at you and you lose 10 grand and have a broken nose.

So what does the card..actually do. Kind of seems like a lame card, to be the rarest card of all time.

Hell, stuff like Baseball cards are valued only on their rarity. A T206 Honus Wagner is worth millions and does nothing.

I want to see some wealthy asshole buy this and tear it up on YouTube.

You know what would be funny.

If the person making the video turned on revenue sharing, and the video got so many hits that it ended up paying for itself.

Yeah that's true. My post was dumb I admit. What a card does in the game doesn't equate to how rare it is. That's always been true for collectibles.

Still curious what it does.

I think I have the E3 '98 stamped Pikachu card in its wrapper still somewhere. That worth anything?

Most tournaments for TCGs are in some sor of Standard format where the most expensive cards are rarely worth more than like $200. Even a Black Lotus, which can only be used in the legacy format, can be had for around $300. For the most part TCGs, at least at an even slightly competitive level, aren't supposed to be limited by people not having access to expensive and rare cards.

Dang, I don't ever remember hearing about this card.

My guess was the birthday pikachu. Wasn't that rare at some point??
