Worse is the game boils down to these stop signs a LOT late in the leveling game, usually once every half or 3/4 of a level you'll hit one and then be forced into grinding FATEs or Leves, and this is where the game kind of falls apart. This morning for example, I'm loving the story, things really picking up, I'm level 46, big rally, and STOP sign saying level 49 to progress. I mean, what is this garbage? I get to grind FATEs and Leves for THREE WHOLE LEVELS?! What the hell year is this again in terms of MMO game development? I've said these things work as nice alternatives, not the entirety of the gameplay for a chunk of your character's "story".

I have come to the conclusion that many of the level 45+ sidequests are missing from the game probably due to them meeting deadlines for launch.

I imagine 2.1 will have a lot of additional sidequest content, but of course by that time it will be a bit late for some players.

The only thing I would suggest is do dungeons for XP, FATES get really dull really fast, as do Leves and there is a lot of running around for those.

I've been kind of bored and stopped playing since lvl40 on my second job, so maybe 2.1 will actually be released before I log back on, I think the game lacks a lot of contents and there are barely anything to do in the non instanced open world, plus there's no level sync outside of fates/dungeons. So yea, I don't really feel like there's anything to do with my friends in a multiplayer centric game. I still do dungeons with them though, but outside of that they need to solo a bunch of shittastic quests and also having to grind.

You know that next awesome boss fight? You need to solo a bunch of shit for 3 levels before we get to do that! Have fun!

You and your friends should try GW2 it's friendly MMO and there's no grind if you don't want to and there's lot of things to do besides dungeons.

Fates can be fun. Wow I feel like this game has tons of content actually :/

I wouldn't mind giving it a try, but most have already set their mind on xiv so I'll see, I have other games to play anyway so no biggie.

They last like 3 seconds because everyone is doing them, they're still boring outside of the big boss fights even when scaled down, at lvl40 I think it's like 350k tnl, it's kind of boring even though they're "quick".

I do find dungeons and story quests fun, it's just that for first timers they need to go through a lot of solo contents to unlock them. For people doing second job, they won't have story quests to grind to reach the minimum levels so it's a lot of fate grinding.

The game really gets disgusting at level 50. Doing the Castrum dungeon for the first time, and 6 of the 8 people leave because the healer was the only one wanting to watch cutscenes. I just don't understand how you can be so easily annoyed by that in a story quest. Fortunately, it only took a couple minutes to get 6 more people and roll through that dungeon.

So I'm about to hit 30 as an arcanist and start working on my second class. I'm torn as to whether or not I should go scholar or summoner though.

I love the play style of arcanist and would prefer to go summoner but I am reading online that their DPS output isn't that great and don't have a good group role? how true is that? I'd rather not heal but if summoner is pointless that is what I'll do.

Any input from summoners on how they fare end game?

In my opinion there are only 2 tiers of dps:

Tier 1
Super broken overpowered bards, most utility(mp regen, silence), most dmg, most mobile (no penalty to avoid aoe), most easy to play (macro all abilities on 1. Key)

Tier 2
All other dps classes about the same, some better at aoe, some better at single, some better at burst, some better at dot.

FYI I am a monk btw.

Tier 2 should be

Ranged DPS: No position reqs, can, for the most part, stand out of AoE safely and not have their DPS affected.

Melee DPS: Flank and back position reqs, get caught in all the AoE, have to break off and run away then start their rotation over.

SMNs have good DPS. They have slight problems with burst, but it's not too bad except in a few rare situations and you can work around that if you know what's coming.

So I heard this game is actually good now, right? Anyone care to tell me some major things that make it special/unique compared to other MMORPG? Or maybe some things that just make it good?

Ok so I'm thinking of taking the plunge since WoW is taking its toll on me. How will this run on my 3820 with a 680 gtx 4gb @ 1080p?

Ya possibly so. But in my opinion some aoe seems targeted at ranged while others is targeted at melee. So the only one who wins is bard because their casting doesn't get canceled.

