I pirated 360 games and MS banned me, what the hell?

Welcome home

Doubt it's anything to do with the Oman thing. It's MS's fuck up. I don't own a 360 but i've downloaded a ton of stuff that Sony has accidently made free and I'm not banned. I can't imagine MS would ban people for their fuck up

If it was marketplace theft on the Oman account, wouldn't they just ban the Oman account? Otherwise, how do they know which other profiles on the Xbox belong to the person that created the fake account?

This is a really good question--OP, did all profiles on your console get banned?

Probably the System ID, MAC address or IP address associated with different region accounts on the same system.

Kind if hoped there would be consequences for taking games like that. Sucks but you played with fire.

why would you want consequences for their screw ups? like they'll go out of business because they're going to miss a few bucks on their fuck up, because you know, they're not a billion dollar company and all.

I'm not familiar with Sony, Nintendo, Valve history. So does Sony, Nintendo, Valve banned as well for similar actions which gamers exploit through their loopholes?

I don't think Sony does it, I have a European and Japanese account on my ps3 and snag free stuff all the time for years.

I have never shared anything! I want and keep my accounts only for myself, for every possible console that i have, and i have every console since ps2, gamecube, xbox era. Portable included.

But it was against the TOS.

So you take away his whole account? All the games you've ever bought? I understand taking away the games he downloaded from Oman but everything hes ever bought and done on your platform?

Incredibly excessive.

I bet it's for another reason or else there would have been mass bannings by now

This. A perm ban is pretty serious business. Not very often they issue a questionable ban IIRC.

If anything, you could always go complain about it on the Xbox.com forums. They have a specific place just for "Why was I banned?". They sometimes provide more incite as to why. And it's a pretty good read, too.

Is it theft if Microsoft makes a game free and people download it?

That's the way Microsoft tend to see it if you're knowingly exploiting a mistake of theirs to get free shit.

I remember there was some sloppy coding in FIFA's Ultimate Team mode where you could buy a pack of virtual cards from the marketplace, and if you yanked your internet connection at the right time, the purchase was cancelled, but you still had the cards. Everyone who took advantage of that that was permabanned.

That narrows down the console, but how would you proceed if there were several XBL profiles on the machine? Ban 'em all, guilt by association?

They banned users for downloading Halo 4 content that wasn't supposed to be available yet last year.

Its a problem with online digital purchases. Customers have no rights. You gave them money in exchange for products yet they can take them away any time they feel like it and can also write the laws...they don't have to answer to anyone.

Can only speak for Valve, but I can't think of any specific exploits that mirror the Oman stuff. Now Ubisoft seem to have a digital fuckup of some kind every month that nets people free games. More often than not they have sucked it up as "their fault" and moved on.

It would be helpful if it listed the content that you're accused of stealing.

This. It's one thing to ban the Oman account and console, quite another to ban the account that had nothing to do with it. Besides, this has happened with other regions without a single ban, why start now? These isoLated cases are probably related to something else.

All of your content is tied to your account and by breaking ToS you lose your account.

Can't wait for that all digital future.

Can't wait till you join majority of people in this thread, and post something relevant.

Yeah it was that DD games that got him. Wasn't the fact that he took advantage of something he wasn't supposed to.

I love how the console ban message is 'we won't tell you why you're banned and there is no recourse.'

The very definition of arbitrary. Just imagine, we almost had a whole console subject to this.

Aren't digital games fun?
Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, or Valve could all easily do this.

Can't wait till you join majority of people in this thread, and post something relevant.

The point there isn't why it happened, it's the fact that it can happen at all.

All those legally bought DD games being taken away as well is BS though

You OWN those

You don't "own" anything digital, you're paying for access to a license - which can obviously be revoked.

Yeah, physical games often have such a disclaimer as well, but obviously they can't just be taken away like this.