I think the number of aoe targeted at ranged and melee is pretty balanced for the most part.

well i run it pretty decently with my ghetto gtx 460 so

not really. take the first coil fight. the boss has a 180 degree frontal aoe and a 120 degree tail swipe aoe. for melee we have to stand in a little sliver between the two. he also shoots aoe, which is easy to avoid as ranged, but if you're melee he'll shot it right at the only safe spot you're standing in and you're fucked. the second boss has a huge 360 degree aoe around him and six lines of aoe that shoot out of him ranged has it easy since the gap is much wider further away. melee is sucks, especially when combined with the 360 aoe. not to mention is frontal cone attack and chain lighting. sure, they have to stop casting a spell, but they can resume almost immediately and it's easy for them to dodge. melee has to run all the way out and all the way back in. we have it way harder and it's hardly balanced.

How do you create a free company? I am getting one from Limsa Lominsa. Where do I find the buyer?

Do I need to be a certain level or past a certain quest? I only know I need 15,000G

Setting, SNES/PS FF-style and quality plot, FF fanservice, multiclassing is rewarded with bonus exp and access to your old class's skills rather than penalized with a logout/login combo and fighting with the mail system to gear up.

If you're completely unfamiliar with the series, think of it as kind of like SWTOR in terms of putting prettier visuals and a bit of polish on the WoW format, but with a better endgame at launch and no Lucasarts breathing down their neck to monetize ASAP.

Basic questions:
-I want to see the story content. Will I need frequently raids for that? (think wow pve)
-Is there any PvP, and if - is it any good? What format? Are duels in?
-Do I need PvE to acquire gear for PvP?

Four-man dungeon runs every few levels are mandatory.
PVP is coming, but not in yet. No details on gearing have been announced, but it's likely that you will need or want to gear PVE to compete.

stupid question but how many shards of one kind can you have on you at once? I've been sitting at 100 wind shards for a long time. I guess I need to store these so I'm not missing out on collecting more?

9999. You're not getting more because you only get them through certain crafting missions.

That's what I'd like to know too! Did you update the google docs linked in the OP?

whisper Maple Cookie or Strawberry Shortcake for an invite to the linkshell. It's currently full atm and joining the linkshell means you'll be waiting for a spot to open up

Just got the game from the mail and ....
I've tried from both the game client and website and nothing, looked around and people said keep trying but those threads were all around launch date when they were having server issues.

Trying to progress story + GC rank. Duty finder has been up for Haukke Manor + Dzemael Darkhold for 25+ mins now. Healer class.

Is everyone just doing fates now or...?

Yeah, the only thing I've been doing is doing Leves while the dungeon finder goes since I still have 2x xp, so each mob in a dungeon usually gives me 1-2k exp per. It's just....slow, and enjoyment doing a dungeon is only possible if the group itself isn't bad, which is hit or miss. At least when I grind to 47 a new dungeon will open up, it's just, eh.

I can grind, or I can play SMT 4. I choice like this shouldn't even be on the table in a "healthy" MMO.

Just had three FATEs in the South Shroud, in two of them there were less than 5 people.

My wife did a bunch of level 40-45 fates last night in which there were only a handful of people. It was weird to see, I'm so used to seeing Zerg rushes on fates.

Went ahead and picked this up for PS3. I played the hell out of 11 on PS2. I'll prob start as a conjurer since I like healing. Though I'll be much more casual in my play than back in those days.

Any recommendations for which server I should pick?

I'm gonna have to put my FFXIV on hold until Ultros opens up for new toons. Too bad it was open a few hours ago, stupid slow download :/

So I heard this game is actually good now, right? Anyone care to tell me some major things that make it special/unique compared to other MMORPG? Or maybe some things that just make it good?

The environments, graphics, music and presentation are all great. Combat is standard fare, and not as fun as Tera. There is no meaningful character building- you're going to be the same as every other toon of that class at that level.

Reading this I may tank instead of heal.
Healing is just as hard as tanking, and a good healer is hard to find

The best thing is you can level multiple classes, my main class is pugilist, and my other class was gladiator. Ill probably end up trying the level both of those up along with my crafting classes

I agree, this is whyim leveling gladiator

Tanking is really hard in this game, an theres a lot of bad people that play mmos. Its a dreadful combo

Threat in this game is somewhat dumb, maybe over time Yoshida will continue to follow the WoW model and move from threat towards mitigation :p

Everyone sucks at tanking.
And to think I picked Marauder because I thought it would be a fun easy class. It is my first MMO so I'm learning. Alternatively: All DPS players in this game suck and their actions make life harder for tanks and healers.

It really looks like A Realm Reborn is losing players due to Grand Theft Auto V or people are just focussing on easier FATEs.

Any recommendations for which server I should pick?
Which region?
